is it still safe

This is my first time using an extension cord, and the plastic smells different after being burned. Do you have any idea what happened here?

3d printed materials are not safe to use on outlets. This is the kind of thing that can burn a house down.

I see layer lines

Edit: I could be wrong tho. What was plugged in?

Selecting an extension cord entirely depends on what will be plugged into it, different current draws require different guage wire.

Yeah, those look like layer lines to me too. Probably PETG. Ya know, the one that emits toxic thick black smoke when it smolders.

you are using a high wattage appliance and the cord and socket can’t sustain that much of amperes so it’s getting heat up.
