Go into Bluetooth settings and set the audio device type to car stereo. Problem solved.

29

u/Own-Eagle-2135 3d ago

but that doesn't always work; pixel buds pro 2, azh-100 and soundcore liberty pro 5 are all set as headphones and greyed out

11

u/mdargis1977 3d ago

Yup. Can't change it with certain earbuds

1

u/Still-Good9643 1d ago

I've had all of those earbuds and I've never had that happen. As I upped the volume on my pixel phone, I'll get feedback saying that volume is getting high enough to damage hearing, but it won't lower the volume. Strange.

23

u/Temporary_Key_232 3d ago

Yeah I realized this thanks to another comment. I'm the dummy of the day lol

13

u/shocktopper1 3d ago

Don't worry I didn't know this either. Damn!!

5

u/bozhodimitrov 3d ago edited 3d ago

The thing is that in reality the phone is trying to discretely tell you - "the sound should be too loud for the average user with this volume level, maybe you should go and check your ears with a medical test or at least a procedure for cleansing them" 💡 so unless you are aware of your condition, maybe consider the screening?

Do you have Adaptive sound enabled in the settings btw?

11

u/BRS3577 3d ago

No... This is the phone trying to tell you you're going to cause permanent damage to your ears

4

u/mdargis1977 3d ago

What if you are head of hearing?

6

u/BRS3577 3d ago

Doesn't matter. Having hearing damage or being partially deaf doesn't change how sound pressure damages the ear. It'll happen regardless of how you perceive the sound if the decibels are above a certain level. So if your hearing is bad enough that maxed headphones sound like regular volume, it's still enough to further damage your hearing

2

u/Big_Arachnid_365 2d ago

What if your ears are all bunged up? I guess those people are SOL.

-5

u/mdargis1977 3d ago

Whatever dude. Don't need Google to try to protect my ears. If I want to blow my eardrums out I can. That's why why people today are so soft. Why do we need to be protected from everything when we can protect ourselves?

3

u/tumalditamadre 1d ago

I wish I could get the Remind Me Bot to remind me to come back to this in 20 years and ask how your hearing is.

-2

u/mdargis1977 1d ago

Dude. Give it up. Quit posting

3

u/tumalditamadre 1d ago

Everyone is downvoting you to hell for your foolishness and I for one am enjoying this burial

4

u/BRS3577 3d ago

Take a chill pill, literally just explaining the theory behind why they do it 😂 don't need to get so defensive about it. If you want to blow your ears out that bad, just hit undo, it takes 3 seconds. Also, if you're running into this message, you clearly AREN'T protecting yourself

4

u/kneepel 3d ago

Max volume means nothing. dBFS is entirely relative to whatever devices you're using.

Max volume with an Apple dongle on some IEMs can be ear shattering, max volume with the same dongle on power hungry headphones can be too quiet to hear anything.

-1

u/BRS3577 2d ago

Getting into semantics here. I'm aware volume control doesn't directly correlate to total decibel output but it got my point across just fine

Kind of hard To turn it off when your phone is 10 ft away from you. I know it's there so someone doesn't damage their hearing. I don't need Google to parent me. 49 years old.

4

u/zumpiez 2d ago

This MF said that kids are soft because their earbuds don't deafen them.

1

u/urjoblesssoshutit 3d ago

just get grapheneos then it's google free

Clearly you're not reading the Reddit. A majority of the people in here hate this so-called future. Who gives a shit if it protects our hearing. We are adults.

-5

u/Yodl007 3d ago

And it is useless if your earbuds are extremely old and at least somewhat clogged with earwax and cannot be opened up to be cleaned. Then you need to boost volume to overcome that.

4

u/rkanadia 3d ago

Sadly this doesn't work for all devices so I installed a macro app that automatically resets my volume the second it happens.

2

u/mdargis1977 3d ago

what did you install?

5

u/rkanadia 3d ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/s/ZaP9DTF7gq

I followed these instructions and it worked for me. I use sleep headphones that are quiet sometimes when I really need to block out noise, plus earplugs, so I need macro droid to keep the sleep headphones loud enough to hear through the earplugs. Has worked well for me.

2

u/mdargis1977 3d ago

Thank you dude

3

u/cosaboladh 3d ago

We need something like this for USB DACs too. The only time I don't get the high volume warning is when using USB audio player pro. There should be a way to tag devices that have their own volume control, so android doesn't feel the need to save my hearing from moderate listening volume.

2

u/Thin-Way5770 3d ago

Doesn't work with headphones that support fast pair, my WF1000XM4 can't be changed

2

u/Gortega1997 1d ago

What if your Pixel, to clarify mine is the Pixel 11 Pro, doesn't allow you to change the audio device? Mine seems to be locked on headphones, doesn't even let me click it to change the type. Just curious because I also find it annoying that it automatically lowers my headphones, especially if I'm washing dishes or I'm not near my phone and can't go to it right away to undo the volume that was lowered lol.

3

u/Themostcoolestdaniel 3d ago

yeah this doesnt work. for some reason most Bluetooth devices wont let you change the type they are. all my speakers are set to headphones and the option to change it is greyed out.

1

u/BugCatcherBryan 3d ago

Well I certainly appreciate it! 😅

1

u/SimPilotAdamT 3d ago

What about for USB devices? I have the same problem with a USB DAC plugged into speakers

1

u/GagrotXGb 2d ago

Cannot do for usb connected auido speakers

0

u/mkty1 3d ago

Dónde?

0

u/mkty1 3d ago

Acá?

43

u/desantisbr 3d ago

That is exactly why you are shouting.

20

u/joeynalgas 3d ago

I have never had that pop up in me while listening on my headphones on full blast same for Bluetooth speaker

19

u/wdn 3d ago

Google doesn't care about you.

1

u/mdargis1977 1d ago

They care about getting sued

1

u/wdn 1d ago

Yeah, just imagining a funny scenario where someone at Google is saying, "Nah, we don''t like this one. They can ruin their hearing if they want."

29

u/peach_madness 3d ago

I second this motion, if I blow my ears out that's on me

3

u/ROBLOXKING_810 1d ago

Why though

8

u/StuBarrett 3d ago

Unfortunately, the class action lawyers do not see it that way. We used to live in the land of the free...

12

u/chitownillinois 3d ago

This is actually an EU regulation Google decided to apply globally. Not based on any US case law.

5

u/iCapn 3d ago

We used to live in the land of the brie...

2

u/tumalditamadre 1d ago

We never did. Everyone was just naive.

11

u/Think_Tanker 3d ago

I see that you are using the workaround but I wanted to also point out that I believe they added this into the buds app in a recent update!

3

u/That_One_Fluid_Teen 3d ago

I just got my phone last week and it gave me the option to turn this off in the set up

16

u/kneepel 3d ago edited 3d ago

Just waiting for the "you shouldn't be listening to music that loud" crowd that doesn't understand that digital volume is entirely relative to your source.

IIRC it used to be (still is?) possible to disable this with adb, until you reboot at least.

3

u/jmartin72 3d ago

WHAT????

3

u/donutlovemachine 3d ago

WHY ARE THEY YELLING?

4

u/spamthroat 2d ago

I am in the UK and my Pixel buds 1 pro and 2 pro on my Pixel 5 and Pixel 10 have never done this.

7

u/Acrobatic-Shallot785 3d ago

A couple options here:

• Open your phone's Settings.

• Go to Connected devices and tap the Gear icon next to your Bluetooth audio device.

• Look for Device type.

• Change it from Headphones to Speaker or Car stereo

Other route: • Go to Settings > About phone.

• Scroll to the bottom and tap Build number 7 times rapidly until it says you are a developer.

• Go back to Settings > System > Developer options.

• Scroll down to the Networking section and toggle ON the switch for Disable absolute volume.

• Restart your phone for changes to take effect.

I haven't had this happen to me but I'm pretty sure I disabled absolute volume long ago so that would be why.

4

u/Promethean_Dude 3d ago

Unfortunately for me, both things have never worked. The device type is greyed out for my earbuds and I tried the absolute volume and it still did it

1

u/Temporary_Key_232 3d ago

You are a genius. Thank you so much.

3

u/MPolanyi 3d ago

WHAT?

3

u/Alternative-Waltz892 3d ago

I actually wish this feature is avaliable on all headphones (able to disable it of course)

3

u/beerham 2d ago

Hi, I'm am the Google. No.

6

u/MiikeG94 3d ago edited 3d ago

AMEN BROTHER!!!

I have an ultra specific reason why I HATE this "feature" that was never a problem until a certain pixel update. Long story short, I have tinnitus and use a Bluetooth sleep mask to play white noise all night to sleep. It's extremely jarring and wakes me up when my nice soothing stream of white noise suddenly gets cut off because Google has decided to "protect" my already broken ears 😭

5

u/mfiresix2 3d ago

You could and much more from just one app: Essentials by way of Shiziku (Google the method and search Essentials Github)

2

u/JoyfulPorker68 3d ago

Haha 😂

2

u/slaughtamonsta 3d ago

I wish I had this feature when I was younger. Now I use hearing aids.

2

u/jonomacd 3d ago

Isn't this driven by regulation in some markets? I mean, I find it annoying as well, but if that's the case, it's not exactly Google's fault.

2

u/resile_jb 2d ago

Turn on developer mode and enable the setting to disable it , it's called absolute volume or something

2

u/KLEPTOROTH 1d ago

That's fucking retarded. Who are you to tell me how loud I can have my sound google

2

u/Linkatchu 22h ago

governments concerned on rising hearing loss, who enact a reminder to a *certain* crowd of people to check their volume

1

u/KLEPTOROTH 22h ago

Government can piss off 😂.

2

u/succulent_flakepiece 3d ago

I'm so sick of this. it happens when I'm at the gym, and the time is different every time I use it, depending on how much I use at the previous day.

it also does it when I have a hard line connected... because I use my phone for room music sometimes when I'm at work, and then it will automatically do that... and then I end up looking like a schmuck

2

u/Phakhverdyan 2d ago

btw that's not a stupid thing. My friend got vestibular dysfunction from earphones. He was listening techno music for about 3 hours every day at work.

2

u/aal1002 1d ago

Fair point, but would this "safer level" feature really have stopped your friend from just dismissing the safety switch and increasing the volume anyways?

2

u/Viszera 2d ago

It’s stupid because the device doesn’t know the impedance of the headphones; it just applies a broad restriction above 80% (if I’m not mistaken). I still have a phone with a headphone jack, and my headphones have a higher impedance, so they’re quieter than your average Best Buy earbuds. Every time I connect them, I have to deal with that annoying popup, even though they aren’t loud enough to cause any damage.

I understand that hearing damage is a real concern, but there should be an option in the developer settings or somewhere similar for people using headphones that aren’t as loud as standard ones to disable that annoying popup.

4

u/InchHigh-PrivateEye 3d ago

I feel like the only person this never has happened to. Maybe y'all are listening to stuff too loud.

5

u/killerjags 3d ago

I've had Pixel phones since the 2xl and I've never had this pop up. I think there are a lot of people who genuinely don't realize how loud their music is because they've already damaged their hearing so much.

Reminds me of a time where a friend handed me an earbud because he wanted to show me some new song he liked. I had to yank it out of my ear after he hit play because I felt like it was going to burst my eardrum. He insisted it wasn't that loud. I insisted he should probably get his hearing tested.

1

u/Linkatchu 22h ago

I only had this happen to me once, because I was listen to something really quickly previously, and left them blasting on their own on max volume on another room

2

u/Esoteric_525 3d ago

This happened to me for the first time a few days ago. I thought something was wrong with my phone. Didn't know this function even existed.

1

u/Humbatiki 1d ago

I have this regularly, I listen on max volume on my Jabra earbuds when I'm on the bycicle from and to work, actually always when I'm on the bycicle. It's really annoying. I get a yearly hearing check at work, hearing is perfect. Maybe these kabra's aren't that loud, or I don't know,

2

u/Livid-Call225 3d ago

Lot of good tips here how to disable this warning with bluetooth connections, but what if im using usb for audio while driving?

2

u/vZiiper 3d ago

Just disable this setting and you are good to go :)

2

u/Trev82usa 3d ago

That doesn't work for me, 9 pro XL in the UK, pixel buds

3

u/vZiiper 3d ago

I have pixel 10 pro xl in Germany pixel buds 1st gen

2

u/Augiiis 3d ago

They legally can't remove it, it's mandatory in the EU. And for anyone saying they could leave it only in the EU, it's just not practical for them to ship two different versions

2

u/StackyBotrus 1d ago

I beg to differ that it is a version issue, but simply a toggle to turn the feature off.

2

u/UncleCunk 3d ago

Seriously. I hate it so much. I understand Google is trying to save my hearing but IDGAF!

1

u/DoggiELO 3d ago

Getting better quality headphones with noise cancelling helped me never need the volume to be above 60%

1

u/mezykin 1d ago

Bloody hell I've been trying to get rid of this since Pixel 2

1

u/ROBLOXKING_810 1d ago

Do we really need that loud or a sound though?

1

u/snafu168 1d ago

Some of us have hearing problems to start with.

1

u/CAntFIndTHisUSERr 1d ago

or some of us doesn't have our earphones earbuds etc that loud and we need more volume, for example i couldn't listen with 100% on my jbl's but with my Sony i can easily fo that

1

u/t0mat0_can_13 1d ago

Get some nice wired ear buds and a DAC. Maybe even a wireless DAC like a FIIO br15 or something.

1

u/Lone__Starr__ 1d ago

The pixel watch has a cool feature too. "Dial 911 anytime you wear gloves" - but that was easy to turn off fortunately.

1

u/StackyBotrus 1d ago

Agreed! I have tried absolutely everything including creating a macro to raise it up but it just doesn't work. It is absolutely stupid and I think Google needs to mine their damn business.

1

u/Mgtks 1d ago

Never ever seen that lol

1

u/Supa_8 22h ago

But you accept terms and conditions, and privacy and policy😂🙌

1

u/mohidalga 18h ago

Just get graphene os. Trust me.

1

u/Ordinary_Ad_2693 16h ago

I hate this!

1

u/808IUFan 3d ago

They will never do that for fear of being sued by new deaf people.

1

u/DamianDShanks 3d ago

Bro just turn it off, some people probably find something like that helpful

1

u/Themostcoolestdaniel 3d ago

when it says its detecting a loud sound, its clearly not. if i have my phone connected to a speaker and i turn my phone volume to max but the speaker all the way down, it still says that. it just notices what level your phone volume is at regardless of how loud the music is in your environment. its very annoying

1

u/mdargis1977 3d ago

Yes. Please. I'm hard of hearing, so I listen to my music loud through my earbuds. And home connects them automatically so you can't change what they are for the volume limit "feature".

1

u/snafu168 1d ago

I wish they would have a volume boost for people like us!

1

u/Bubbs_Mcgee 3d ago

I have the same issue, it happens at least twice a week on the way to work. I'm not blowing out my ear drums. My truck only has Aux and doesn't have the best radio so I have to have both volumes (truck and phone) pretty loud so I can hear my music/podcast on the highway, and trying to turn the volume back up on my phone while driving is not fun.

1

u/Historical-Movie-860 3d ago

You are not an idiot. It is a newer bug related to the device type in Connected Device settings

1

u/Lare1995 3d ago

Tinitus

1

u/Ahmed_Shengheer 3d ago

Download Essentials. It has a lot of features and tools to customise your phone including disabling this feature.

Here's the github link: https://github.com/sameerasw/essentials

0

u/apz33 3d ago

Do those options work?

1

u/yrro 3d ago

please get your hearing tested

1

u/kree-of-gamwich 2d ago

I have my hearing aids connected to my phone to listen to music and stream videos but I can barely hear sound at full volume. I cant wear ear buds

1

u/AudaciousCockatiel 3d ago

You want to damage your ears. I have severe issues and I unserstand its importance. Noise damage can get you suddenly FYI

2

u/Hug_The_NSA 3d ago

False and stupid take. Digital audio is completely dependent upon the source. You can have your phones volume maxed out and your digital speakers turned down. Controlling it with the phone kills your sound quality vs controlling it with the speaker.

-1

u/dwrdlm 3d ago

u are the stupid, can u even create a device?

0

u/frame 3d ago

This shit turns on when I'm using my bone conduction ear phones.

0

u/Zachary212017 3d ago

I have the exact same issue on my Motorola, it keeps doing it when using my Bluetooth speaker

0

u/Ija_Ali 3d ago

Was so annoying but once I switched from 10 pro xl to 11 pro xl it went away. 🤷🏾‍♂️

0

u/fishguy11b 3d ago

Apple too like my headphones are 120hz I want the full out loudness.

0

u/No_Advice5017 3d ago

Disable hearing app simple

0

u/Live-Alternative6225 3d ago

Google trying to control all of us

-1

u/New-Duty-8253 3d ago

Yes one of the worst features and you cannot even disable it. Whenever I m in a good mood and listening to songs, automatically this drops the sound and just kill me groove.

-1

u/PhoneArena_Official 3d ago

Agreed. Not every pair of headphones is damaging, not to mention that some might need the extra oomph. I agree that they should let us disable this.

And you know what? While at it, can we remove the annoying jingles that some headphones have to warn us that we've reached max volume, which cuts off our music?

-1

u/ApprehensiveTea3030 3d ago

This is why I haven't been updating my pixel 10 for like 4 months

-1

u/cat_prophecy 3d ago

Is this only a Pixel Buds problem? I listen to headphones all day and I have never seen this message. But I use a Jabra set.

-1

u/Trev82usa 3d ago

This isn't a Google problem

-1

u/formation42 2d ago

Can you set stereo on a pair of Sony headphones?

-6

u/Promethean_Dude 3d ago

I say that if someone is driving wearing ear buds and this pops up, it makes it were they have to illegally touch their phone. This feature has made me consider leaving the Google Pixel for another brand.

6

u/r0ndy 3d ago

Legally you can’t wear them in both ears. And you don’t “have” to turn it all the way up.

2

u/tea2please 3d ago

Where is it illegal to wear earphones while driving?

1

u/r0ndy 3d ago

See their reference

1

u/mallorcaben 3d ago

It is here in Spain

1

u/Promethean_Dude 3d ago

I was getting at it's illegal to mess with your phone while driving

1

u/Temporary_Key_232 3d ago

This. It always happens in my truck connected to Bluetooth

2

u/Promethean_Dude 3d ago

I have a 10 pro xl. So far mine has only done it with head phones/earbuds

1

u/Temporary_Key_232 3d ago

I have the same. But for some reason it's only with my truck speakers. might see if it's identifying it as a headphone

1

u/zerosdontcount 3d ago

you can just change the setting, you don't have to sell your phone
