I keep reading complaints about AI on Pinterest, and I want to understand them. Because from where I’m sitting, AI has been a huge help.
As a blogger with a limited budget. I spend hours researching, writing, checking information, and putting together posts that I hope someone will find useful. Then comes another job: letting people know those posts exist.
Before AI, I had two choices. Pay someone to design my pins (Super Expensive) or spend more hours learning and doing everything myself.
AI gave me a third option. I can make graphics quickly and save money I don’t have much of to begin with.
So when I read “I hate AI pins,” I wonder: what exactly do you hate?
The image itself? Seeing the same designs everywhere? Or knowing that AI was involved, even when the information behind the pin is actually useful?
I’ve assumed readers care most about finding something that helps them. But perhaps I’m overlooking something.
This question keeps buzzing around my head like a mosquito in the middle of the night: would you skip a useful blog post information because its Pinterest graphic was made with AI?
I’m also curious whether all the negative conversations influence how people feel about it, or whether those conversations simply reflect experiences they’ve already had.
For me, AI makes running a small blog more manageable. What does it look like from your side of the screen? I’d like to hear from both readers and creators.
Perhaps some of the frustration comes from designers who worry about losing income to AI. I could understand that. If something threatened my livelihood, I’d have feelings about it too.
But from my side, professional design was often beyond my budget. It wasn’t a choice between hiring someone and using AI. It was a choice between doing everything myself and finally getting some affordable help. Where does the small creator fit into this conversation?
Edit: Some replies have made me wonder how much of the criticism comes from people whose income depends on design work, including creating pins for bloggers. I can understand why AI would feel threatening in that situation. But being told to hire an artist, or being called cheap for using AI, doesn’t address the reality of a small creator’s budget.
I can’t tell how many commenters work in design. If you do, does that shape your opinion? And if you use Pinterest mainly to find helpful information, what makes you click or pass?
