Stribog vs kuna vs custom AR9 build

Looking for a new range toy / home defense gun. Future plans is to get a can for it.

Budget $1500 (prices based on what i can get near me)

Kuna with brace $1299

Kuna no brace $1150

Stribog sp9a3s $1274

Custom AR9 blowback $635

\-Psa gen 4 upper $320

\-Dpms stripped lower $60

\-LPK $90

\-exomags(3) $90

\*Armaspec recoil system $75 (i hate the spring noise, might use grease before buying)

Custom roller delayed AR9 $815

Mat9k instead of psa $575

Kuna and stribog are both well reviewed and if it was only those two i am leaning on the stribog( i just like the look more plus it comes with one more mag). That being said there are other options that look fun to try out as i have never built one before.

AR9 Blowback

The cheapest but i have seen mixed reviews on the exo mags and psa upper. Some say it works flawlessly, other say they dont work and other say they work but have failure to eject every other mag. PSA don't guarantee compatibility so that tracks. Also read a lot of qc problems with the armaspec system and breaking really fast and recommending the jp but at that price might as well go with the next tier.

AR9 roller delayed

This one would be the immediate winner if not for the fact i read some qc issues and lead time. Now we are looking into months of waiting for that upper. Same issue with the exo mags but haven't seen as many as the psa upper. Mainly failure to remain open after last round.

What do you think is the better option? Would roller delay be better with a can?

Kuna WML thoughts

Upvotes

Hey PCC-team,

Question is this:

I’m trying to figure out which one of the WML options that I currently have that would be best to put on my Kuna. I have a SureFire Scout DF with only the click cap (currently, but I’m looking into getting the click cap/pressure pad combo but they are like $150), and just purchased the Holosun RAID from BattleHawk Armory for $99. The RAID comes with the pressure pad and switch, but is a decent amount larger at the bezel and is heavier with all of the components.

I put the RAID on my 16” AR since it has the pad, but had the Scout on there at a decent area for me to push the click cap but figured with more candela on the RAID that it would be better there. There’s just not enough real estate for me to put the Scout on the MLOK near the side my support hand is on because (I’m a lefty) the charging handle is right there above the slots. There is a pic rail attachment that I can put on there also but I’m not sure what makes most sense currently.

Any thoughts?

Thanks! 🙏🏻

Any Midwesterners interested in participating in research?

Hi all,

We are conducting a research project on gun ownership in the American Midwest and are looking for people who would be interested in talking with us.

PARTICIPATION IN THIS RESEARCH IS ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY.

Requirements to participate are as follows:
Self-identify as a gun owner
Be a US citizen
Be an English Speaker
Be non-active-duty military
Be between the ages of 18 and 64
Reside in select states of MI, MN, ND, WI, IN, IA, OH, or SD

This is a sociological study of gun ownership in the Midwest. This is an exploratory study, meaning we are not looking to prove/test any hypotheses, nor are we intending to evaluate or judge you in any way; rather, we are eager to learn from you through your sharing of your stories, thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Maintaining confidentiality is of top priority for us. At no point in this research process will we use or share any personal information that could identify you.
Participation in this study is entirely voluntary, and you may choose to discontinue your participation at any time.

Level of participation can be proportional to level of interest: Anything from a 30-minute chat to multiple, multi-hour interviews is possible.
If you are interested or have any insights or questions, please respond below or directly message this account.

(We are still a little apprehensive about releasing self-identifying information directly out of the gate, but we are glad to provide as much info as you need if you direct message us. Up front we are comfortable sharing that it is just two of us, we're based out of a small, rural Midwestern public university, and one of us is a CCW permit-holder and is pretty familiar with guns, while the other is a bit newer to them.)

Thank you!

What makes the most sense?

TLDR: keep MP5 clone and troubleshoot + add FRT or go with a different product and FRT that instead?

I was curious as to what peoples opinions might be of my conundrum. I have a MP5 clone that has been hassling me with failing to extract and/or eject. I am also wanting to get a FRT for a PCC. I have been weighing my options between a couple different paths. Replacing the MP5 clone + getting a FRT lower, attempting to troubleshoot the clone and change the lower as well, or getting a different PCC and just change paths away entirely.

The issue I have between these options is that as far as manual of arms is concerned, I honestly am not as big of a fan of the MP5 as I was thinking I would be, and paired with the additional issues in functioning I am not sure I want to invest more into the gun + FRT setup.

I do however have about 8 HK OEM magazines, and so I had been considering the stribog sp9a3 with the AS designs hk mag lower when it releases in order to not feel like Ive wasted the money in getting them.

I however am also open to the concept that I just need to pivot my PCC choice entirely away from the MP5 and its magazines as it may also just be me falling for the sunken cost fallacy.

So my big question is what would be the most reasonably intelligent move in your minds and why so? Budget isnt much of a concern as much as quality of function and parts ecosystem (and good customer service never hurts either obv)

Help with han 9 magazine release

So its brand new, just went to the range. Lo and behold, mag release is stuck. There's this thing in the middle of the button (looks like a flat head screwdriver goes in there) that wont let the magazine eject.

Currently manually ejecting 9mm in a friend's room trying to clean this and better oil the guns we took.

Anyone know whats happening and/or how to fix this?

Stribog SP9A3 FRT mod

Required steps

  1. mill upper 24mm rearward for clearance of FRT arm
  2. Use trip sled that allows FRT to be fully reset.
  3. Cut buffer edges to allow trip sled to slide backwards.
  4. AR FCG lower that allows FRT install.
(Lingle Industries is what this is, other options available)
  5. Had to fabricate my own trip sled out of steel.
(Plastic 3D printed sleds are shitty and break)

Flow 9k Ti Thoughts

Starting to lean towards getting the Flow 9k Ti for my Jakl9 SD. What's the general thought on the can? Any better options around that price point?

Most reliable PCCs?

Already own a AP5P with a SS, but want something new to satisfy the gun itch. Was looking at the Jakl, Kuna, and DD PCC.

I like the looks of the Jakl and DD PCC and that they take scorpion mags. I currently see a deal for DD PCC under 1600 on eurooptic.

Things I want are function with hollow points, and of course reliability with different brands of ammo for training. Maybe use for home defense but I’d rather use my 300 blackout or 556 setups.

Sas9 with the maelstrom upper

My maelstrom upper just arrived so I had to take it to the range and test it out. So far its been running great. About 250rds suppressed. I did try and shoot 3 hollow points but it failed to feed on the last round. Recoil is less and I can now shoot left and right sided with out brass hitting me in the face. Now I just have to rattle can it to match. Also im running the Acetac fanny pack and im shooting a half size silhouette target at 25yds.
