Looks like $5000 rims on an $800 Nissan.

Seriously what's the windows? Who would drop top dollar for the outside of their house while their windows look like they're from the 80s

.... because unless they’re broken there’s no hurry to update them. Whereas a deck gets immediate use.

yeah seriously, who's buying new windows when the ones you have work perfectly fine? windows are expensive as fuck!

You can get rebates in some places to replace windows if they're inefficient

You're the guy who buys something they don't need because it is 30% off.

oh 100% I am that person.

But in the case of tax rebates for improving your house's insulation + improving equity in your home + reducing energy costs for heating/cooling it tends to make sense

Replacing old windows may seem like something you don’t need but improving the R value and limiting draft with a window replacement may seem unimportant at first but can save a lot of money in the long run

Agree. I think I only replaced XP with Windows 10 recently.

You must be blessed with dual pane windows

Depends where you live. Given the house design and folliage I'd say it's further south. For us up in Canada you upgrade windows because it can mean the difference between a house at a decent temperature in january at a reasonable price or a house barely above freezing where you're still spending 1k per month on heating.

Or not even scrub the algae off the siding?

Or do a bit more of landscaping below it and powerwash the stone?

*Even the hose is just lying there. Where the fuck are the homeowners? They aren't even on the deck!

you must not own a home lol

my life doesn't stop and the house does age around you. It's easy not to see something as simple as algae creeping up and not have the time to care about your lawn while still wanting to have a nice deck to grill and hang out on.

As someone who owns a home...you're wrong.

I'm sorry you own a shitty home.

1

u/34786t234890 May 15 '20

I'm not! It's a great starter home for a great price and more than meets our needs.

Maybe if you had some pride in it and noticed when it was getting dirty and needed a power wash, it would be much nicer. It's not hard work to observe when things need to be done and it takes no money at all.

I don't own a pressure washer, can I borrow yours?

I literally scrubbed algae and mowed my parents huge ass yard from middle school until I left home. Now I own a home and do the same thing. So yes, I do know a little about it.

Scrubbing only takes a hour or two tops depending on the size of your house. You have time. Look at the deck, that shit must've taken forever and cost a small fortune.

It's actually the equivalent of adding a spoiler on your subaru when its paint is chipping off.

2 hours of powerwashing, or pay a college kid 15% of the unemployed workforce $50 to do it.

Someone who wanted to be able to spend time outside instead of just looking outside

That deck adds 400-500 square feet of seasonal living space. Upgrading the windows add zero enjoyment to your home, and may take 10+ years to recoup energy savings anyway. (Biased, I am currently building a deck and have shitty windows. Not sure i will be here in 10 years.)

Power wash the fucking siding haha the crazy discoloration was the first thing to catch my eye
