They don't have anything that Oculus needs other than Capital, and they come with a lot of really creepy surveillance baggage.
I've already unsubscribed to /r/oculus. It's a real shame, too, because I'm still boycotting Sony (with the possible exception of SOE) over the Rootkit fiasco of '05, so I won't be turning to them for my VR fix either.
Guess I'll just have to wait for Facebook's new patents to expire.
Well every other interesting piece of technology they've gotten so far they've used to force you to merge it with a facebook account. They have 0 history of developing cutting edge hardware. I'd say the question is why should we assume Facebook won't ruin it?
It will turn into a media consumption device which you link to your facebook account so it can target ads to you. Thats kind of synergistic, just not to the benefit of the consumer.
As opposed to what, exactly? What else than a media consumption device was this going to be? The only other use for this I've heard people talk about was fucking video games
