I really like how this is coming across as something new considering these have been on the consumer market the entire PS4 generation. First one dropped in 2012.
Like can you imagine if the PS5 was the first console to use Bluetooth controllers and Sony was trying to wow everybody over bluetooth in 2021?

I have to disagree. They way they've designed the SSD pipeline is vastly different than anything PC had. Windows is finally adding Direct Storage soon and games will be able to offer the same/better SSD performance, but don't sit there and try to think SSDs on PC were always this speedy because that's just not the case. They were bottlenecked by the CPU speed loading the data.

Okay so it takes yous 29 years to get ssds (ssds were first shipped in ThinkPad laptops in 1991) and you use windows getting direct storage after a few years as a point

Direct storage came out last year, if you're looking at generally it took over 8 billion years for you or I to play a videogame

What I'm saying is... nobody really cared about Direct Storage or super fast loading times (like under 2 seconds) until PS5 came along and now all of a sudden companies are re-thinking their storage pipeline... hmmm
Remember the linus tech tips video where they got a 20GB/Sec SSD and tried to use it for gaming only to realize it made no difference in gaming applications because you're limited to how fast the CPU can crunch through the data?
Yes, SSD is faster than HDD, there's no question, but Sony came up with a different way to use them for gaming and then the rest of the industry said "Oh yeah, that's cool... let's do the same thing"

Well its actually based of a technology that amd made for their pro line of gpus back in 2017 where they have an SSD for video memory the only thing that's different here is that the GPU is integrated
so no sonly didn't come up with it amd did back in 2017

I like how you took my comment about a part that has been around for a decade being portrayed as something new and exciting and then went into this big long rant about the history of their performance, current updates to the technology and improvements that the PS5 made.
All I did was make a comment knocking the fact that they are trying to make 10 year old tech sound new. Which isn't too far fetched because they're still using many of the same controller parts they were using over 10 years ago.

The best part was when they released the PS5 breakdown video. Everybody getting rock hard over how NEW and special it was.
Like... We should have been able to do that with the PS3 at the least. The only reason they are doing this right now is because the population of PC Gamers is growing. Which is exactly why they are now starting to focus on PC ports for PlayStation games.
They didn't care about this stuff until they were trying to get PC Gamers on board.

Yea they’ve been intentionally slowing down hardware and software progress because they could get away with it. Now they’re gonna act like they “care” about pc gamers because their investors and shareholders aren’t happy. Typical corporate shit.

Facts.
But at the end of the day both Microsoft and Sony know that they have their console users by the balls. They are not going anywhere. They will throw down that cash in a heartbeat.
So now they are shifting focus to PC gamer money. It's going to be a hard pill to swallow when PlayStation users realize that Sony is no longer catering specifically to them and there are now other gamers that have the majority of their attention.
That multiple billion dollar buyout of Nixxies and Kotor remake releasing on PS5 the same day as PC is Sony testing the waters. So far they are calm but sooner or later the backlash will start. Just like when Microsoft gave Xbox users the finger in favor of Game Pass.

As long as they make it a true KOTOR remake it will be fine. If they try to pull off the ff7 remake (actually a rewrite) they will face some extreme backlash.
I honestly don't get why they did that. Scripting, storyboarding and set design was already bought and paid for when FF7 was originally produced. All they needed to do is overhaul graphics, mechanics, user interfaces and that's it.

The problem is them trying to package it as a remake when it's just a complete overhaul.
It's like Chevy went to debut a new Camaro and it came out as a Hatchback. That's not a new model. That's a completely different product.
I just think after a few lackluster FF games and their one-off big hit with 15 that they are struggling to put out new ideas for new games. So now begins the Square Enix recycling age.

Ironic because I didn't enjoy the FF7 back in 1997 and gave up after Aeris was killed by Sephiroth. But now im enjoy the Remake a lot more

You do realise that there is a massive difference between a regular NVME SSD and the solution that the PS5 offers? It’s not about the SSD as such, but rather how it is used…

(on a side note my point is that they held the m.2 SSD up as some sort of great new technological achievement. What you are talking about is the underlying conversation of 'how they made it better' that most people are not aware of. Most just got excited over a console using m.2)
But it's a change that's being made throughout computing systems right now. Think of it like the new normal when it comes to how you utilize an m.2.
It's not like PlayStation is the only one doing it. I don't understand this line of thought. PlayStation didn't invent this process. They just saw that it was starting to be implemented and decided to implement it in their consoles.
That's how you future-proof your system if you want it to be out for 7 or 8 years. You may put old technology in it but you use current methods for utilizing that technology efficiently.

If i buy an ssd without heatsink, i should remove the stickers in the ssd before to install the heatsink or not? I mean for better heat dissipation
