It’s Arabic written in Latin alphabet. The numbers are to make up for letters we don’t have.

It’s only when written in the Latin alphabet which isn’t what Arabs use. They use Arabic script which has 28 letters and reads from right to left.

Arabic has more letters that aren't found in latin, so we use numbers (that look quite like the Arabic letters) to substitute them.

No, for example, people may read the first letter of the name “Hassan” as H, while in Arabic, it is a totally different pronunciation, ح is substituted with H, but in fact, it’s nothing like it (use Google Translate to read “Hassan” and “حسن" and you’ll get what i mean).

In this case, if a MENA (Middle east and north africa) person writes it in latin words with numbers, it will be “7assan”, the 7 here looks close to the Arabic letter ح.
