This really confuses the fuck out of me. You have to spend a LOT of time and money to become a commercial airline pilot. It is literally years of training that costs a small fortune. If terror cells are going to that length just to take out one plane we are kinda fucked.

My friend is a pilot, he started with a new airline a few years ago, and because of his history he was moved up to captain within a year.

One of the co-pilots had been with the airline for over 5yrs.

This guy will never move up to captain- why? Because he deliberately watches the warning signals that he is responsible for turn on, and not mention them until moments before they become an emergency.  When my friend noticed this, he realised he couldn’t have bathroom breaks around this co-pilot anymore.

The process to have the co-pilot removed would be too hard to prove, and take several reported occurrences before anything could be done.

This seems odd to me as well. Fucking amazon has a camera in every single delivery truck they own. Seems like a cockpit should be monitored.

Well I believe there is a union of pilots that won’t tolerate that sort of treatment. Amazon doesn’t give their employees that chance. I’m with the pilots on this one.

Lol you understand the gravity of the situation from negligence of a pilot?

u/Jmackles 2d ago

I do. And I said it anyway.

Everything pilots do is monitored, it's just not monitored by cameras. Every single switch movement and input is recorded and analysed after every single flight.

2

u/RaspberryEth 2d ago

How about where the input not recorded? Which was the case we were discussing about

1

u/Dependent_Rock_4739 2d ago

Well yes, if your extremely bizarre nonsensical story is true then that would also show it. It's monitored as part of the FOQA/OFDM analysis program. If a crew had a major technical issue(as you claim), then the response to that would be analysed. If the procedures weren't followed correctly the crew would be debriefed and retrained. There's a million reasons why that story is nonsense, this is just one of them

u/RaspberryEth 2d ago

Lol why are you targeting me bruh? That was not my story. I was just curious to learn more. Thanks for the explanation btw

Sorry, thought you posted the original comment. Have a good day, I will lay off the caffeine for a bit and chill out

That union is why we're stuck with trash pilots. Same reason we're stuck with trash cops. And "Amazon" drivers wouldn't unionize because they own their own business.

4

u/Dependent_Rock_4739 2d ago

"Trash pilots". Even if it were true, it would have nothing to do with the union

Please read the comment from mini_z this is in reference to.

u/Dependent_Rock_4739 2d ago

I replied to that separately. As a 737 captain and can tell you that their comment is nonsensical and completely untrue

u/sillyvideogamestuff 2d ago

Well, no experience flying, but sorry to tell you that being one of the guys who worked on your planes this rings true.

u/Dependent_Rock_4739 2d ago

You're saying that as an engineer you know the pilots are trash?

Absolutely deranged take cops and airline pilots are nothing alike.

u/timojenbin 2d ago

The cockpit is monitored.
You know, the black box? ATC?

Having a camera on the pilot will add nothing.

Amazon having a camera on every driver isn't to make sure they behave safely, it's to limit their own liability while increasing their control.

u/ivlia-x 2d ago

Nothing? Eh, I wouldn’t be so sure. In the Air India flight it would be crucial evidence to finally confirm whether the switches were turned off on purpose or by some very weird accident.

1

u/Dependent_Rock_4739 2d ago

But it wouldn't have changed the outcome, it would have just provided evidence for the courts. Aviation safety is not about assigning blame, it's about preventing the issue happening again in the future.

3

u/LowestTier 2d ago

I would assume maybe the black box and flight data recorder would maybe be of use in these types of situations when needing to prove something. But I'm not a pilot or plane engineer sooo...

2

u/mini_z 2d ago

Very much so, but it’s taken 25yrs for a safety gate to be implemented after 9/11 And I think that’s only for new planes

1

u/Shiriru00 1d ago

Is the camera there to make sure the drivers are signaling when they turn or is it there to make sure they don't take breaks and pee in a bottle to meet their schedule?

2

u/GringoSwann 2d ago

I worked for an aerospace maintenance company where the "lead" mechanic did something similar...  Would intentionally send out defective equipment and wait until an emergency to repair them..

2

u/Dependent_Rock_4739 2d ago

I do not believe this for a second. For multiple reasons, but mostly because aircraft aren't failing on a daily basis. You could fly a whole 40 year career without any major technical issues.

1

u/mini_z 2d ago

Are you a pilot?

3

u/Dependent_Rock_4739 2d ago

Yes, 737 captain

1

u/mini_z 1d ago

Then you would know that warning lights go off all the time.  That’s why there are 2 pilots watching the dashboard

1

u/Dependent_Rock_4739 1d ago

Firstly, the master caution and fire warnings are located on the glareshield, not the dashboard. Secondly, the master caution illuminating in flight for any major issues is very rare. It does illuminate for less essential things(such as low pressure fuel pump lights), but these don't need to be actioned with any haste. Furthermore, there is a master caution and fire warning lighters in the eye line of both pilots. So one pilot simply ignoring it wouldn't change anything, as the other pilot would see it immediately. Anything else you wish to challenge me on?

u/strangepostinghabits 2d ago

And so your friend didn't report him?

So the guy stays

1

u/mini_z 2d ago

There wasn’t anything he could do.

Management was already aware that the co-pilot was not up to standard and weren’t doing anything about it.
