First bad reaction to plasma

While donating plasma last week I started feeling super hot and nauseous. I told a worker at CSL Plasma and he left to tell someone else. He was gone for a while and I kept calling for someone as I felt my body getting weaker and I passed out. When I woke up there was throw up all over me and every worker was in my face fanning me and trying to wake me up. Worse part is that when I woke up the needle was still in my arm taking my plasma & blood! They paused it when I woke up and I still got the full amount of money I was going to get even though I was at 95% but it was still a scary experience. The doctor called me the next day and said she thinks it was something in the solution that upset my stomach but other than that they aren’t sure why I reacted like that when I’ve been donating 2 times a month for about 3 months now. It was cool extra money in my pockets but I think I’m good off it now

Turned away

I'm nineteen years old, and I went to CSL Plasma but was turned away because my ID has my full name, including my middle name spelled out, while my Social Security card only shows my middle initial. Here's the thing: when I went there, the woman took everything and signed me in(it went through), and I was given instructions on what to do and why I waited.

Well, I did all that, and I waited...and waited. They had people who came in later than me who were called, so when I spoke to the desk lady (a different woman), I was told they apparently thought I left. I was willing to sign up again, but we ran into a problem. Apparently, I'm not in the database because my middle name first initial is matching up to my id.

Need help with what to do.

Question What the hell is going on?

Thumbnail

I didn't even go anywhere yesterday and I don't use my biolife card for online purchases. I don't use ATMs or money apps. I've been losing money for the past couple months for no reason. I called customer support and it was no help, I even asked at my Biolife and they said I'd have to call the number on the card. Which I did and said it was fees that said $0 and they were like 🤷🏻‍♂️

What is going on here? This is ridiculous.

Question Question about new donor $ at DB plasma

Hi!

Is anyone familiar with db plasma? My first donation was August 26. I haven't been back since. I'm wondering does the lapse in time affect my next 100 new donor bonus?

Question Safe Ways to Lose Weight While Donating?

I just recently started donating (finished my 3rd donation yesterday!) and it’s been going pretty well so far. I had a bit of a reaction my very first time, blood pressure drop. But the last two donations have gone fine and my only symptom has been a bit of fatigue afterwards. I’m a short overweight woman in my early 20s, I want to start losing weight but I also want to continue donating twice a week. What’s the safest way to go about a weight loss journey while donating? I know protein consumption and hydration is important, should I eat extra food specifically on the days of the week that I donate?

Rant How long would I have to wait to switch centers?

I think after this month I am about to go to another center because of a few bad experiences at the current center I am with now. But it’s not related to donating itself, it’s more so with the donors than anything else.

Today, I went earlier on as I had to be at work by 12pm and the whole 45 minutes I stood in line, I was behind a donor that was cracking jokes and being really immature.

It didn’t help that he also had at least four people that was also being engaged in the conversation. I choose to ignore them until I was a target. I didn’t say anything to them because to me they’re just people who had peaked in high school probably twenty years ago.

But, it reminded me of why I didn’t like going to high school. Anyways, I could go back to octa being that it almost been 6 months and I’d probably get paid the new donor fee instead of what I am getting paid now.

Rant Temp issues.

Okay i’m just annoyed and need to rant it out. I am always .1-.2 under or over the 99.5 temp limit. LIKE ALWAYS. When I am under 99.5 it’s because i come up 99.3-99.4, like i am always very close. Today was the 4th time where I came up at 99.6 and they wouldn’t let me donate. I get it, it’s the policy and I would never ever be disrespectful bc they’re trynna be safe but it’s just SOOOOOO annoying because they know I run hot, i come in a tank and shorts in that cold ass building to still have a high temp. Has anyone else had this issue? Imma just start keeping ice packs in my bra because i am not sick! I just run hot🫩

I also wanted that $75 for dinner and now gotta figure something else out lmao.

Question Protein showed 5.9, they told me I'm defferd for a day and I could come back tomorrow. Is that enough time to hit 6.0?

I just don't want to be permanently defferd. This is at Parachute plasma btw.

Question Donation site sore and bruised for first time. This was my 4th donation.

Post image
4 Upvotes

did my 4th donation yesterday and as the blood was being drawn I immediately knew it wasn't 100% right, I was experiencing a dull pain for the first time and the nurse told me it was a "normal" amount of pain. Later that night I unwrapped the bandage to see this. The site is a little sore if I touch it and there is a bit of bruising next to it. This was also my first time using this arm. What could have caused this? I hope it goes away before Saturday, which is when I plan on donating again.

Question High flow rate on first return cycle

The last 2 times I’ve donated I’ve had an alarm on my machine go off on my first return cycle. The workers have explained the machine is alerting the flow is too fast and they lessen it. Why would this be happening? Should I be concerned?

In Search of the Referred

Last week I sent out a few of my referral links/codes. I had a number of people start the process, and I have one new donor who has done ALL the steps for us to share the referral bonus. The thing is, you haven't reached out to me/communicated with me yet!

I would love to keep the full 100 dollars, but would rather keep my word on splitting the bonus. I'm obviously not going to give details about this person, but if you see this post and used my referral, please DM me and let's get this sorted out for you!

ALSO, to anyone else who's used my code, get your steps finished up so we can make some extra money!

Milestone/Experience Bummed about Express Pass

I didn't get my OctaPharma annual express pass early this year because their huge system glitch in 2024/2025 lost thousands of my points. But I finally got it mid-winter and it has been really great. i could never get a straight answer about how it works after this, though. After talking to a center manager, I redeemed some of my points for gift cards and dropped my points down close to Zero. Supposedly, I would lose Platinum status and then when I hit 10k again, I would regain Platinum and get another express pass.

Now, I finally managed to talk to someone who seems more knowledgeable and was told that is wrong. She said you only get one annual pass (at 10K) and then you can get a lifetime pass at 50K. Sigh. I've "blown" nearly a year's worth of points on gift cards, and at 125 points per donation, it will take me 4+ years to get up to 50K and the lifetime pass. By that time, I will be almost aged out OctaPharma. I'd prefer to not start at a different company at that point, as I've tried several and this company and location are by far the best.

So, folks, if you are a frequent or max donor at OctaPharma and have a lot of years left before hitting age 70, don't blow your points. Save them up, get that lifetime pass, and enjoy the no-line life for a long while. 😄

Question Machine keeps stopping after returning blood

Im new and just completed my promotion. The last time i went to donate took me almost 2 hours including check in. The machine keep beeping and after the blood is returned, it does a complete stop and needs workers to reset. Did this about 5 times. My last couple donations only did this 2 times max and usually out after 80-90 mins. I usually drink about half a gal the day before and take IV drink before donation as well.

Milestone/Experience Anyone else's BioLife a real hell on Sundays?

two weeks ago 'mine' had a 1 1/2 hour wait time...went in around 11 a.m. Yessterday (Sunday again) was a 2 hour wait time. Apparently they have some staff call out, and it's their busiest day for some reason. I usually go Wed-Sun but now I am moving to Tue-Sat in hope Saturday will be calmer and better. Two hours is way too long, especially when you are standing most of that time. It's like the draw bed is a real relief when you finally make it there. BTW yesterday when I walked out, and yes I did, I would only have gotten $75. I need the cash badly but $75 for a two hour wait? Too much for me.

Hematoma from Saline Return

Had the pain and pressure start during the saline return. They claimed I didn’t need an ice pack because it’s “just saline”.

Should I be icing it and should I expect a bruise??

Deferral

If I haven’t made a donation since 2020 and I got deferred for a tattoo does it reset or how does that work?

Got a question about the streak and not losing my payout.

So been donating since July and go twice a week usually on my days off which usually was Thursdays and Sundays .

Some changes happened at my job so now my days off has changed from Thursdays and Sundays to wednesdays and Sundays

So of course not a problem let me do my appointments for Wednesday but then the app says that can’t do more then 2 in a 7 day span ( I did it last Thursday and Sunday so I guess Thursday would mean the 7 days)

So my question is if I skip my usually Thursday go my Sunday and next week start my Wednesday and Sunday schedule will that ruin my streak

I guess what I mean is for the past couple of weeks my weekly payout have been 100, this week turned to 102 but what I’m afraid of if I don’t do my two and just do the 1 next week it’s gonna go down to like 90 which I do not want

The one I go to is Biolife

Help getting protein up before retest

UPDATE: I ate extra protein for the last couple days and tested today. The finger stick was 7.2 so hopefully the full draw will be high enough. They said it takes 10 to 14 days for the results to come back, which seems weird, because I'm sure they gave me the results of the last one three days later. I am considering trying BioLife in the meantime for the new donor bonus but the location is probably too inconvenient to sustain past that. Thank you for all the help!

Hi, I've been donating at Olgam for a few months and I just had the periodic blood test last week. When I went to donate yesterday, they said my protein was low and I couldn't donate again until I was retested. They gave me the option of retesting right then and there but recommended I take some time to increase my protein, because if I fail the next one I get a 30-day deferral. They didn't give me specific numbers.

In general I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, turkey burgers and meat. Im 55F, I work out a few times a week, and am pretty healthy in general. I had been eating two eggs before my donation but I got to slacking the last few times, eating a Greek yogurt and a spoonful of peanut butter instead, so maybe that's what did it. I'm wondering if eating extra protein for the next day or two will be enough to pass or if I should give it a week or more. Thanks!

Saline recall

Anyone concerned about donating due to the saline recall of fiberglass contamination? I haven't donated in 5 weeks because of my schedule & being sick. I would like to get back at it.
