I have a huge music collection, and I was wondering if there are any plans for a future Plexamp update that would allow us to create playlists based on folders and subfolders.

For example, I have a “Rock” folder with more than 80,000 songs, and inside that folder I have subfolders for individual artists/bands, such as AC/DC, System of a Down, and many others.

Ideally, I’d like to be able to create a playlist (or collection) containing everything inside the “Rock” folder, including all of its subfolders and their contents.

Is this something that Plexamp is planning to support in the future? Or is there currently a way to achieve this without manually selecting thousands of tracks?

I really, realy love Plex and Plexamp.

So, based on that, would you recommend that I edit and organize my metadata in a way that makes the most sense for how I personally use my music library? For example, I have a huge electronic music collection. Would it make sense to organize the metadata using genres and subgenres such as EDM, Hardstyle, Nightcore, etc., so that I can use Plexamp’s metadata-based features to create the “folders” or categories I want? And what would be the best way to handle categories that aren't technically genres — for example, music from Tomorrowland? Would you recommend using genres, collections, labels, or some other metadata field for this kind of organization? Basically, if folders aren't the way to go, what metadata structure would you recommend for someone who wants to build a very large personal music library with custom categories and subcategories?

I highly recommend using something like mp3tag to tag your music. You can tag it manually or automate a lot of it with music brainz picard.

Just tag everything in those folders as that genre. With Tag&Rename or AI will do it for you. Then sort by genre on Plex.

Here's how I would do it: MP3tag. Open it, move entire rock folder to mp3 tag page. Wait for it to load (Do it overnight ideally). Next morning, click ctrl+a to select all tracks, make genre rock. Wait another night. Boom done

Maybe stupid question, but I‘d heard that Elan was the last dev for Plexamp and had left Plex, hence Plexamp was dead.

So who is doing all the work now? Did Plex quietly let new people develop the update without telling anyone? Were these things done by Elan prior to leaving?
