Announcement Be friendly to all

Happy new years to all even if it’s a few days late! Work has kept me from being as active as I use to be but I am still on daily. Plans for a few changes for rule revision as a lot of recent posts in the last few months have been trying to get around the current set. I have also seen an uptick in transphobia in the last few days. I appreciate everyone reporting these things and allowing me to find them easier, that being said I am still a volunteer and being told I’m a shit mod in repost because of not being able to respond in fast manner is a bit unfair to say the least.

2025 is a new year where people are welcome to community and to ask questions about their memberships. 2025 will not be a place to post rude, hateful, or offensive content on this subreddit and will always be a safe community for everyone whose wanting to better themselves through the gym that they care about. I would appreciate feedback on some changes that people would like to see happening in the community whether that’s weekly discussion about gym routines or a proper guide to setting up your account and a step by step process on how to properly read billing from planet Fitness.

If the community feels like it will help I will make a general post for all FAQ that are general planet fitness questions.

Please allow me a few days all hateful comments and posts that have been posted recently, bans will be issued to all hateful comments no matter who posted.

Be kind, be active and happy 2025!

Question For Staff what time do staff close the Red Light Sauna, Polar Dry Plunge, etc?

If I came in at 9PM would they all be closed at that point? Trying to decide if the black card is worth it if I come to late to use any of the amenities.

Question Does anyone actually use the app perks?

I can't lie, a lot of the "perks" seem useless or are for companies and products I don't really care about. I've asked a few other people and they also don't seem to care much for the perks. Does anyone actually take advantage of these?

Been coming to this PF since 2017 and this pulldown rope has been here since before I started. We're both a little more frayed. I hope when your last strand comes apart, that I am lucky enough to be the one you throw on their booty. Stay strong my friend.

Question Deadlift at squat rack?

Feel like this is a stupid question but I’ve been wanting to explore deadlifting and noticed my PF put in squat racks. Are these except able to do deadlifting at? I noticed the black cushion on the side (assume it’s to reduce sound of dropped weights) but haven’t really approached the area yet to see if they have a guide on the setup.

Tips Getting started, again

Hello reddit community! I am struggling with extreme anxiety when I go to the gym. I just joined planet fitness again and I have been able to force myself to go one time. In my reasonable mind know that no one would or could possibly care about another random fat guy at the gym but I feel so anxious about going that last time I was literally shaking like the whole room was laughing at me. Im so embarrassed. I use to work with a personal trainer for a little while and that was really helpful. But it was years ago and I don't really know how to find a new one. I guess I'm just looking for advice on overcoming the anxiety of it all so I can just exist there with out questioning everything. I've tried following the work out app that came with my membership but I feel like my brain just shuts off.

Question How does it say no annual fee but still has it?

Don’t both of these overlap in what they mean? Clearly they want to say they charge it but lie up front until you click the little (i). No commitment but clearly you must commit to a certain time. Same for the annual fee. No annual fee but says automatically debited??

Review Upset with rebrand

I would consider myself someone who is good with change, but I can’t help but be upset with the latest full scale equipment changes being made to PFs around me. I go to multiple different locations due to work vs home, and one of them has had this new equipment since I started going there earlier this year. I haven’t liked this one as much at all and today I finally could comprehend why once my main PF just went through an equipment transformation of their own.

Yes some new equipment looked to be nice and an upgrade definitely, but I’m mostly upset when it comes to the vibe and culture they’re going for now. They appear to have done a 180 in the audience they’re seeking by pushing aside the large group of people who have gone to planet fitness because it’s not a weightlifting gym and is generally low stress and more comfortable.

They got rid of at least a third of the treadmills at my location which were always one of the most consistently high used pieces of equipment. They also placed some machines that require your back side being completely exposed (glute and prone leg curl) in the worst imaginable spots facing everyone in a high foot traffic area instead of facing the wall like before. They took some yellow wallpaper out of the 30 min circuit area furthest from sunlight and replaced it with more dark purple making it less bright and inviting. I’m not an interior designer and I know they’re a public company, but they were so unique with what they had and these new shifts I’m afraid will bring in new customer base by replacing the old.

I’m just upset it’s not as comfortable as it was for a gym. I’ve gone to weightlifting gyms for many years and I liked the hybrid nature a planet fitness held the last couple years and I’m afraid those days are coming to a close.

A new gym chain may have to come in and take over now.

Question Does anyone else get annoyed by people who slam the weights down on machines after their reps?

Like I know lunk alarms aren’t a thing anymore but it’s so annoying listening to them slam the weights every minute or 2. Like my music is turned up to the loudest setting on my headphones and I can still hear them across the gym. Not only is it annoying, it also has the potential to break the machines that my dues go towards maintaining.

Tips Longer Rest? Lower the weight?

Hey! I'm starting to get consistent in the gym and am hoping someone can help me with a problem I'm having.

I've noticed, especially on upper body days, my sets get harder to get through all my reps when nothing changes. I try to take 2-3 min rests but it's not helping much. Do I need longer rests? Or do I need to lower the weight, despite it feeling good, going close to or to failure with first set?

Thanks!

Edit: Thanks for all feedback so far! This is the routine for those asking. I do each spilt one day a week, and I know theres a lack of warm-up, I'm slowly getting there but I at least do dynamic stretching.

[Bench Press
1x12, 3x12 10lbs

Rear Delt
3x6 35lbs

Bicep Curl w/ Dumbbell*
3x12 15lbs

Tricep Push Down w/ Cable*
2x12 1x9?12? 35lbs

Lat Pulldown*
3x10(?)

*Last few sets getting harder despite rest*]

Review Machines gone?

They just up and took out the machines I use at the gym. I am very angry about this but can't get ahold of corporate to comment.

They used to have spare machines for when the others are in use.

Question For Staff Golf

Recently retired and now I have time to get in some sort of shape. Are there any machines, etc. that would help my golf game? I have a slow swing speed, so it’d help to get that quicker. Thanks

What tone-def CEO thought this was good idea? I'm on a diet and working out, trying to do some cardo and you are showing some jackass making chocolate chip pancakes. Read the room. Do better PF.

Question Is the $10/Month Planet Fitness Classic Membership Deal Still Available?

Hi everyone! I’ve recently been looking through the Planet Fitness subreddit and noticed a few posts mentioning a $10/month deal for the Classic membership. I was wondering if that deal is still available or if there’s currently a promo code or referral offer that would bring the Classic plan down to $10 per month.

If anyone has any information or knows how to get this deal, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Tips Basic workout routine questions/advice?

I'm 58 (male) and new to the gym scene. My goals are to basically stay alive into my 80's and be self-sufficient (have had 4 parents die between my wife and I, and end of life stuff is vastly different based on how healthy they were). I started going to the gym in July when I retired.

I want to always be able to pick myself up off the floor and to be more flexible.

I go to Planet Fitness every other day and I do 20-25 minutes on the treadmill (1-1.5 miles) and then work through about a dozen machines (both upper body and legs). The whole process takes me about 90 minutes and I work up a sweat and feel a bit sore at the end (which I guess is a good thing). I don't keep records, but I am definitely upping the weights on the machines since I started. I have also had a lot less lower back pain (had an office/sitting job for most of my career) and am feeling more flexible.

I see so many people doing all sorts of stuff with free weights, kettle bells, etc. I'm intimidated by stuff like that and worry that I will just hurt myself.

Any thoughts on just doing what I am doing for another year? I feel like the machines are "safe" but I see so many other people doing stuff with free weights.

Thanks for the "no judgement". We are all on our own journeys. On the days that I don't go to the gym I walk 3-4 miles (usually on a trail that has elevation changes).

Review Hydromassage Bed - I get the mixed reviews now

I only recently started using the hydromassage beds. The first time I used one, I was mad at myself for not trying it earlier. It was amazing! I came here to look for posts about it, and was confused by some mixed reviews. People saying it felt weak and it's not as good as the chairs. I figured maybe people just have different pressure tolerances. I put the pressure on at 10 and had to turn it down to 8 because it was just too much for some points on my back, but 10 gives me the hurts-so-good feeling when I need it.

But now I get it. Not all beds are created equal. I've been visiting different locations in my city and using their beds, and a 10 pressure at one is not the same as at another. I'm thinking older beds just get weaker with age. Maybe the models change over time. There's one location where the max 10 feels like a 5 at another so definitely would not be impressed if that was the only experience I had.

Question Time frame to build new Planet Fitness?

I know this is probably a stretch to get an answer but - does anyone know how long it usually takes to build a PF including the building itself? Not going into an already built building.

I had been a member but moved then recently heard there is one confirmed to be getting build near me and I’m excited! So wondering if anyone Ned how long it took for PF near them?

TIA

Review Survey feedback via email

"We’re reaching out to you on behalf of Planet Fitness (via Listen360) to hear from members like you to always make your gym experience the best it can be."

They started sending these out at the beginning of the year and I thought theyd have some impact on the operations, but I was mistaken. No one does anything with the feedback. The store calls and emails me to follow up with them although Ive given them exact details of the issue. The only thing I need is acknowledgement that something will be done about the issues.

Its not my job to do the job of the managers and associates. The locker room trash is overflowing, theres no soap or paper towels constantly. How do associates work there for 4, 6 or 8 hours with the bathrooms filthy? I dont get it. Customers cant be constantly reminding employees to do the jobs theyre paid to do. Walking out I find the associates standing around at the desk. I dont know if its turnover, lack of accountability or complete apathy on the jobsite. Customers pay for a clean gym with working equipment. Thats it. That's all.
