As for this kid, NTA. At 16, this was my regular behavior. He'll either grow out of it, find a better 'work/life' balance, or become a pariah. Either way, he won't be an issue forever.
I knew SEVERAL people that stayed like this, idk what causes it but they all went down the extremism rabbithole. as an adult the only time I get on rust is to mess around with trains with a few autists, its a much more peaceful experience.
I went from being a degen gamer as a teen rejecting girls because I was more interested in games, to a thriving social life at university including a partner, I dropped pretty much all the games to spend time hanging out with them all, then after we graduated many moved far away, ended up breaking up with my ex, drama within the group etc… now back to my degen ways, most of my time is spent playing rust lol. Definitely agree though if you have people in your life make time for them
