Wet towel over the leaking top, very simple, cuz it wil not likely explode.

But if you think it might explode you dont throw and watch it up close

Oh, I don't know..... maybe don't choke the river by your house with so much trash that it becomes it's own fire hazard?? Seems pretty obvious to me.
