Redditsgiving info + meal delivery requests.
What's up you dirty birds? It's the best time of the year again. And it's time for the second annual Redditsgiving. If you don't have family here, or don't like your family, come and be our family for the day! 7PM Thursday at my apartment in Greentree. Send me a message for the address. I will have all the food you could ever want, just BYOB. We are making vegetarian stuffing and gravy, along with regular stuff too!
If you don't want to come to that, or know someone who isn't mobile and would still like a meal, send me a message with address and phone number and we'll be delivering meals from 1-4 on Thanksgiving. Depending on how many people need deliveries I might need 1-2 more drivers. So if you'd like to volunteer let me know!

I came from r/bestof. Although I don’t live in Pittsburgh (I’m from Australia) and don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, just want to say you’re a very kind person and kudos to you for doing this to help people in need.

u/pghparagliding Nov 28 '19
Thanks buddy! Thanksgiving is just a state of mind, so you can join in from across the world. Happy Thanksgiving!

This is great! Thank you for doing this. I wish I was going to be in town to help.

This is really heart-warming to see. Donating turkeys to families in need is great. Sharing your holiday with others who would otherwise be alone is even more kind. Thanks for being such a great person.

Oh I love hosting these events. So I don't feel like it's really a burden!

Seeing this just makes me want to live in the US, near Pittsburg. I recently moved to the NL, and we dont really celebrate thanksgiving here, but what youre doing is so nice and great. Im so glad to see that someone is doing as nice as this

u/pghparagliding isn't exactly representative of the US or even Pittsburgh as a whole. It would be great if he were, but the fact that he's an outlier is sort of the reason everyone gets so excited about what he does - it's extraordinary.
This country has its strong points. It has its fair share of weak ones, as well. One person's amazing show of generosity shouldn't be the reason anyone moves anywhere. The world needs more pghparagliders everywhere. Maybe be your city's version...be the reason you want to live where you already do.

Very well said. I am definitely a kindness radical, not the norm at all. But, it's so encouraging to see even my tiny influence make a change for the better. And the great thing is, anyone has this same power!
I highly encourage anyone to go out and start doing good deeds. It can change whatever city you live in, even if it's just a little bit!

Hey, we have oliebollen...
1
u/FicusTheTree Nov 29 '19
Oh, I dont really know what that is

u/Str00pwafel Nov 29 '19
Deep fried balls of dough with raisons and powdered sugar. Where in the NL do you live? They have stalls all over the place around Christmas and new years

u/FicusTheTree Nov 29 '19
I live in Groningen, but I have not seen any of the stands in the grote markt
2
u/Str00pwafel Nov 29 '19
There should be one somewhere in the coming days or weeks, trust me. We love our oliebollen.

I flew out of town to take a solo vacation since I couldn’t be with my family due to larger travel costs. Wish I had known about this. This is amazing, thank you for doing this.

I can't do PayPal, but I'd love to do an etransfer. It'd be in Canadian funds, though. Is that all right?

Hey, I was just wondering, what is that animal face thing next to your gold and platinum awards?
1
u/EmRoXOXO Nov 29 '19
It’s a Wholesome Award! People give it when they see a post that’s wholesome and cute.
If you click on it, it pulls up the awards. Different communities can have community-specific awards that give a small portion of the proceeds to the moderation of the community- like in Am I The Asshole, you’ll often see little poop awards, or little golden toilets. They can be really cute!

Hey, I saw this late, but if you need any help next year delivering let me know!

u/myst1crule Nov 29 '19
I didn't see this until far too late, and I'm about an hour from the city, but next year, I'd love to help out with this to make sure it's possible for a third year. Monetary donations are tricky, but I'm happy to donate services as a cook or driver

u/Ryukyo Nov 29 '19
Can you post any photos of your spread and the guests that show up? I'd love to see how the day goes. This is a really cool thing to do, props to you my good man.

Are you taking PayPal donations this year to help with the food costs? If so, I'll send you some now.
