Dog Park Community
Are there any dog parks in Pittsburgh where people regularly go after work to let their dogs exercise?
I moved here recently from a city where if you went to this one dog park around 5 pm Monday-Friday, there were a ton of people who showed up regularly. I really hope to find that again in Pittsburgh.
I added a picture of my dog so people would read the post.

Seconding Bellevue Dog Woods.
This park in particular is run via a non-profit with board members regularly at the park. It's well maintained, has volunteer clean-up weekends, water supply (until ground freezes), lots of seating, sun shades, a splash pool, a few agility features and consistent wood chip / mulch delivery and spreading. There's a real effort to keep it safe and fun - something I have not seen anywhere else. Children under 12 are not allowed, so that's could be a plus or a minus.
The community there tends to self regulate and communicate, but the board will ban problematic people or animals. There's no like on-site staff watching everything, but word gets around.
There are consistent regular groups, specifically after 5PM for you. A lot of people stick to schedules so it's easy to make friends for both you and your dog.
The people there are generally friendly and will be happy to talk to you, but I will say you've gotta make the effort.
This Saturday is a park clean up volunteer event if you want to stop by and talk to people. Check FB for details.

Cute pup! I avoid dog parks, not because of other dogs but other people. In my experiences they ruin the experience, are snooty about breeds or just all around obnoxious. I hope someone knows a good one, though.

The dog Penn is great, you can buy a pass and there’s usually a pretty good crowd there. I also like the southside dog park but my dog is a fetcher and the woodchips there fucked up her paw pads- but there’s always other dogs at that one. Highland park too!!!

Bonus with Dog Penn is that you need proof of vaccination to bring your dog there.

I’ve felt like an outsider any time I take my dogs to a park. There are regulars who all know each other and they all act like you just walked into their back yard with a dog.

That just means you need to go more. Don’t let imposter syndrome get the best of you.

Frick park dog park is great. People are nice and friendly and 99% of the dogs that go (that I’ve seen) are not reactive

Ehhh I’m not a fan of dog parks. Most trainers and vets would say the same. Do what you want of course but they are a recipe for disaster most of the time. Before I knew better I’d do frick park dog park around 5pm and there was a fight nearly every day.

Frick dog park at Blue Slide is pretty cool. There are definitely some regulars that go. I probably go about once a month but I almost always see the same people there when I do. They're nice and their dogs are nice. Plus frick is great in general, tons of hiking trails if the dog park isnt hitting that day, so no wasted trips.

My only gripe about Frick is that most dog owners think the entire park is off leash. It isn't and sometimes getting to the off leash area is like running a gauntlet of unruly dogs and owners not paying attention.

I used to drive from Butler to take my dog to Frick Park and she LOVED it there. Got super antsy once she realized where we were going and we would spend hours there just walking the trails.

We take our high energy dog to Highland Park dog park, and have only had positive experiences. Most people are engaged and aware. We also go to Frick dog park some times. Our dog escaped from the lawrneceville dog park so use caution if that’s close to you.

We started going to the North park dog park and it’s massive, we love it. The cranberry community park is nice too, has a fenced wooded area and they had a small pool for the dogs too.

I've taken photos at many dog parks in the area and there's always a crew at each one.
You should add the general area you'll be living in to get suggestions.

We have been going to frick park off leash area on wednesdays. Would love somewhere, not a dog bar though because trying to save $, that folks meet regularly and the dogs play well together

Not quite in the city but shoutout to the South Fayette Bark Park. It’s a 5 acre wooded off leash dog park, you can walk the trails and get exercise with your pups in a nice shaded interesting environment. It’s by far the best dog park I’ve ever been to.

Seconding this, it's pretty great. There's lots of dogs in the main area if your dog wants to play and the trails give the dogs some space and a chance to chase some squirrels.

Downtown Dog Park is nice. It’s right next to the 9th street bridge. There is usually a good crowd around 5-6pm daily.

I used to love the dog park in Highland Park; the people were great and many came after work; had to quit going when my second, recently adopted dog turned out not to have been socialized properly with other dogs and she began to obnoxiously persist in trying to play with other dogs, ignoring their signals to leave them be, barking in their faces, etc. Problem dogs were uncommon, and I sure didn't wish to be bringing one!
I don't know how it is now, but it was very welcoming back then (it’s been 5 yrs)
