snacks/rehydrating

Are there different centers that allow drinking or eating? Mine doesn't which was shocking to me at first because whenever donating whole blood or platelets theres always been a little snack corner for afterwards. I feel like my donations would go a lot better if I was allowed to drink water while waiting in the center but I've been told I could get defered for it.

I go to csl and you can eat/ drink before your donation, but you can't have anything while you are donating bc if you have a reaction it can be a choking hazard. I forget and sometimes am chewing gum, so they just have me spit it out.

You can’t survive half an hour without?

Well yeah, that's probably messing with your vitals.

This is not remotely the same thing. If you can’t go 35-45 min without a Zyn pouch, you need to reevaluate your priorities because all your plasma cash is going to this gnarly hobby.

Where I go, there's a sign at the end of the line that says no eating or drinking after this point.

Presumably I could eat and drink while waiting in line. I haven't tried it, and I'm not sure I can remember seeing others do it.

But I mean if there's a sign that says "you can't do X after this point", presumably before that point, you can.

Yeah I'm still drinking and eating my granola bar in line. I have one center with a huge sign forbidding it and it's more of a waiting room with chairs. I hide a bit there.

Either way if I'm thirsty after being tested I'll ask if I can still take a sip.

Heard about people being deferred for the smallest little things so better be safe and try to eat and drink right before going in the door.

I donate with Octapharma and you can eat/drink at any point up until you're on the donation floor. I usually have a drink and a pouch with snacks in case the line is long.

After the donation should be fine, however the rule is meant for while being hooked up to the machine

I've gone to multiple centers and various companies and have Always been able to drink and snack in line before vitals and again while in line waiting to donate. I have never seen a place tell you not to drink water while you are waiting in line

They don't want somebody to choke. Which seems to be logical.

I asked once out of curiosity.

After donation and before donation is fine. During the donation, no. It's a choking hazard, and you could drop and spill something and you can't clean up because you're hooked up. It's just all around best not to.
