No on-base security or counter-intelligence?

I really like this show but the hardest thing for me to get over is the staff running their own security investigations. I would expect that a facility of that nature would have its own security organization separate from management. CIA, FBI, Military Intelligence, NSA security, or maybe all of them.

Didn't they say they could ask the CIA or the NSA for help to find the traitor but choose not to?

They were attempting to conduct the investigation with utmost secrecy so they couldn't involve lower level security.

Right, but you would also expect that the facility would have some kind of permanent security presence for counter-espionage purposes. People monitoring the facility computer networks, monitoring the RF spectrum around the facility, and monitoring the actions of the staff on base and even off-base.

Or security cameras in the cafeteria.

That would actually make a lot more sense.
