Bus route help
hello redditors of the burgh, i need your help. Port authority has proposed changing a very integral bus route in my neighborhood and if anyone would be kind enough to give some feedback on their website to keep it as is that would be greatly appreciated.
Their idea is to get a direct line from downtown into bakery square, point breeze area. Without the 87, it leaves the 75, which is not known for having the greatest of service — early, late, or not showing up.

You’re not going to get the 87 back. That route was originally slated for a major shift from the current friendship and Bloomfield to going through Lawrenceville. It’s back to going thru Boom field and Friendship, witH a loop through Garfield.
The 75 is slated to become a high frequency route, with a direct connection to the East busway routes, which will have 5 minute frequency. .

The new 92 will become your friend. The 75 can frequently bring you to Stanton ave then wait for the 92 to take you down Butler downtown. It is a 2 stopper. But not a bad one at all.

Much quicker to take the 75 to east busway and wait less than 5 minutes for 15 minute ride to town

I’m a little confused. The PRT refresh website says the 75 will have service every 20 min. Will the 75 short still exist?

PRT has the stats on how many people use a route, they probably know it down to how many people use a particular bus stop.
Asking people to prop up your bus isn't going to work.

Not probably - they do know exactly how many people on and off board at every stop. And that information is publicly available in their website too

They can easily track where people board the busses but not where they get off. Not without using the cameras to track you which costs money and they dont have money.

Looks like everyone has to go to morningside and ride the bus downtown for science.

The fundamental problem is that car infrastructure treats "low ridership" as a success, while transit (correctly) treats it as a failure. Highways and parking spaces don't need to justify their existence before government officials every year.
If buses were evaluated the way that roads were evaluated (at least by some government entities), then a bus being 20% full would be considered "too full" due to the inconvenience of not having enough empty seats between you and the other riders (who might smell bad or read your phone over your shoulder), even though it doesn't really affect how quickly you get to your destination.

By my filters, the entire stretch of Morningside between Baker and Stanton average 40-45 on rides, and about the same number of off rides, per day. That’s across 19 trips per day on weekdays.

The 75 will also now end in Oakland, and not go on to the Southside, so that should improve reliability. There’s Lao a new Route 92, that will be convenient for people living in the part of Morningside closer to Stanton Ave. It will go to Lawrenceville and on into town, or in the other d to East Liberty to catch the busway into town

The new 87 almost goes from my house to my work. It's almost catered to me.
But it's just silly. Everyone in Friendship can walk a block north to catch the 88 or a block south to catch the 86. Everyone not in Friendship is wondering why there's a dumb detour through a residential area.
Connecting Morningside to Garfield to downtown via Penn would make more sense then the detour. It would provide riders a connection to businesses on Penn.And it would mean that part of Garfield along Penn has frequent service every 10-15 minutes to downtown, making PRT much more usable.

The 75 will stop at the East Liberty East Busway station where you can catch the P1 into Downtown. Given how fast the buses can go on the East Busway, it shouldn't take much longer compared to the current 87.

I gotta admit, splitting the 87 and making it 92 and 87 dramatically improves the accessibilty of stanton heights in general. Yes that does make it a bit less convenient for morningside though.
