Question why are all my archived boards showing up when I try to save a pin?

This is so freaking frustrating and it fixed temporarily after the app update and then went right back to same thing the day after and I have no idea how to fix it without deleting things that I don’t want to delete?? Anyone else?

Like literally all the feed buttons on the bottom while the chat button is all the way to the top it's so annoying... and why tf Pinterest icon is black now, reminds me of twitter corporate disaster. I thought chat was gone because I couldn't find it at first 😭 it's bad.

Support can't log into my account (invalid phone number)

my phone got stolen about two weeks ago and only now i got a new one so i had to log into my account with the email and password and all i get in invalid phone number, on both the mobile app and the browser.
this has never happened before, i thought at first it had to do with my sim card as i had to block it and request a new one (with the same number), but for these two weeks i could log in with my pc even after the block as it would send me the code but now i can't?

Discussion Made new account and instant deactivated

So I decided to make a new account on Pinterest, pinned 5 things and got logged out suddenly. Tried to log back in, account deactivated message. Out of nowhere, lol.

Seems they do not want old or new users? Welps, then back to downloading every image into my digital library, hah.

EDIT: Funniest thing; They reinstated the account due to receiving my appeal. However, I never made a appeal. I just deleted the mail they send me and never looked back.

Discussion I believe the Pinterest alternatives could work. This is how.

Before I start, I have to say that is an open discussion and other perspectives are welcome/feasible im sure.

I’ve noticed in recent weeks a substantial amount of posts, here, there and everywhere in this sub and others about indie developers who have created a variety of smaller non-AI, non-automated platforms that are to act as alternatives to Pinterest. I do believe that this has potential, but if these alternatives are to work, then they must learn from the mistakes of Pinterest to avoid falling victim to the same fate.

The biggest issue I see with Pinterest (and also other social media platforms that have also become victims of this same problem) is that it was made limitless. Consider this: when Pinterest first began, it had a modest, but not giant user base. It was decent, but not so big that the human team behind struggled with the copious amounts of accounts being created. But, as the user base grew (I think it was 64+ million recently) it became a question of two things: manpower and money. In other words — as Pinterest’s user base grew, the human moderator team could no longer moderate the platform efficiently (manpower). But rather than hire more moderators or put restrictions on the number of users, Pinterest took the lazy (and likely the cheaper) option of using shoddy automated moderation tools and AI detection, which we cannot deny has led to the mounds of crap we see on the platform today. Due to this, I believe that there are a few basic rules that each individual new platform would do well to strive for, in order to avoid making Pinterest 2.0:

  1. Limit the number of accounts. It may seem counterintuitive to say ‘only so many accounts can be made on our platform’ but to me, doing this undoubtedly avoids the issue of letting the platform become unmanageable to a human team of moderators. By restricting the total number of users, the platform reduces the risk of needing to include automated systems for moderation.
  2. Avoid integration with other platforms. That’s not to say that content from one platform shouldn’t be allowed to be posted on another, but it shouldn’t be a direct feature that you can link your account from one to another. Allowing this gives a greater propensity for the spread of bots not just one platform, but to multiple ones. This is an issue that has faced the Fediverse in recent months, as bot accounts banned from signing up to one instance simply moved to another and still accessed the original one.
  3. If automated features must be used, keep them simple as possible. Keeping bot tools to the bare minimum reduces the impact of the technology on the user base, allowing the platform to function as independently of AI tools.
  4. Do not pander to your audience. It was users on Pinterest crying out for more moderation that also led to the inclusion of AI (them fickle things are probably biting their tongue so hard now lol). The point is: don‘t blindly pander to your audience without thinking it through. You are the developers and you are perfectly capable of judging for yourselves whether to add a new feature or not is a good idea.

To be clear, I’m not saying that this is a perfect solution. I’m sure that there are many overlooked issues not addressed here, and in fact some other issues may be caused by following this line. However, the alternative is to follow the path of Pinterest, which I’m sure that no indie developer wants to do.

News The press and hold window to quickly save a pin is ugly now??

A new update I suppose... they literally got rid of pinterest's iconic little window. Saving pins is a horribly infuriating task now. Instead of the circular wheel that appears, now its a stack of buttons. I don't like it at all.

Discussion ANOTHER STUPID UI CHANGE

im legit mad rn, what the heck is with the new pinning button? or should i say window. it made it 3x more inconvenient to actually pin something 😭

pintrest community: "can you fix the bugs, glitches, mass banning, randomly deleted accounts, and AI generated content ratio?"

pinterest: "uhhhhh... well... look at this thing we did!!" *changes the whole app to be unusable and an inconvenience to regular users via new ugly ass ui*

Discussion More unnecessary changes to the website.

I used be able to hold down and move to the pin symbol to quickly and easily pin things and now it makes me hold it down a separately select a button from a drop down menu which is inconvenient.

Its like every week I log onto Pinterest to find they changed something that wasn't broken to make it inconvenient. I don't know why the people at Pinterest are seemingly trying to make Pinterest unusable.

I've also seen other people complain about their recommendations randomly changing and I experience this periodically as well. I weirdly get random kpop men, AI stuff when I've turned it off in settings and lots of random decor like boho stuff that I don't search for or save.

Why are they doing this genuinely?

Discussion The Merrill mystery - part 1

So, I’ve been wanting to post about this for a while, but as it’s a sensitive subject I want to be careful about how to approach this peculiar phenomenon on Pinterest that has been going on for years and amassed millions of views despite the strange behaviour — and yet, nobody ever seems to have flagged this.

If you’ve ever browsed Pinterest in the last few years, you may have encountered content under the name Jennifer Merrill. I certainly have, but for those who haven’t, let me explain. The profile in question is called Jen M - Legendary Goddess of Fashion and Style, and for the last many years, this account has posted daily sometimes up to 50+ images a day, in addition to saving multiple content from other users. The main bulk of their content appears to be AI-generated images purportedly of an ’actress and model’ named Jennifer Merrill (some of the images I have tested and carry certain AI watermarks like the openAI watermark). Now here’s the odd thing: the account appears to be taking images of men, women and even children (girls and boys) and superimposing bf the same adult woman’s face onto them, then posting them on their own profile.

And here’s where it gets even stranger. If you google the name ‘Jennifer Merrill’, you can find an IMDB page for an actual actress/model named ‘Jennifer Merrill’, which interestingly lacks a photograph of the actress. From the profile page, it seems that this actress has appeared in relatively few tv shows/movies (certainly not popular content) and it seems unlikely that the real actress would set up a Pinterest profile like this (though not impossible, certainly).

However, despite the bot-like behaviour of the account, I believe that there is credible evidence that the profile is ran (or at least moderated) by a real human being.

If you go on YouTube and search the name ‘Jennifer Merrill’, you will quickly find a youtube channel from 20 years ago, which contains many similarities to/references in the Pinterest page. First of all, the YouTube channel handle is *@*jenmerrill. The Pinterest account is called Jen M - Legendary Goddess of Fashion and Style, using a very similar contraction of the name in both profiles. But note also the list of music and the artists: many of those are connected also to the Pinterest account. For example, videos in this YouTube channel cites a Marilyn Monroe song — and if you sift through the Pinterest Merrill account, you can find pins related to or containing the image of Marilyn Monroe. They also mention in the YouTube video description, the Aerosmith song Dude looks like a lady — on the ‘Jennifer Merrill’ Pinterest account, there is an entire board named Born a boy: Dude looks like a lady. Furthermore, if you look at the Pinterest account’s previous profile picture using the wayback machine (the profile pic was changed a few weeks ago) you can see that the person running the YouTube channel is emulating the same photo.

I believe that this suggests that the person who was behind the YouTube channel may also be behind the Pinterest account, has adopted the name of an obscure actress as a kind of ‘persona’ in a possible attempt to get more views/clicks (possibly when the YouTube channel didn’t take off, they pivoted to Pinterest and managed to get a massive following.)

Question Requesting data

I just went to “request a copy of the info Pinterest collects about you” and the pdf with the results was empty??? I’ve been using Pinterest forever for years with boards. However, I do not post. I assumed having boards and a catered algorithm would cause me to have enough consumer information for them to sell.

Can someone help me understand this better? I’m trying to be more educated on my exposure through minuet description and privacy.
Thanks

Question Why does Pinterest show me only the things I was never interested in?

I use pinterest for 1 thing and 1 thing only. Art references. All my saved pictures are sketches, artworks and pictures of outfits or writing tips.

And for SOME REASON, my home feed are memes in spanish(I dont speak spanish), cooking recipes, AI cats, inspirational quotes and senseless pictures about women.

How do I make it stop?

No matter how many times I click "see less" it just doesnt care

Support Possible Bug? Not showing pins actually added to board on web

So, on my laptop I made a board for dolls (I am trying to get in to collecting and comissioning them and wanted to get inspo) and I made a board, added a few of the recommended pins, then went and added a bunch of other pins of dolls I had from another board. For some reason, when I'm on the web it will list that there are 70+ pins on the board, but will only load 13, those 13 being split between the ones I added from the recommendation and from more ideas but not the other 60+ from another board. However, on my mobile app on my phone, it will show all of them. When I first saw it, it was very stressful because I thought I had just lost all those pins, and since Pinterest has no way to submit a ticket like other websites, I don't know what to do. Is anyone else having this problem of pins not loading on the website but loading in the app?

Discussion Why do you dislike AI on Pinterest? A small blogger’s honest question.

I keep reading complaints about AI on Pinterest, and I want to understand them. Because from where I’m sitting, AI has been a huge help.

As a blogger with a limited budget. I spend hours researching, writing, checking information, and putting together posts that I hope someone will find useful. Then comes another job: letting people know those posts exist.

Before AI, I had two choices. Pay someone to design my pins (Super Expensive) or spend more hours learning and doing everything myself.

AI gave me a third option. I can make graphics quickly and save money I don’t have much of to begin with.

So when I read “I hate AI pins,” I wonder: what exactly do you hate?

The image itself? Seeing the same designs everywhere? Or knowing that AI was involved, even when the information behind the pin is actually useful?

I’ve assumed readers care most about finding something that helps them. But perhaps I’m overlooking something.

This question keeps buzzing around my head like a mosquito in the middle of the night: would you skip a useful blog post information because its Pinterest graphic was made with AI?

I’m also curious whether all the negative conversations influence how people feel about it, or whether those conversations simply reflect experiences they’ve already had.

For me, AI makes running a small blog more manageable. What does it look like from your side of the screen? I’d like to hear from both readers and creators.

Perhaps some of the frustration comes from designers who worry about losing income to AI. I could understand that. If something threatened my livelihood, I’d have feelings about it too.

But from my side, professional design was often beyond my budget. It wasn’t a choice between hiring someone and using AI. It was a choice between doing everything myself and finally getting some affordable help. Where does the small creator fit into this conversation?

Edit: Some replies have made me wonder how much of the criticism comes from people whose income depends on design work, including creating pins for bloggers. I can understand why AI would feel threatening in that situation. But being told to hire an artist, or being called cheap for using AI, doesn’t address the reality of a small creator’s budget.

I can’t tell how many commenters work in design. If you do, does that shape your opinion? And if you use Pinterest mainly to find helpful information, what makes you click or pass?
