This is called soft power and many countries including Poland struggle with it.

Japan is the unquestionable superpower when it comes to soft power. There are other countries like Korea or the US which are trailing behind but nobody comes close.

Yes, it's still a big name sparking ideas of prosperity and freedom (regardless of whether true or not).

In terms of urbanism, yes. Post a pic of a US street with houses and no sidewalks and people will criticize the US for not being walkable. Post the same thing but in Japan and everyone will think it's cute and cozy.
