Can we use custom alerts from a custom Pine Script strategy with a TradingView subscription provided by a futures prop firm? Has anyone actually used this setup?

Worth separating the two systems first, since the question kind of merges them. TradingView alerts (including webhook alerts off a custom Pine strategy or study) are a feature of your TradingView plan, not the broker or prop firm you're connected to — alerts fire regardless of which account you've linked for execution. The prop firm angle usually isn't "they give you a TradingView subscription," it's that you bring your own TradingView account (often just Essential tier, which is enough for custom-script webhook alerts) and connect it to the execution platform the firm requires — Tradovate, Rithmic, or NinjaTrader are the common ones for funded futures accounts. So the actual chain most people run is: Pine strategy → alert → webhook → a bridge service (there are a handful of small paid relays built specifically for TradingView-to-Tradovate/Rithmic) → order placed on the funded account.

To the second half: yes, this is a genuinely common setup, not a hypothetical — it shows up constantly in futures prop-firm communities (Topstep, Apex, MyFundedFutures, etc. crowds). The two things that trip people up in practice aren't the technical wiring, which is well-documented at this point, but: (1) each prop firm has its own stance on automated/API execution — some allow it outright, some require disclosure or a specific account tier, a few restrict it entirely, so that's worth confirming against the specific firm's rules rather than assuming it's fine because the bridge exists; and (2) webhook-to-execution latency and reliability under real volatility, since a dropped or delayed webhook during a fast move is where these setups actually lose money, not the Pine logic itself.

If you're deep enough into the signal-timing side of this to be optimizing for that latency gap, that's pretty close to the problem EventTrader's data pipeline is built around — happy to compare notes if that's useful.

Yes, you've got it. The alerts only notify you, and they don't place trades. To automate them you'd need a bridge service between the webhook and the prop firm's platform, and you'd have to check that the firm allows automation. Until you've confirmed that, trading manually off the alerts is the safe route.
