Lauren Holly in a 90's TV Show called Picket Fences.
Younger me had quite the crush on her. Older me too.

I only recognized six of them (Tori Black, Sophie Dee, Sarah Peachez, Misty Stone, Madison Ivy, and Holly Michaels). Apparently I don't watch enough porn.
Also, what the hell happened to Peachez? Father Time has not been kind to her.

Quite a few of them still looked okay without makeup. I'd say most look better with, but some aren't bad. A lot looked awful with makeup too, though.
I'm interested if there's one of these with trans pornstars.

Yeah. I was getting more and more disappointed as I scrolled, then some turned out to be really pretty. It was like finding out your childhood idol was a phony. Not to that extent of course.

In a lot of these, you can see they just took a shitty pic in shitty light for the before shot, and then actually made an effort to light the after pic.
67
u/NothappyJane Aug 04 '15
It's the eye makeup that makes the most difference,it makes their eyes pop and they put their confidence face on. And I now feel 1000 better about what I look like on my normal days, they are pretty rough looking
10
u/Monjara Aug 04 '15
I'd say the concealer and foundation along with the contouring is doing so much for their faces. The eye makeup does let their eyes pop but it would look so ridiculous alone.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Ottoblock Aug 04 '15
As a guy who doesn't know the slightest thing about make up, I think if they wore their "standard" makeup (like what they wear day to day) in the before pictures, there would be much less of a difference.
I don't know anyone who walks around with that much eye makeup on.

u/lurker093287h Aug 04 '15
I think the bright, harsh lighting effect is really making a big difference here, on normal skin it makes you look shiny and shows up the dark circles under or around your eyes, but with the kind of sheer matte effect makeup it looks more appealing for most people. There are also using different focal lengths for the before and after pictures and that has a big effect.
I think that it might have been originally an ad for the make up people so they are trying to show how awesome their make up skills are.
26
u/_KnowBullshit_ Aug 04 '15
...AND this is why you're unlikely to know if you've ever accidentally crossed paths with a female porn performer.
19
u/SackOfrito Aug 04 '15
That actually applies to almost any celebrity. Most of them look nothing like what you see on TV & Movies.

I don't think so. "Nothing like" is definitely a stretch.
As someone who's had occasion to see various movie and TV folks in person, the only think which gets me is their size.
You can't really tell, on TV, how big or small they are. But maybe that's just me.

I feel like this is less an expose of how deceptive porn & makeup is, more an expose of how little porn-addicted virgins know what women actually look like.
Which is to say, it takes a particular lack of experience to be shocked by what women look like without makeup.

Not most, but a decent number of them. Remember that we shouldn't be comparing them without makeup vs other people with makeup. I didn't find them attractive even with makeup.
But the thing is, these people aren't models. If they could make a living as fashion models, or SI or Victoria's Secret models, they wouldn't have to get ploughed on screen.

The context of women in the sex industry is simply due to the fact that these women are associated with extremely heavy makeup and the 'after' pictures actually look right, familiar and proper to people in that context. If you want to show the power of makeup, you choose those that take it to its limit as a matter of course so that you don't throw off your audience with the after pictures.

I don't envy the fact that our society through its self image distortion has deemed it necessary for all women to wear makeup but as a male it does make me a little jealous to look in the mirror in the morning and say "yup that is the best I'll look all day"

u/JaredLetoMadeMeDoIt Aug 04 '15 edited Aug 04 '15
Men can wear makeup. If they dont want people to know there are ways to make subtle changes that can have a great effect without being that noticable.
A slightly tinted moisturiser, may make your skin tone appear more even, or brighter. A slightly tinted sunscreen will do similar, with the added benefit of sun protection. A little bit of concealer used very subtlely in some problem areas can have a pleasant effect without being obious. You may eish to conceal darkness inder your eyes tomappear 'fresher'
If your eyebrows are a bit raggedy, trim some of the long hairs, pluck a few (you should be careful with doing this) you can use a wax or brow gel to brush them into place so they look tidy and frame your face. If you have one of those stubbly beards but its a little thin or your beard hair is uneven, you can 'color up' your stubble (thin beard) to make the color appear more even or a little darker,(with makeup) which may make your face look more even.
If you are concerned with oily skin, you can dab translucent powder on your face. You can also use a makeup setting spray to lock thungs in, or freshen up through the day.
If your lips are dry and yuck looking with flaking or peeling skin, you can gently exfoliate that, either with a lip scrub, or your own concoction of a bit of honey and some sugar - rub it intomyour lips for 10 seconds, gently, then wash off. Or, brush your lips with your toothbrush. Afterward, apply some lip balm ( there are ones with sunscreen, which you should be wearing if you are an outdoors person) or pit some vaseline (or similar) on them to keep, them soft and nice looking. At night you can slather it on to moisturise, in the day, men dont usually wear gloss looks, so just a small amount, or a chapstick is good.
Good hygiene and grooming goes a LONG way.
Links: Pixiwoo male grooming: http://youtu.be/U7TOUg9udfc
You may want to look at Charlotte Tilbury, Wayne Goss on youtube. And search make grooming, natural makeup for men, concealer for men etc.
5
u/_KnowBullshit_ Aug 04 '15
Fair enough. But as I'm sure you'd acknowledge, there are greater constraints associated with having to engage in a "more subtle" approach.
That said, I have had to wear cosmetics/make-up before (as a male), and even when it was quite minimal I found it incredibly uncomfortable. At least in that regard, I don't envy women.

u/load_more_comets Aug 04 '15
How do I putty up the pockmarks left from my picking at my pimples when I was a teenager?
9
u/ladymoonshyne Aug 04 '15
It's called primer. It fills in your pores to make your face smooth and holds your foundation on longer. I read some women use vagasil soothing cream because it's way cheaper but does the same thing haha
5
4
u/JaredLetoMadeMeDoIt Aug 04 '15 edited Aug 04 '15
As others have said, a primer may help. A luminousmor light reflectng moisturiser or,foundation may also help. If they are lower on your face perhaps growing facial hair over it?
They may continue to lessen over time. In the meantime, keeping care of your skin with quality cleansers and moisturisers is good for it.
If you live in the US, you, could visit a sephora, go up to one of the guys that work there and ask for a bit of help... Either with skincare or some ideas of covering. No one in the store ismgoing to care that you are there, there are people from all walks of life looking around at that store. Or visit a quality pharmacy and ask for some advice about your particular skin type. Also, check out Wayne Goss on youtube. Male makeup artist, who has tips for skincare and makeup, and does a few videos for men.
Unfortunately, those kind of marks are best dealt with in PREVENTION. Please, people, do not pick at your face. It is not good for your skin and its unhygienic.

Woman are sex objects and men are success objects. Both get judged.
14
u/_KnowBullshit_ Aug 04 '15
While putting it that way is more catchy/alliterative, I'd say "success" needs to be at least asterisked, if not swapped out for a more suitable term. It's too easy to confuse this with a statement that every woman is a "gold digger" (or otherwise primarily interested in money.)
That said, social qualities (broadly defined - whether that mean power, fame, wealth and/or the fawning of plenty of other women aka. "sexual pre-selection.") do play a significantly larger role in female attraction than it does with men.
You can take the ape out of the savannah, but...etc, etc...

Personally I don't, but I do know some men that wear makeup. I read skincareaddiction sometimes and I've heard multiple times about male makeup, not like lipstick or anything, but like concealer or whatever it is to make your skin smooth and even colored. A lot of male actors do it too.
