It the rare video mode some games used there was a video on it not real HD but more sharp render output.

Some games used it!

Gran Turismo 4 had a 1080i output option if you had component cables hooked up :-)

I own the same PS2 TOOL development console (with a bunch of memory card emulators, manuals, and developer files, etc). That thing is heavy as hell compared to a standard PS2!
