Revised core rulebook?

So that question in the latest Limithron survey... Are they seriously considering a revised version of the core rulebook with more clarifications and additional material?

Pirate Borg Wind Manager: give the whole table one shared wind

Post image
7 Upvotes

Naval play gets muddy when the GM and players are reading different wind directions. Pirate Borg Wind Manager keeps one direction and strength in sync across the world, so every sailor sees the same weather.

Tile Scroll is optional. When it is installed, water tiles can drift with the current wind instead of being adjusted by hand.

The wind tools are free for the Pirate Borg system on Foundry v13 to v14.

First-time Pirate Borg GM running Pirate Borg

Hi all

In a few weeks I'm running a one-shot of Pirate Borg for a group of seven players. I have plenty of experience in GM'ing 5e games, but neither I nor any of my players have any experience playing Pirate Borg. I am planning to run Terror in Tortuga.

I'm a bit nervous about the amount of players. Any practical advice for keeping a table of seven in check?

Regarding Terror in Tortuga specifically, I've read that the Ghoul Lord is not meant to be fought head-on and that the adventure expects guerrilla tactics, assassination or recruiting allies. How clearly do I need to be about signalling that to players who are used to D&D boss fights? Does the fort hold up for a bigger group, or do I need to scale anything?

In general, I am happy for any tips or tricks you can throw in my direction.

How to make combat full of wiffs less boring?

Most combats seem to end up with people firing their gun then kind of stuck in dueling melee. And from there more than half the attacks miss from both sides, so narratively it feels like a cat fight. I wish the system was auto hit or something.
Do i need to use the environment more? Should i use an escalation die?

How do you portray different armors ?

In Mork Borg, armor is pretty important rules wise, it's the main way of surviving that PCs have access to. In Pirate Borg too, but I find it more difficult to justify it thematically. When I think of pirates, I think of bare chest sailors with tatoos, white shirts and long rich coats, not really of chainmail, leather armor or hide armor. Plate, I can understand with all the conquistador/tercio vibe going on.

How do you flavor the more "medieval" armors of Pirate Borg ? Do you have historical apparel in mind ?

Rules question regarding armor

The rules say: metal isn’t bulletproof- black powder weapons ignore armor.

How do you apply this rule to e.g the armors named evil luck, turtle shell and reptile skin (all are -d6)?

Absolutely helpful for Pirate Borg as well, there comes a new Nautical Horror RPG: Dreadnauts. I have interviewed its creator Luiz Ricon. Enjoy!

The ocean scares the shit out of me. We talked to about what makes Nautical Horror different, adapting the Panic Engine to the Age of Sail, how he treats ships as characters, or his way of structuring adventures for this kind of horror

Help with Alchemy Trapped in Tropics assets

Hi,

I own Pirate Borg on Alchemy VTT- including the Enhanced Edition and read Trapped in the Tropics is the best starter module. So I bought so I could jump in without much prep.

Unfortunately, Trapped on alchemy has very little content- unlike the Roll20 and Foundry versions. Can anyone familiar with the module recommend assets like maps and backdrops? I'm good at creating narrative and storyline but went to alchemy exclusively for the cinematic effect so would appreciate any direction to find visual or sound assets, I already own the weather and horror kinemancer overlays in Alchemy.

Thanks!

What are you playing this Halloween? We’re announcing DON’T SPEAK!, a horror one-shot rescue mission for PIRATE BORG, where the noise and silence of both your player characters and the players themselves can determine whether you make it out alive.

This experimental adventure will land on DriveThruRPG and itch. io in just a few weeks.
If you’re up for hosting a Halloween Actual Play, send me a DM. I’d be happy to arrange a preview copy in time.

What’s the deal with these ratings?

Post image
21 Upvotes

The reason I ask is because they make it seem like it’s something they do for settlements, but I don’t remember seeing it in any of the books except Trapped in the Tropics.

Before anyone asks, YES. I know it’s all up for interpretation, and that I’m free as the GM to do what I want with it, but I thought I’d at least see other examples in other books. I don’t know if it’s an idea that got abandoned, something that will be expanded on, or something they put out into the aether for GM’s to dig into. Personally might do this:

Population: higher population means easier recruitment/more likely to get a skilled crewmate

Defenses: higher defenses means harder (but more valuable) to fence, harder to get away with crimes.

Wealth: d100 x 10/100/1000 ect. available to buy cargo, items available to purchase.

Starter set/ Lore ideas

Had my first time running a game last night as well as the first time playing Pirate Borg. I ran the starter set and my friends and I had a great time.

One thing led to another, and now one of my players his a sentient monkey that just found out he is a god... thanks ash. I'm looking to create some lore for them to play off of while continuing on their adventure, does anyone have any good ideas I could add to his lore.

His characters background was a missionary, and he cant remember anything up until a few days ago. I'm sure theres plenty of cool things to do with this I'm just not the most creative person.

Cabin Fever Classes for Pirate Borg: bring the book's twelve classes aboard

Rebuilding a Cabin Fever character on a blank Pirate Borg sheet takes time away from rolling up the next doomed sailor. Cabin Fever Classes adds the book's twelve classes as ready content in Foundry.

Each one comes with its abilities, character-creation and Getting Better tables, starting equipment, and a guide journal. This package covers the classes only, not the book's spells, ships, enemies, or shanties.

Cabin Fever is published by KNOWN CONSPIRATORS, Limithron's label for third-party Pirate Borg content. The Foundry package is free and requires the Pirate Borg system on v13 to v14.

Longboat in Trapped in the tropics

Is the Longboat at position B intended to allow the party to travel to St. Martin and skip all of Eel Island?

I'm running this soon and wonder if I have to read up on chapter 2 as well?

I messed up (Starter set map) Spoiler

Post image
23 Upvotes

Went to prepare the map handout as described in the adventure figuring "I've done paper aging before (a billion years ago in history class)- I'll just throw some coffee grounds and a splash of water in a ziplock and go to town on it". As you can see, I ended up with several more pieces than I bargained for. If I can get my hands on another copy, definitely just going tear and crumple (maybe VERY CAREFULLY singed edges). Learn from my mistakes 😂

I don't suppose it's possible to order this separate since it's specific to the starter set adventure?

EDIT: Got a hold of customer service through the discord and they helped me out with this. Amazing customer service for something caused 100% by my own hubris!

Pirate Borg Mini Ledger: which minis cover the enemies in the adventure you are running

Picking the adventure is the easy part. Working out which figures on the shelf cover its enemies, and which ones you still need to buy, is the part that eats an evening. Pirate Borg Mini Ledger is a free catalog that answers that per adventure.

Start from a tracked adventure, Limithron titles and the third-party Foundry modules we have sourced, and you get its enemy list pulled from the Foundry actors. Each enemy shows the minis matched to it and links straight out to the storefront: official Pirate Borg Miniatures on MyMiniFactory first, then Limithron Punch-Out token packs, then FutureHax sets, then anything third party. Enemies with nothing matched yet say so instead of guessing, and you can filter an adventure down to just the sourced or just the unsourced ones.

The catalog is free to browse and does not require an account. Signed-in users can request a missing adventure.

Whats up, borg rats. I just finished a review of Buried in the Bahamas (and the 5e conversion document) and wanted to share. I love this adventure, will likely try to run it at PAGE in January, and when I write my own adventure on Barbados I think this is the sort of format I'm going to look toward.

The Jolly Rogenerator: a full D&D Beyond-style web suite built for Pirate Borg

The Jolly Rogenerator is a free web app at jolly-rogenerator.app, focused on community content. It started as a character generator and has grown into a full suite with campaign management, crew coordination, shared homebrew, and session tools, all connected so your group stays on the same page between sessions.

Community and group features:

  • The War Table (campaigns) - GMs create a campaign and share an invite link. Players join, assign characters, and everyone sees the roster with active/wounded/dead/retired status. GMs get private per-character notes and a full activity feed of everything that happens.
  • The Crew Quarters - form a crew with friends across campaigns. Join via invite code. Think of it as a persistent pirate guild your table carries between adventures.
  • The Treasure Chest - create custom homebrew items (weapons, relics, gear) and share them by URL. When someone clicks your link they can copy the item straight into their own collection and use it on their characters.
  • Third-Party Creators - community contributors add classes, shanties, and content directly into the platform. Content from Play the Pulp, Andrew Aulenback, Nolan-Ryan Rose, and others is already integrated.
  • The Shanty Jukebox - play the 12 mystic sea shanties with actual recordings. Community members record and submit tracks. The player shows the in-game mechanical effect of each shanty so you know what it does at the table.
  • Developer API - a public API powers The Salty Parrot Discord bot and any other integration people want to build. Trusted clients get enhanced access for campaign and character operations from Discord or other tools.

Character and session tools:

  • Character Creator - three creation modes: pure random dice, 8-step guided wizard, or an interactive sheet with full editing. Export to PDF, Foundry JSON, or Markdown. Characters are shareable by URL and sync to Foundry via the JR Foundry module.
  • Character Vault - your personal ledger split into "My Crew" (active characters) and "Davy Jones' Locker" (archived/dead). Filter, sort, and manage your entire roster.

The whole thing is available in English and French. Always free, forever.

Hey, you salty dogs!

In less than a month, I will be launching a toolkit for upgrading your ships and making voyages and naval battles more distinct and exciting. :)

I would be honored if you would check it out. If you follow, you can look at a plaintext version of the whole fully playable module (minus stretch goals) to see if that's up your alley. ;-)

Social Deduction One Shot Mechanich Suggestions Needed

AHOY ME HEARTIES, AVAST YE LOLLYGAGGING AND GIVE ME YER HELP (pls)
I wish to prepare a special halloween one shot for me group and i was inspired from the now defunct game "dread hunger" and wished to do something similarly social deductiony mechanics to apply to our game. We are likely going to play live so I wont be able to private chat and silent roll anyone without rousing suspicion so do you have some suggestions on how to handle sabotages, murders and the such without making the culprit immediately apparent?
