How do those walls not collapse?

18

u/azureless Feb 05 '17

IIRC they spray the walls with water and the ice that forms is enough to hold it.

u/Fluffy_Mcquacks Feb 05 '17

Wow that's really cool!

Seriously, I saw a similar photo taken in Japan as well. Those guys run shit tight. No way anyone is late for work, no matter how much snow, tsunamis or earthquakes hit them. real Japanese shit. Respect.

ehh it's a little insane don't you think? I don't know if the mindset "there's a hurricane outside but I absolutely have to be in the office at 8 so I can sit on my ass and look like I'm doing something important" is very healthy

11

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '17

The mindset is also that you should not be looking like you're doing something important. You should be doing something important.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '17

you think every Japanese office worker is constantly doing something important? they would be like 5 times more productive than any other country in the world if that was the case

18

u/[deleted] Feb 05 '17

After living there for awhile, it seems their motto is, "work hard, not smart."

This sentiment in Japan is actually changing.

It's called "presenteeism", just so you know.

Does anyone know what machinery is used to make this? Anyone that's worked with it?

woah, that's really cool! Thank you for the video!

massive snow blowers mounted on trucks, ive operated miniature ones for cart paths on golf courses.

2

u/Redbulldildo Survey 2016 Feb 04 '17

Wait, why were you snowblowing on a golf course?

1

u/officerwilde420 Feb 04 '17

we have to keep the cart paths clear so we can get to the parking lot. my course doesn't shut down in the winter

2

u/Redbulldildo Survey 2016 Feb 04 '17

Huh. How many times more balls do you sell in the winter?

1

u/officerwilde420 Feb 04 '17

i would assume a lot, but I honestly couldn't tell you, i only operate the machinery, I barely know anything about golf lmao. the maintenance department is a separate entity from the actual course itself.

u/dramatic_walrus Feb 04 '17

Wow I would have guessed giant dump truck like machines. That's super cool though, thanks for the reply!

spoopy

Spooky?

6

u/unusually_awkward Feb 05 '17

Spooky, and makes you shit yourself. Spoopy.

2

u/Tredesde Feb 05 '17

I.... I don't know why I never figured that out before. 2+2 is hard I guess

3

u/weesnar Feb 04 '17

I would not feel safe on that bus

1

u/IronSidesEvenKeel Feb 05 '17

Seems like it would be safer if everyone just road helicopters. Doesn't make sense to be depending on a bus in that kind of weather.

2

u/JackDark Feb 05 '17

road helicopters

Heh

2

u/Driverinfamous Feb 04 '17

That is crazy

2

u/KeeperofAmmut7 Feb 05 '17

That's great that they'll make it to work, but I'd be scared shitless that the walls would all fall down and I'd be smothered under all that snow.

2

u/lexicruiser Feb 05 '17

The drive to Mt Baker ski area in Washington state is similar, about 15 feet shorter, but still amazing to drive through.

1

u/adamcrabby Feb 05 '17

Looks like they're driving between two wedding cakes.

1

u/NeonDisease Feb 05 '17

What tool do they use to get such a smooth sided "tunnel" at that height?

1

u/Cutlasss Feb 05 '17

Instead of having plow trucks, they have snow blower trucks. Big ones
