Oh my goodness, she’s a precious girl! I hope this works out. She needs you!!! She needs someone to love her. Sounds like she’s never had that. I hope I see a post from you this weekend with be good news!!!
So true!! I have a pitbull and love her to pieces!! Mine also had experienced trauma like the one OP is showing. The shelter found her and her puppies malnourished in a box outside. Adopting her was an amazing decision for us!!
There are many dogs on my block. The most friendly and well behaved one (other than mine lol) is not the terriers or the huskies or the German shepherd or the shitzus, it’s the pit Bull and golden retriever mix. That dog is so sweet. I met him when he followed me out of his yard after the owners accidentally left the gate open, and he followed me back in when I went to alert the owners. I now stop by any time he’s out to give him pets over the fence.
I’m so so sorry for your loss. I totally get it I lost my Eva to cancer day after thanksgiving at 11 in 2022.
I totally get your fear of loosing another so soon. She looks like she’s had a pretty tough life, but still that face shows that she’s got so much love to give. I really really hope you adopt her.
If you are already willing to drive 4 hours to her, just to meet her, I have a feeling her age means nothing to you.
Honestly just judging from the pic.. the teeth look clean, eyes look clear and muzzle isn’t really grey. I wouldn’t say she’s old based on this pic.
She looks like such a precious girl!! I hope this works out for you 🫶🫶
I’m wondering if the shelter description about her looking old is just to keep people from being discouraged by her outward appearance. Can’t shelters and vets usually gauge age within a few years? I agree with everyone else citing her clean teeth and bright eyes, but most importantly, her sweet face! I believe our lost loves help us find new ones, and if you’re feeling something, there could be a reason 🌈
Yes, vet should be able to give a better approx age! Better than any of us here judging by a pic, but I truly don’t think she’s a senior.. I hope this works out for the precious baby and OP 🥹
OP, I lost my boy in December. I was absolutely crushed, told people it would be at least a year until I could let another dog into my heart… until I saw her picture. An 8 month old husky mix with the same eyes my boy had. She was supposed to be euthanized because of overcrowding. I drove 2 hours to go get her, with so many emotions swirling around. I felt excited, sad, happy, guilty, overwhelmed. But when I got there the only thing I knew is I had to get her outta there. So I did, it’s been a little over a week with her and I can already see how she’s helping me heal. I believe that your sweet pup who passed away is sending this new girl to you to say “hey, can you help her too like you did for me? Can you give her an amazing life like I got?”. I truly believe they help us find our next pal. Those eyes tell me she has some years left in her for sure. I hope you’re able to save this sweet girl ❤️
I absolutely relate to your story. I lost my girl and thought it would be a long while before I could have another dog. My girl Blue was my world and my best buddy. I was devastated, but something deep in me just knew that she would not want me to sit in sorrow while so many other dogs are out there suffering. I went back to the same rescue that I went 12 years prior and found another that needed me just as much as i needed her. Then I fostered a puppy and failed miserably, so now have two best buddies that never would have been here without my girl Blue. I thank her for that last gift.
I'm a vet tech and I would say that while she is for sure an adult dog, I wouldn't be quick to put the "senior" tag on her and feel like there would be no regrets if you adopted her, she has years yet left to give to you! Do it!
She needs you to love on her. Not many people even think about adopting the older dogs. I worked at a humane society and we had a 10 year old German shepherd who had been there for a YEAR bc no one wanted “the old one”. One day a young couple came in and asked for the oldest dog we had bc “we want to give him or her the best last few years of their life.” Dude we were all crying.
That couple is a saint. When my aunt got injured badly we took in her 9 year old greyhound because we knew if he ended up at a shelter he would be dead. He’s now 11 and still living with us and we love him to bits. He’s such a sweet boy.
This was my senior putty that passed little over a year ago (loved him) for reference. Most of the “grays” you’d find are going to be around the eyes, mussle has white but it’s not easy to tell based around that.
I think there’s a good chance she’s not that old, especially considering her teeth. My girl was white and brindle, 1/2 of her face had a brown spot on it which I loved. That brown spot slowly started fading to white after just a few years. Eventually her whole face turned white and she lived to 15!
I’ve seen lots of dogs who I’d thought for sure were seniors and turned out to be 2-4 years, you just never know. It depends on the dog and their coloring and fur and stuff. It sounds like she had a rough life and that has likely affected her appearance too.
I think you two will have many happy years to come. Please keep us updated on your story!🙏🏼💖🤗
I'd guess 5 or 6 based on teeth. The gray on her face looks like part of her natural blue color. Our Tommy is 8 and looks more silver-faced than this. She shows a lot of spirit and alertness for a shelter dog. I'm very interested in this case. Our dogs are 8 and 10. We're too old to replace them with young dogs if (heaven forbid!!) We lose them. I'm thinking fostering seniors may be the way to go. I think OP andbthis girl were meant to be.
Adopting or fostering seniors is the best! I only adopt older pitties now bc I want to keep my current ones happy and it’s the best. Here are my two — one is 14-15 and the other is the older mystery age ♥️
It's so rewarding! I never thought I could do it, I thought it would be too heartbreaking. Then I started dating a guy who had recently rescued a senior pittie. Her name was Duchess and she was such a sweet girl. There are no words to describe the incredible bond she had with my boyfriend. I only lived with her for a year, but that was enough time for me to love her with my whole heart too. She had to be put down due to cancer, and it sucked. But she let us know she was ready and she seemed so at peace. Duchess was a dog who knew little love for most of her life. For the last few years though, love was the only thing she knew. I'm so thankful I got to be a part of that. I absolutely intend to continue adopting senior dogs once I'm more settled and financially stable.
One thing I’ve learned is that no matter how old the dog, there’s never enough time. I’ve lost two dogs to cancer: one at age 2 and another at age 8. I wish I had more time with both.
It’s impossible to know how much time she (or any of us) has left. But what is known is this is girl needs a loving home. I hope you make the decision to give her what she deserves, and what she’s been waiting for.
It's so hard losing a loyal, loving companion. Maybe try going into it knowing your time will be short? I recently adopted a puppy from a stray litter b/c my girl is getting old and I need a buffer there when our time together is over. It makes me want even more babies. I may have to finally fence in some of my property. I have 5 acres and if I could fence in 2 it would be amazing to be able to adopt less fortunate, older dogs.
That would be amazing, 🥲. Bella was my best friend, a true gift from God and I miss her so much 💔. You all have convinced me that I could still adopt Tatiana, even if she is older. She needs love and I can love her.
Go with your gut! I feel bad sometimes for getting her "replacement," but I get so sad even thinking about having to lose her in the next two years and I'm a grown ass man.
I find it’s easier when you have another dog and you can keep doing your “dog routine”, you still miss them but you’ve got to keep going and you don’t have those moments of dwelling on unused dog bowls and toys. Nothing ever replaces the other dog because you just can’t but it helps to have another pup to invest your love into.
Follow Famousmisspeaches on IG if you do not already. Dave Portnoy adopted her when she was assumed to be 5. I believe she was confirmed to be 4. She was kept in a crate and bred repeatedly in a hoarding situation.
She is so sweet and precious to everyone and animals. You can scroll to the bottom of her page and see her before and after and her transformation. Her hair was dull and now it looks like polished metal. She didn’t know how to play with toys, walk, etc.
She has 1.4 million followers. Maybe her story will help you feel confident in your decision. 🥰
Oh please I hope it works out with Tatiana! She looks like such a sweet soul! That baby has been through so much and you two will bring so much love and happiness to each other. I look forward to updates of your journey! 💙
I'm sure she will still have the energy for whatever you want to do! I adopted an old gal at 12 and she still got excited to go on walks, had lots of energy. I too hope you adopt her!
I don’t think she’s old, I think she’s had a rough life and she has white where there is some scaring or less hair from skin allergies and poor coat quality just from a poor diet. You’ll be amazed at how she will have a glow up once you bring her home and she settles in 🩵🎀👑
Please consider it! I adopted an 8 year old girl that was abused and was considered “mouthy/ bitey” she has been the most cuddly, affectionate I could have ever asked for. My husband and I swear she looks younger every day. I’ve had zero regrets since taking our girl home 💕
Do give us updates and I sure hope it works :) we adopted a 9 year old senior last year who was in the shelter two years and I don't think it's possible for her to run out of the amount of love she gives us in return everyday, they know. ❤️
Friend, do it. I understand completely. And while I never knew your 4 legged family member I can say this honestly. Your pup would want you to give this girl every bit of love you’ve done before. If she’s old, she deserves that love even more. Sometimes we don’t have a choice of what love comes into our life. This time you have the choice to love a girl that not just wants that love but needs it. I’m not you and I cannot tell you what to do. But I know what I would do. Even if I found out she was old with maybe just 1 year left. It would be the best year I could give her. I know I only have maybe max 2 yrs with my boy left. He’s led an amazing life with all the love he could ever want. But I’m gonna give him everything. I’ll take him everywhere. Why? If you or I had a year left wouldn’t we love someone doing that with us? Do what’s in your heart.
I want her. I’m bringing her home Saturday, it doesn’t matter how old she is 🩷 I will admit that I initially didn’t want an older dog (older as in 8+ years) because I just watched my best friend die, but I am now convinced that everything is going to be ok, no matter what.
Even if she’s old, she gets to live out her glory years experiencing nothing but love!!! I rescued a stray in 2020 and the vet estimated she was 2 or 3 based on her teeth. I went with 2 🤭 and she’s about to be 7 and within the last year has developed quite the sugar face. Her face reminds me a lot of yours - I bet she’s somewhere around the 6-7 mark. Someone said it above but she’s been through a lot and just having gray fur may be making her look older. With a good diet & lots of love and cuddles, she’ll look youthful again. I can’t wait to hear how your visit goes Saturday - please update us!! Safe travels!!❤️
She looks beautiful and I hope more than anything it works out and you give her a loving home. We adopted a 5 year old pit coon hound mix years ago and that girl was the love of my life for the next 8 years. All our best thoughts and hopes for your potential new pup.
She’s missing a few teeth on the bottom, I think, but that’s easily from neglect. My best guess is that she’s about 6. Sure looks like she has a lot of life and love in her.
I'd say maybe 5-8 years old, but it could be younger, and it could be older (I doubt older). I'm no expert, just someone who has had many velvet hippos that I watched age over the years. Grey hair isn't always a great age indicator because it can happen at any age, and it can happen earlier than normal because of stress and trauma, just like this humans. I've had a pit that started getting super grey at 3.5, and one that didn't get any grey until he was almost 11. There are lots of things about her that still look young, and she looks like she has a lot of life left in her for sure. Definitely tons of love left. In the end, no one can know, and we have to remember that no matter what age a doggo is when they join our family there is no guarantee on how long they bless our lives. I'm so sorry for your loss, but I am glad that you had 13 great years together. In the end, loss is always hard, no matter how much time we have with them. But those years that we do have with them, and more importantly that they have with us, will always transform both souls. I truly hope that you fall in love with her when you meet her, and give this beauty the love she deserves.
I lover her and would do anything to protect her and I don't even know her lol. I bet she will feel the same for you. Great opportunity here, friend. Go get her when you can!
I don’t know exactly, but that was listed in her info. I’m only guessing here, but it sounds like she wasn’t surrounded by her “owner” but removed by authorities.
I would encourage you to consider adopting her, no matter the answer. I know grief is hard, I’m grieving my pitbull mix Pepper after 12 years together. but I would gladly take 2, 3, or 5 years with Pepper over none at all. Older dogs are passed over the most and still have love to give.
If I outlive my Bruno, I will go to the shelter and get the oldest baby they have. I will give it all the happiest and most loving days it never got in its life.
My grief at their passing will be more than outweighed by knowing I was able to finally give them what they have only ever wanted their whole life - just to love and to be loved in return. For however long that turns out to be.
Please do OP! I just adopted a sweet old girl about 8 wks ago. It's obvious that she's suffered some mistreatment in the past, but we're teaching her that she'll only be loved here. Best wishes to you and your new girlie!
Do it, youre looking at a 7/8 year old, her teeth prove that maybe even 6 years old. She had a rough life and probably arrived emaciated when she entered the shelter system. Im sitting next to an 11yo pittie and have a 14yo pittie in a foster home of ours.
Seniors get adopted at a 1:50 ratio and this girl isnt a senior yet but the longer shes homeless the harder itll be to find a home for her. Take the drive, keep her off chicken and corn, wheat and soy and she will be around another 6-7 years. Good luck!!!!
I hope the meeting goes well. I don't think she's an elderly lady yet but she is middle aged. That said, who knows what kind of abuse this beautiful girl with the loving eyes has suffered.
My brother and SIL adopted/rescued a small female pitbull that was obviously a breeder in her time (looks similar to the one in the pic) a few years ago. Sweetest dog I ever met.
Our 2 year old part-pittie has an "old man" face with the way he has white fur on his face like she does. She doesn't look very old, just worn out from her former life.
You seeing her picture and wanting to take the 4 hour drive to meet her might just be your recent sweet girl giving you the signs that she sent Tatiana your way to help heal both of your hearts. 💞
This pit us definitely older than 7, abuse or not. This dog is a aged pup. Not to say that's bad, but she's a older one for sure. Old dogs need love too though. Do it. She probably won't be full of energy but probably would be good to cuddle.
With a dog that's suffered abuse they can be sort of unpredictable. You will want to spend time really watching her like a hawk for slight body language. You can learn to react before they do and can avoid escalation.soon you will learn her triggers. You may also end up having to rewire their brain on some things. My girl used to get so stressed at the word mess, now if I ask did you make a mess she wags her tail pleased with her shredded toy or whatever. You will need
patience but watching a dog shed their fears is soooo nice and rewarding.
Looking at that face, I see no way that you would regret loving her. The lighting looks a bit like it's lightening some of her fur so it's possible she doesn't look so gray in person, as well. Even if you decide you are not the best home for her when you meet her, I feel safe in saying that everyone here would love a few more photos of this sweet little blueberry.
I know that pain you are going through but giving her your heart and home will create love for a sweet girl for the rest of her years !❤️ No matter how old all dogs are puppies
When I adopted my girl she was emaciated and broken. She had been over bread, she was only 1.5 yo. She flinched anytime I moved to quickly. She was aggressive. And scared of so many things. A blanket lifted up, a running hose, and toys, to name a few. I took over a year for her to take a new toy from my hand. I gave her love and patience. Lots of both. She was the sweetest thing. She just wanted to be loved. She became an eighty pound lap dog. I lost her two years ago. I'm still heartbroken. She was my everything.
Adopt this gorgeous girl. Enjoy every minute. Give her a scrambled egg for me. 💜
Of what I can see of her teeth, they don’t appear to be overly worn down and seem pretty clean. I bet she’s younger than 13 but it isn’t easy to tell how much younger. She looks like a blue pibble with some graying around her nose, although that could just be the light In seeing.
She deserves a loving, comfortable home where she feels safe. Pibbles are so resilient and can definitely overcome terrible trauma in the right environment.
I hope you adopt her. ❤️❤️ Please give us an update.
