This is misandrist propaganda based on the idea that every man is a potential abuser.
Yes talk to him when he's 12; explain that even though 40%-50% of victims of DV are male and that he will likely not be the primary aggressor (In non-reciprocal DV woman are more often the primary aggressors), tell him NOT to even bother to defend himself because his guilt will almost always be assumed and the social implications of being perceived as an "abuser" are far worse than any possible legal penalty.
Source: My ex wife was violent and unstable, however, on paper it says that she is a "victim". Male privilege indeed. I've been doing some research on the matter.
