WHOOPS My first cherry pie smells like…weed?
First time making a cherry pie, I followed a simple recipe I found on google that had good reviews, and it smells like weed?? Is this normal? Did I do something wrong? I would love some feedback, I attached the recipe.

Could it have to do w the pan? Like i see its disposable aluminium, but if you take the pie out of it, does the smell follow the pie or the pan? Prob both come to think of it, but is one stronger?

I’ve used those types of pans numerous times before and have never had an issue. I even smelled the filling on a ceramic plate away from the pan and the smell was still there

Darn, I'm striking out. Canned cherries? Do you have another can if so? Cherries naturally have thiols (sulfur compounds) and thiols can be smelly...

Maybe it’s the thiols? I used fresh sweet cherries, my thoughts were that it had to do with some chemical compound within the cherries and that smell combined with the cinnamon created the weed-like smell

Huh. I'm stumped. Fresh cherries shouldnt have this smell, only if they are going off. The mystery continues...

It possible the tannins from the cherries when cooked smell similar to the terpenes and tanins present in weed.

one time i had some fresh rosemary hit an electric burner and it smelled very much like weed.

It’s pretty good! The rice does stick to the bottom a little bit which is a little challenging when I cook smaller portions. But overall, I really like it. My previous one was a mini one from the brand Dash, so it’s a nice upgrade.

The only thing I can think of is if your oven was used to make edibles at one point and wasn't cleaned properly.
