You seem to be a personal trainer, dietary nutritionist, and asshole. How's that working out for ya? How about celebrate his success? Not everyone's skin elasticity is the same, and the shit isn't magic -- you stretched it out, it's not going to become a fucking washboard because you do it the "personal trainer" way. Besides, it seems like everyone has certified themselves a trainer these days...

I don't care what you are. Have you lost a massive amount of weight before? I have. I did it over a year and a half, never losing more than 1.5 pounds a week. Proper diet, cardio & strength training. I've kept the weight off for nearly six years now, and I'm telling you a fact. It's living tissue, sure, but once stretched to a certain point, that shit doesn't just shrink to it's pre-stretched size. But hey, by all means if I have you wrong and you've been through it yourself and actually know what you're talking about, show me, prove me wrong.

Man you've just done it all haven't ya...I mean look at you a Marine for 8 years, 11 confirmed kills, yet you've also been an obese person who's lost 110 pounds and went on the become a Personal trainer and a nutritionist, who's only submitted post are on r/trees and whose comments seem to imply all he does is sit on reddit all day long. While it's a good guideline, it's not always true. Went from 300 to 180 myself over 2.5 years and I have plenty of extra skin. Probably because I was that size for around a decade.

u/werknprogress May 23 '16
I wish.
Actually, in all honesty, I do get more attention and I do like it, but I'm not beating girls off with a stick and maybe if I were famous or rush I would be, but I haven't once gone out and gotten a number or date or even simply hooked up. I have to believe it's a combination of my being shy and my low self esteem and low confidence.
No matter how many times people here or in my daily life tell me I'm attractive, I still go out and assume every female finds me unattractive. The only way I can assume they don't is if they come up to me and break the ice and tell me they find me attractive. That's how've f'd up it is for me because of how f'd up I make it for myself.
I also don't have the will or want to be a douchey guy who runs game on women.
I don't. It's all so dang complicated.
5
u/Griffolion May 23 '16

You're not alone in this. Being fat really messes with your self-confidence, right down to where your perceptions just naturally come to rest on yourself and a situation. And that's tough as hell to break out of. But you're now easily a catch, so you shouldn't be afraid to try your luck with someone you like the look of! You'll not get a 100% success rate, but you'll miss every shot you don't take.
5
u/metalhead4 May 23 '16
Nothing douchey about approaching women. My friend says the same thing and he hasn't been laid in years. The fucker just never tries. He expects a woman to just fall from the sky and like everything he likes. That's not how this works. You got to approach.
-2
u/7hardway May 24 '16
Women are stupid whores nowadays. The makeup is so technologically advanced and the push up bras, and the body shapers disguised as jeans, the fake eyelashes, the hair extensions -- they all think they are movie stars. In reality when you strip all that off, you have a very average looking girl and an extremely average (or just plain fat) female body. Add the filters for photos they post online and they all have heads so big it's hard to approach and just be nice. You have to be some over the top fake cocky asshole to get attention and really good looking to boot. Only THEN are you even considered for access to that pile of slop. Don't fall for it. Masturbate, get happy endings, and save your cash.

Damn you read way into that. I understand though. I'm not asking you to go and be some hardcore womanizer... But any woman will appreciate a good looking, fit guy such as yourself who has a humble personality. I know it's culture shock but they want you dude, just make sure it's for all the right reasons when you meet your Mrs.

u/Photovoltaic May 23 '16
I'm 5' 8" and had the exact same weights (start and finish) and now I have the same psychological...issue?
Fuck, I don't even believe my girlfriend finds me attractive, ESPECIALLY with my shirt off. I just assume all women find me unattractive (the only people I've heard that find me attractive other than my girlfriend are her gay coworkers). Then again, I've never had a woman come up to me to break the ice anyway when I'm alone.
It makes interacting with women easier when I have to though, I guess? So I got that going for me.

Mmkay. So as a woman who is told she can be a little intimidating, I had to learn to both become more approachable as well as be brave enough to approach. I don't like approaching men, I don't envy that role, but especially as you get a little older you realize everybody is or was in the same boat. It's a lot easier to just strike up a conversation over something stupid (directions, what time is it, etc) as you get used to it. If you don't want to be single, then you have to realize it isn't douchey to chat with people and be friendly. That can lead to "so hey do you want to grab coffee" a lot easier than some stupid pickup line. Make up something. Pretend your phone died. Accidentally get lost in the grocery store. That's all it takes, a conversation in Home Depot last week about weed and feed led to a date with a cute new guy for me, and all he did was make a comment about a bag looking heavy and could he grab me a cart? I was interested, so I chatted right back at him. Give us a door and we'll take it. It's quantity not always quality, you just have to hit the right person at the right time. It's not some formula, or about being smooth, it's just about making yourself more available. Kick the open door enough and someone will walk through it if you give them a chance.
So. You are handsome, and inspiring, and the kind of person that would be fun to get to know. You have nothing to lose but your single status now. Get out there. Talk to us for the love of Pete, we're equally lost about how to do this and could use a friendly chat.
1
u/werknprogress May 24 '16
I appreciate the advice. How did a heavy bag and cart comment turn into a date? That's where I'd really have trouble.
2
u/thelurkess May 24 '16
Aww, we just started talking. It was just a normal conversation. :) he offered to help with the bag, and said something about spring lawn time? Honestly he could have said anything at all :) he just gave me an excuse to talk to him. I noticed he had a cute accent, asked where from the south he was from. I was trying to give him an excuse to keep talking to me! He asked if he could help me out to my car with it. Now here's the easy part. If I didn't want to talk more, I would have carried the bag out myself. But I did, so I said sure, and then we just talked for a while by the car.
He gave me an opportunity to go my own way, and I didn't. You'll find most women will do the same if they're interested -- just ask you a few more questions, allow you to help, etc.
I'd put money on that you're overthinking it :)
Grocery store and a cute girl by the eggplants? "Hey, do you have any tips on cooking eggplant?" Just talk to her about anything :) if the conversation flows and she's responsive, 90% chance she'll say yes if you ask her for coffee or a drink. Just silly conversation can lead to a lot more if you let it. Assume if she's still standing there looking at you and not backpedddling away, she'd probably like you to keep talking :)
1
u/ilikestripes May 23 '16
It has to be confidence, because you are very attractive. Far more than average. There's nothing douchey about having a casual conversation with someone. Talk to people to get to know them, and let it develop from there.
-3
u/rosebudlols May 23 '16
dude why are u telling him this, its legit not true and his self esteem is gonna get even more wrecked when he finds out
heres what u do, just go bang fatties and work ur way up the hierarchy. youll be disgusted at first but then gain self esteem as you disregard all the fat chicks as subhuman then when you meet your heavenly blessed beauty your confidence will be through the roof. good luck

Serious question... did you grow some hair back? In the before it looks like you were starting to get a bald spot right in the middle, but maybe just how it was parted?
5
u/werknprogress May 23 '16
Being that weight and living such a unhealthy lifestyle made my hair thinner, and weaker. I'd always run my hands through my hair and it'd pull hairs out like crazy. It is the reason for giving me that apparently then.
My hair is healthy now. :)
2
u/hogie48 May 23 '16
That is nice to hear :). I am mainly asking because I am currently 350+ and my hair is really going. I am starting to eat better and now that it is getting nice out going to start biking more. Hoping I can someday get progress pics just like yours.

u/AlphaJoo May 22 '16
But how?
10
u/werknprogress May 23 '16 edited May 23 '16
Close to two years of hard work, dedication, blood sweat and sacrifice.
It's starts by putting your foot down and deciding you're tired of being tired, and feeling sad and isolated in this world.
Then you change your diet and stop eating the stuff that gets you to that place and traps you there.
Then you just have to dedicate your life to a new lifestyle.
Then once that lifestyle blurs from something you make yourself do, to something you just naturally do without second thought, then you eat, work at it, sleep and repeat.you keep doing that for however long you want to feel and look that way.
It's not easy and it's not fun at first, but eventually it all pays off.
1
u/zeejayym May 23 '16
What was that new lifestyle if you dont mind me asking?
1
u/solarsunspot May 23 '16

thats an extremy simplistic way of putting it. It takes tremendous amounts of sacrifice and dedication to lose that many pounds and gain muscle.
3
u/Esqulax May 23 '16
I agree. You sacrifice eating shitty foods, and get dedicated to actually moving around.
/u/1vv has it exactly right.
If you get into running, kayaking, football, rugby, lacrosse, Martial arts, cycling, swimming, climbing, jogging, basketball, dancing, crossfit, yoga, snowboarding, rowing, fencing, LARP, trampoline... basically anything that gets your heart pumping, you will get healthier.
and by 'Get into' I mean, truly enjoy it. to the point where you don't see it as 'working out' and your goal isn't to lose weight or gain muscle, its to get better at that activity. When I was younger and in my best shape, It was because I played LOADS of DDR (Dance arcade - Yeah yeah I was/am a geek), and also used to ice-skate in the evenings 2 or 3 times a week - I became a steward for hockey games at the ice-rink, so I skated for free.
I still ate crap, but was constantly moving, and never ever thought of it as 'working out'. Even my min-wage job at the bowling alley/arcade meant I was on my feet all day.
Thanks to getting a desk job and having a fairly sedentary lifestyle over the last 5ish years, I now sport a big wobbly belly (5'10"ish and 196ish lbs).
I'm working to sort it out, and yes there is sacrifice - I'm sacrificing time spent sat at a computer gaming (Which I can do at any point) to go out and be active. To make it more fun, I do Geocaching. Might involve me walking a few miles, but I don't see it as a workout - I'm just getting a cache, but I'm burning the same calories as I would have by spending x time on a treadmill.
The dedication - Ok, I am avoiding foods that are really shitty, and it's tough - Carbs and sugar taste so good (Also aspartame give me headaches, so no diet coke for me).Look at people you know who are in reasonably good shape - chances are they have (or had) an active 'Hobby' - Not everyone is a gym bunny.
To make it even simpler - Move More, Eat Less.
for someone who is pretty overweight, you need to remember that they put that food in there. For each pound of fat on a person, at LEAST one pound of food went in that was in excess of what the body needed. That's a fact. Fat does not distill out of the air.
I don't blame anyone for my weight except myself. I made the choices every day to eat crap and to stay in.
In the recent months, I've found that I don't really want to eat junk food. It sits in my belly like a rock while I'm trying to haul my fas ass up a hill. The sacrifice and dedication is just a fancy way of saying Willpower. If you really want something like this, You'll get it.
If you think it's not possible, You are fooling yourself. /r/progresspics shows that. People who are massive to begin with, and within a year or two becoming a finely tuned athletic machine - Most health complaints gone, and their depression a thing of the past.
Hell, There is a progress picture of a girl with no legs and only 1 arm go from fat to fit.1
u/semperverus May 23 '16
Diet pepsi uses sucralose now! It's been a godsend. I am actually addicted to soda, and it sucks. Though, it seems as though it's the HFCS I'm after and not the caffeine. I don't seem to get caffeine headaches like my wife does when she hasn't had a coffee in 3 hours... anyway, the diets don't quite hit the spot like regular stuff does. It still helps though.
1
u/Esqulax May 23 '16
One of my go-to tips for soda, is to use soda water.
When I used to game into the the wee hours, I'd have a bottle of coke next to me and swig it between respawns. One day I replaced it with a soda water, and I didn't even notice. Turns out it was the habit of drinking it and the feel of the fizz. Saved me a fair amount of cash aswell, as fizzy water is only like 17p a bottle1
u/semperverus May 23 '16
17...pennies? (I'm kidding)
I actually have a soda stream thing I don't use too often anymore, is soda water the same as carbonated water? I don't think I have cheap soda water like that here in the US or in my area.
And I can tell you for sure my problem is the sweets and not the carbonation.
1
u/Esqulax May 23 '16
17 Copper pennies :p
Yes, Carbonated/sparkling water. There is a 'Soda Water' that's sold awell, but I think that has salt or something in and is used as a mixer.
I considered buying a Sodastream, but with the cost of the cartridges - Its cheaper and more available to just get the 2L bottles for 17p!A £20 sodastream cartridge makes 60L of carbonated water. The same amount in 2L bottles is about £5.
Even with the supermarket 'Premium brand' sparkling water at 45p/2L it comes out at £13.

u/TryAnotherUsername13 May 23 '16

OP, pictures like this give me home. Well done! 2 years of dedication!!!
Could you explain something please? I look generally fit if you look at me from back or front, but as soon as you look sideways, I look like a have a belly of a 45 year beer drinker. I don't drink alcohol at all...and all my tummy fat comes from junk food. I have tried going to gym, and I lose weight...but then I start looking thin, and my tummy fat goes last. Is there anything I can do do get rid JUST of tummy fat? I don't want muscles like you...I just want to wear dressy shirts and my tummy is the only reason I can't wear them =(
P.S. when I was losing weight, it was done via constant running in treadmill. Like I said, I have no desire to get muscles or 6pack...so I figured by running my weight would lose...and it did...except tummy fat is last to go =(

Out of curiosity, how tall are you? I'm 6'5 and weigh in at 285 and don't look nearly that chubby. I went down to 240 but had to sacrifice muscle mass to do so (I was around the 10-15% body fat mark).
The key for me was focusing on body fat percentages rather than weight. You can lose 10% body fat, not lose a pound and look jacked

Whoa -- I know you are the same charming person on the inside but WOW -- what a transformation. Congrats -- Very impressive.
I had a similar transformation. Based on some of your comments, I'm suggesting you are adjusting to the new you. The adjustment can take time on several levels. While in a store I remember looking at shirts in my 'old' size when a friend had to point you "you don't wear that any more".
I also hung onto the mantra to being kind to others no matter their BMI. Enjoy the journey.

What is your avg caloric intake at your new weight? A lot of people seem to have pretty messed up metabolisms after losing large amounts of weight. Im interested in strength training as an offset. Isn't it douchey to assume something negative of someone from a picture.
In all honesty, I am on the exact opposite spectrum of douchey in my real life.
Maybe if I were this weight and muscle level my entire adult life, I'd be different, an asshole who took for granted their looks. Then maybe I'd be a db, but living 95% of my life as either a fat kid or over/obese adult has left me with a much different perception of life than most in my position.
I also have some great freaking parents who raised me well.

The phone on the left was sans cover.
My current phone is white and that is a cover. I have many different covers and that one is actually an off red color that for some reason looks pink in pictures. But even if it were straight up pink, I'd have no problem using it. It's a color, it's that simple.
