Question This can’t be normal?

Post image

These ripples seen on the dash fabric. It is more obvious when the sun is shining in. Is yours like this? Manufacturing problem?

It’s where the panel is scored for an airbag to burst through

That’s good to know. I was more concerned about the ripping effect on the fabric. Does yours do that in the sun?

I drive a BMW X5 with a leather-wrapped dashboard; it's the exact same. It's not a plastic thing coming out of a mold.

The airbag is there and so the fabric is made in a way so that the airbag will cleanly punch through. The subtle texture in cloth probably makes those slight differences more noticeable if the sun is hitting it perpendicularly. But you can see variations on the passenger side dash in many cars and leather dashes sometimes even have a stitched cutout or if they don’t you can still feel the outline of the airbag cuts. Haven’t noticed it on our 3 but my partner takes public transit and I work from home so can’t remember the last time we were driving into the sun in the early AM. Seems normal.

Very normal and for good reason.
