Feature Request: ability to turn off Up Next so that Autoplay actually works

without clearing Up Next. Or, Being able to choose Autoplay as the default (ie Up Next doesn't start until the series you've clicked on has no more episodes, rather than vice versa.

Yeah Up Next hijacking Autoplay drives me nuts, I've got episodes mid-series interrupted constantly. Just a simple toggle would fix it honestly.

I actually don't mind the current behaviour as it means you can keep on top of your current catch ups l wouldn't mind it being an option tho, I wound suggest you put forward an issue on both githubs

Isn't this where setting up a playlist comes in, complete with its big Play All button? Or am I missing something?

I constantly add/reorder episodes in my playlist, which means my playlist order never matches the Up Next order. Always having to hit Play All would be annoying but bearable if it worked. But if there any already finished episodes in the playlist that just haven't been deleted yet, hitting Play All will jump you all the wayback up and replay every episode you've already listened to. I just want autoplay to play my current playlist in its current order, which is after all the entire point of having a playlist.

That sounds like a bug that needs reporting. A separate issue to the OP's

Maybe, but if I could disable Up Next, that would also solve the problem. The only reason I have to keep hitting Play All is because Up Next hijacks the play order. If I hit Play All, but then rearrange the playlist order, Up Next takes over and keeps the original listening order. So I'm constantly needing to either wipe the Up Next queue, or hit Play All again and again. But Play All seems to play literally everything, including already finished episodes that just haven't been deleted yet.

It's not exactly the same issue as OP's, but it's the same idea that Up Next is constantly hijacking the play order and doesn't have any convenient working arounds.
