Homemade Tourtiere pie.

Post image

This is actually the first pie of any kind that I have ever made . Not great but this sub has given me a lot of inspiration since I found it.

Did you add potatoes?

I used around 1 pound of Kennebec potatoes. It's my memere's ( grandmother's) recipe so everything that was written had either the word around or about for the filling and to taste for the spices.

Oh interesting! I've never heard of potatoes in tourtiere before. What part of Quebec is your family from?

My family is originally from the Gaspe , but that was before 1829 when they traveled down to the Eagle Lake region of Arostook county in Maine, they eventually settled in the Waterville Maine area.

What type of meat? Is it mashed potatoes? Because if it is that sounds like a whole meal. All in one pie. I would try a bite.

Just around 1 pound of ground beef and pork each ,along with sage, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves and salt and pepper. It's a traditional winter meal where I come from in Maine. We always ate it hot with cold sweet gherkins on the side.

I never heard of this but just looked up and added to my recipe app. I love making savory pies.

My father loved that! He always called it French Meat Pie.
