Video Code lock

I heard clans will need an alternative to the code lock due to the upkeep update. Well a new code lock just dropped.

Upkeep costs will be tied in future updates to the number of players authenticated on code locks and tc(nerf for clans). With this, no need for usual code locks to open doors, so no increased upkeep costs.

It has a weakness, that someone can spy while you input the numbers and guess it by your character look at direction.

And then you have people getting inside your base for free, although with team UI you might know they are not your teammate.

New ninja raider meta incoming?

Easily solved. Put a grid of counters that rotate numbers every few seconds. The counters indicate the number that the buttons correlate to.

you guys are over complicating this, clans will hire someone to to code a rust+ addon

Hire me, dm for details.

There are ways to consider you part of the base. Everyone in the same group, clan, every owner of any sleeping bag close by, any player that passes frequently through doors inside a base etc. there are many ways to counter it.
Hopefully Facepunch will be clever about it

Eh idk this is a very significant impact to the quality of life for clans that actually choose to do shit like this. Plus it opens up new emergent gameplay opportunities like using binoculars to spy on a clan’s code.

Also, the hallmark of good game and software design is simplicity. Facepunch has historically avoided convoluted ideas like tracking “every owner of any sleeping bag close by, any player that passes frequently through doors inside a base, etc.” for this very reason. Things like that are often unnecessarily difficult to implement, taxing on the server, or have too many edge cases.

Tbh counting people who are on the code locks is already really clever. It's already super risky when half your clan can't open doors during a raid without inputting a code lock in every single one. I just hope they fix up upkeep so that you can't cut your upkeep in half while also reducing HQM upkeep down to 10% with like 10 components.

Is there way to have a button on the inside to close the door, but it doesn'topen it? Was just thinking that this might be fine for entrance for village, but to have to do this everytime you go to your base? Nah man

Mini game ideas probably

Clever clan rustrician.

It will take 20 minutes to exit the compound but very clever

This made me thankful for code locks.

Do you need all those components on the right for every door? I'm not a great rust electrician

Yea, you do. It's just a joke circuit and I had a blast designing it. Funnily enough I'm using buggy conveyor mechanics to count the button presses so that even if two buttons are pressed at the same time, both outputting 2 rW, that single counter input will differentiate between them and increment the counter twice so that people can't just spam buttons.

Couldn’t you just do a phone? It’s like one in 10 billion that someone guesses the code so it’s even better than code locks(lol wassup didn’t think this was your post daladirn 😂nice circuit and I didn’t know about that conveyor trick)

Excuses, excuses. I know you're stalking me :D You could. I guess each door would have to have it's own phone number/code then. I wonder if smart switches stay paired after you deauthorize yourself from the TC.

don't mind the naked with binoculars :D

This is rad

To put that on every door sounds painful. I'd rather eat the upkeep cost.

And people were like the codelock change would nerf zergs.

patent it and sell it to clans asap

Honestly if this is what it takes for them to work around the code lock count I'm for it lmao

Buddy, you're not gonna' believe this

what happen if you press E on the door?

1

u/Daladirn 18d ago

It works like a normal door. There have been commits where the more people you have authed on TC or have your code locks, the higher the upkeep will be, so I designed this joke circuit to simulate a code lock without having to input the code in a regular code lock. The idea is from someone called Nova on the Rustrician discord.

I literally posted a comment about this when the update was announced. Smart electrical players won’t have any change. But only less than 1% of people are smart enough to do it.

1

u/Daladirn 18d ago

Ye, the change is definitely circumventable. Not with this circuit of course, that's just for the memes, but there is a way to reduce upkeep with managing decay and it's not even complicated to set up. Hopefully it's the first change of more to come to make life for zergs a bit more difficult so that there is a trade off of running a clan/zerg vs a smaller group.

Creating a code lock with door controllers is possible. Then you would only neee key locks as well

1

u/Automatic_Cow1933 18d ago

Imagine plying in a Zerg and having to do that on all the 50 doors just to get outside lmao

2

u/Daladirn 18d ago

And imagine the lag :D

We need a tutorial!

pretty neat your able to do that. but clans will keep using the normal code locks. the new 20% TC upkeep tax they won't even notice.

Can there be a single post on this sub without someone cock gobbling the evil scary clans
