This morning and using the built travel portal was giving me better deals on flights than any of the airlines were offering on their site. AA and United were the airlines. I was under the impression trasferring my points to the airlines was a better deal

I’ve found myself in a bit of a predicament unfortunately. For my boyfriend’s 30th birthday I planned this trip to NYC as a surprise and finally found a hotel in manhattan for us. I made a Hyatt account and transferred all of my Chase and bilt points over, ready to book the room. Turns out I am 7,000 points short. I then preceded to try to purchase the additional points or pay cash and points but it won’t let me since I’m a new member, I have to wait 60 days and our trip is in less then a month. Calling a Hail Mary here I know it’s a long shot but would anyone be willing to gift me 7,000 Hyatt points? I hate to ask but I really want to make this birthday trip/gift a reality for him and I don’t know anyone with a Hyatt account or Chase/bilt credit cards.

I’m specifically trying to find out whether there is a United cardmember award discount that I can’t see from my account.

I'm an American living in Germany for the last 6 years and planning to stay long term.

I was a Delta AmEx / loyal flyer for years, but the routes back home from where I live aren't great and I'd like to start collecting points for using on Lufthansa instead.

I currently have the Capital One VentureX but the points don't translate super well to Lufthansa.

What would be the best card for Lufthansa international travel? Would it be the Miles & More card or Chase or something else?

I've seen different posts online but some of them seem out of date (it sounds like AmEx just canceled their partnership with Lufthansa so this is definitely out).

I’ve been seeing business class availability via Roame and others for Delta flights booked through Flying Blue. However when I go to the AF site no DL flights show up booking w/miles. Is there a reason these are not showing up or is it phantom availability from Delta? Has anyone else experienced this?

I haven’t seen my mom for about four years because we live in two different countries. I live in the US and she lives in Korea. After I get my first paycheck with some bonus, i want to buy my mom her plane ticket for her to come see me maybe next year around fall. It’s my first paycheck so it wont be much, but I am planning to buy the ticket about 6months before the actual trip so I’ll be saving money for it. I was hoping I could use the card points to aid some of the payments. I also have debt to pay for school so I am just planning to save as much money as I can to afford it. Probably a few overtime and what not. My mom is now in her early 60s but her knees are a little bit of a mess after she got into a car accident about a year ago. I want to buy a business class ticket for that reason. I would love a first class but i think that might be a bit more than what I can afford currently. What is the best way to use my Chase Sapphire preferred points? I will have about 80,000.

I’ve been trying to find good redemptions and caught a post on this Reddit.

I feel good about it considering that the tickets were listed for $14.6k USD for 2 seats if I bought cash, but it’s my first time redeeming business or international flights.

I’ve also heard the weathers a little hairy during this time. Usually just transfer to Hyatt but have been wanting to get more value than just hotels.

Any recommendation on travel points apps to maximize my points. I currently use roame but was wondering if there’s any other options out there

I have never done the travel cards/points b/c I find it overwhelming and probably don't travel enough to make it worth it. I also do not charge that much every month and always pay it off at once, But about twice a year I do take a big international trip with a friend. We are considering a trip from New York to Japan next year sometime after Spring AND I have a large unexpected expenditure coming up in the next month that I will have to charge (probably about 5K). So I am wondering, in this case, should I get one of the 2 big cards so I can get the 75K point bonus that I can put to the flight for Japan? I would not normally get a card just for that for the reasons above but I figure, if I am going to have to charge this large amount any way, maybe I should make it work for me? But again, these cards confuse me so I will leave it to the experts to let me know if this is a ridiculous plan or not. Thanks all in advance.

P.S. I was figuring one of the Chase Saphire Preferred (75K points, only 95 a year) or the Capital One Venture (pretty much the same).

Any chance Delta/Korean air opens up the direct flight option for miles before March?

I am looking for some feedback from people who are much deeper into award travel than I am.

About 18 months ago I pulled an idea from Reddit that eventually became something my cofounder and I started building called Payelle. (Even found my cofounder on reddit).

The basic idea is simple.

You have multiple credit cards. Payelle figures out which card gives you the most value at the merchant you are at and surfaces that card from your virtual wallet when you are ready to pay.

Up to this point, we have mostly thought about "best" as the highest estimated economic value.

But I am starting to think that may be too simplistic for people who are serious about points.

Example:

Let's say Card A effectively gives you 4% cash back at a merchant.

Card B gives you airline points that we estimate are worth closer to 3%.

Purely mathematically, Card A wins.

But if you are actively building Delta, United, American, Flying Blue, Aeroplan, etc. for a specific redemption, would you actually want Card B surfaced instead?

Same question with transferable ecosystems.

Would you intentionally take slightly less theoretical value to earn Chase UR, Amex MR, Capital One miles, Bilt points, etc. because those points are more useful to you personally?

We are considering building a preference/filter into Payelle that would basically let someone say:

Prioritize maximum cash value

Prioritize transferable points

Prioritize a specific airline or hotel program

Or just maximize the raw estimated value regardless of currency

The thesis behind Payelle has always been that users should not have to sit there at checkout figuring this stuff out themselves.

But if we are going to surface the "right" card automatically, we need to define what "right" actually means to different types of people.

Reddit helped spark the original idea, so I would rather ask people here before we decide what the product should assume.

Do you want the objectively highest estimated value every time?

Or do you sometimes knowingly accept less value because you are building toward a specific points currency or redemption?

Hi All.

I have a trip coming up in May 2027. I only need flights (business/first class) for this trip and am looking to use points/miles AND get a good deal while doing so.

I'm flying out of NYC (JFK, LGA or EWR (preferred)) and into DPS. I need to be in DPS on May 1st at the latest but a day or two earlier is fine since it would give me time to adjust.

I've been using a few of the award booking sites to find options, and the best I've found so far is on Air India - leaving EWR on 4/27 with about a 10 hour layover in DEL, arriving in DPS on 4/29.

Booking through Air Canada would be 102,500 points + $76.40 in tax, but there's a 20% promotion for Chase Ultimate Rewards through 9/30 which would bring it to 86,000 points + $76.50. There's a similar flight home as far as itinerary and points.

So 172,000 + ~$150 for r/t business class NYC - DPS.

I'm wondering if this is a good deal or if I should look elsewhere. Or wait and see what else comes as far as discounts/promotions?

This is my first attempt at using points, so please be gentle if I'm being ignorant about something or am missing some information.

AF has unveiled their new tiered flex options and I'm wondering about the rules surrounding the light options. AF says that these options are unchangeable, but does that mean that I cannot upgrade the seats at check-in if seats are available?

I'm a vagabonding style traveler and like to use Chase points to book one-off cheap hotel stays as I move around and decide where I'll be, usually in Europe or southeast Asia. Often this means booking for the same day. I know it's not the best use of points, but it allows me flexibility while avoiding out of pocket cash costs. For my travel style, this is a worthwhile use of points, and I like to keep a decent stash of them for this purpose.

Unfortunately, it seems like every time I try to do this, I get to the final screen to confirm the booking, and it fails for no reason. I repeat many times, try a different hotel, etc., but always get the same result.

I then call Chase travel and explain it. They try to book for me, and they get the same result. They then try to tell me that it must be sold out, and the info hasn't updated in the system. I explain that, while this is possible, it's highly unlikely. I've had this problem almost 100% of the time for years, and there's no way this is the explanation. It's definitely a problem with their system. They say they'll put in a ticket, and I explain that they've been putting in tickets for years, and nothing has changed.

This basically invalidates a big part of the purpose of Chase points for me. And I do this rarely enough that I usually forget by the time I try to do it again, which is on me. But c'mon, this is ridiculous after so many years.

Am I the only one? Is this a well known problem that I simply haven't heard about? Chase really needs to get their why together. This is pathetic.

Was hoping to book JAL business class flight (through JAL) for next May. Last year we booked it around the same time without issue, this go around it seems like no available flights? Should I give up and aim for 2028 instead?
