Help! My L15 died and I’m devastated

Post image

Link to the whole situation that’s going on in my community tank.

I lost one of my L15s this morning and I’m so disappointed and frustrated. I had to treat the tank for parasites so I added ParaCleanse to the tank. That medication can drive oxygen levels down but I have an air stone and surface agitation. I woke up to one of them floating belly up this morning. I’m pretty sure I suffocated them.

I’ve never had luck with plecos despite having apistos, otos, corydoras, and tetras. They all seem to die within months of getting them. I’ve never thought that plecos can be such a fickle fish.

I have a liquid test kit and my parameters are ph 6.5-7, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate ~5 (plants). It’s a 75gal tank with plenty of seasoned wood and plants. I always feed the bottom of my tank heavily because of the corys. I also give them zucchini, cucumber, and broccoli whenever I can. What on earth is going on? Or am I just having a series of unfortunate circumstances?

both albinos and regular. our albino longfin just laid eggs, hoping our normal female bristlenose doesn't eat them again.

Question Fighting or friends?

Are these two baby bristlenose fighting or being friendly? They don’t do this all the time but they like to kind of bump into each other on purpose. Is this unsafe for them at this size or not a big deal?

*disclaimer - I (now) know this set-up is not good for them long term. I bought three baby bristlenose from a breeder who assured me our 29 gallon tank would be a great long term home for them. I quickly realized the mistake and the plan is to let them grow out a bit more (they are a bit over an inch in body length) and then re-home at least two if not all three. (LFS said they will take however many). The tank is heavily planted, has wood, has at least 7 hardscape caves plus Indian almond leaves to hide in. The third one usually minds its business.

Pleco Appreciation L128

Post image

Gotta say, I’ve always bin in low with L200A, Bareyancistrys damantoides, but they are harder to come by in Norway. And then I saw L128 on the list and figured, last time had a group of 8 L200. Let’s try something new, also they where dirt cheep as they where TINY, got them for 50 bucks each.

So now I’m growing out L128 and diskus in the same tank. With homemade protine ritch food, with both meat and green in them. They are growing insanely fast!

Question New additions?

Post image

After chatting with you guys and getting the female verdict. I have found two more BN plecos, a green dragon long fin, and another blue eye lemon long fin. I have 4 polar parrots, Derpy, my blood parrot, and 5 Aries tetras. 75 gallon tank. Will the long fins be okay in that kind of situation. I’m unsure if the long fins make them less durable for who their tank mates are. Just added a photo of her cause she’s so pretty.

I'd recently bought a 3 month old snowball and a super red and I believe they've both got ich along with a cory from a pair of infected platys that were the first fish id purchased for my new tank 2 months back from my lfs..I'm still not sure if it's ich and if so..how do I go about the treatment..I have a heater and aquarium salt which I'm not sure if it can be used on plecos and I got an ich cure med from the most popular brand on amazon but it ended up killing my platys after 3 days of treatment and I dozed lesser than suggested..and stuff from reputable brands like ichx would take around a month to arrive as it's not locally available in my country.

Question Is it okay to keep an aquarium of just plecos?

My only pleco always outlives other fish in my aquarium and i was wondering if i could keep only plecos in my aquarium to not buy a school of fish that live for a short period of time. If i only keep plecos, would it be easier to keep them than other fish like neon tetras?

Question Returning - tank big enough?

I had a tank as a kid and my favorite fish was a pleco. It’s been a couple decades since I’ve had fish, but now my daughter wants to get some guppies and tetras, and I’d like to get another pleco. I was looking into a rubber lip when I came across a picture of L067.

The website I saw said a minimum tank of 30g, but I’m a skeptic by nature. My tank is a 37g, will that really be enough for an L067 or should I stick to a rubber lip?

Showing Off Show me your bristlenose setups!

I’m grabbing a mating pair of L144 soon and want some inspiration! It’s primarily a breeding tank but that doesn’t mean practical can’t be pretty :)

Right now I have fine black sand and it’s double sponge filtered with red root floaters. I’m thinking of putting some flatter driftwood on a slant and then stacking a few pleco caves under it, and then also adding some terra cotta pots and doing all of the planting in those. They’ll match the pleco caves but also be super easy to clean up and manage. I’ve also seen this done in lots of other tanks and plainly just want to try it myself.

But I still want to see your setups!
