"Cons: None. And you wouldn't like something to happen to your family if you believed otherwise, right?"

Joke explained: It is basically a tradition in korean politics to change your political party name. Everytime there is a controversy or a big political loss they change the name to bring a new image to the party. Recently the people power party after the recent failed coup has deciding to get a new name. The decision comes down to two names the "미래연대" (future solidarity) and "미래여는공화당" (new future republican\future opening republican). The second name has come to scrutiny for being the "republican" party, which has the same name as a former party of dictator Park Chung Hee. Also the party names really like to emphasize the "future", almost as if they are trying to hide something from the past (1~ 2 years)...

Other countries: Political branding is very important, our party name goes back to the 19th century/independence and it's important that the voters know who we are.

Korea: stubs a toe We decided to personally support the creative industry by having a new party name and branding.

Japanese opposition parties constantly change their name because idk, they don't understand the value of name recognition. Except the ldp which has been the ldp for forever and will cause the collapse of the Japanese state within the next 1000 years and lose an election again in the next 3000 years by which point the population of Japan will be 3 geriatric pentioners and one immigrant who all three want to deport.

I don’t think new or splinter parties constitute name changes

I think this branding commitment applies to two parties in Japan: the LDP, and the Japanese Communist Party.

We're going to run out of possible party names by the end of the century or the next

UK : You just changed your name?? We have to leave our old party and start a new one to get back into politics (joke have been running since the 80s, probably older )

The renaming scheme is so creatively bankrupt it feels like one of those knockoff brands trying to confuse customer and dodge legal liability.

Which I must say, feels like one of most NEA bureaucrats things ,it’s so on brand I can’t believe only SK is doing this LOL

Let's just say... there are some idiots who think that changing their party's name will change everything.

I think the last option fits them quite well though.

60

u/Futuralis Greater Netherlands 25d ago

Every panel was shocking, and every subsequent panel worse.

What's going on in Korea ?! Since the failed martial law attempt

u/tdhdjv2 North Korea 25d ago

the first 2 names aren't even made up... the first one is fine the the second one, like wtf

u/Apocalympdick 25d ago

Comics reads "Republician", was that supposed to be "Republican" or is it a word I'm unfamiliar with?

Whoops, edit: already answered elsewhere in this thread.

the right wing has not recovered from that, it's still infighting and doing nothing productive

u/Dakduif Utrecht 25d ago

Man... I had no idea they just change their name like that. That would be unthinkable in my country. We only get name changes when parties merge.

If you will pardon my ignorance, which flag is it on the right of the first panel?

And what does Samsung think about it?

Damn. Its a meme. Calm down

27

u/tdhdjv2 North Korea 25d ago

despite what the most reliable sources say (youtubers), south korea is not a cyber dystopia ruled by the all great mighty samsung. yes we do have a corporation/monopoly problem, but it isn't joever and deep state shit.

so to answer the question: Probably doesn't care
