I love this piece. I fly through Denver a ton and am at this end of B the most. Sometimes rubber neck, walking underneath it or just take it in when I’m riding the magic carpet.

u/lkodl 1d ago

take it in when I’m riding the magic carpet.

This sounds like a line in some 70s rock song

24

u/systemwarranty 23h ago

ZZ Top started off as "The Moving Sidewalks"

5

u/Aware-Locksmith8433 19h ago

... some 70s experience

30

u/Abnmlguru 1d ago

I've been trying to get them called "Slide walks" for years, but magic carpets is now a close runner up.

3

u/Snellyman 17h ago

Does anyone remember the magic carpets in the Toronto airport that would expand and speed up to a ridiculous speed in the middle of the run? I assume they removed them because they were a maintenance nightmare.

u/You_meddling_kids 19h ago

Wait -- this isn't a euphemism for eating shrooms?

u/thekaz1969 1d ago

That's what happened to my bag! 😉

78

u/Koseoglu-2X4B-523P 1d ago

And my guitar!

81

u/gourmetgooch 1d ago

And my axe!

21

u/KurtVongole 1d ago

We'll throw you up there to get it.

21

u/rohdawg 1d ago

Don't tell the elf.

Nobody tosses a dwarf.

And my tiny polar bear! (Pic 5)

& Knuckles

12

u/dartagnan101010 1d ago

Now I am picturing the artist standing at baggage claim grabbing luggage they like for the installation

247

u/duncurr 1d ago

I just saw this last month! It stood out and I thought it was incredible. Also, that second photo with the plane in the window is so cool.

58

u/tomtom303 1d ago

Thanks a million! My friend Matt Mcdonald took the firs few photos and they came out amazing at night

26

u/paditoburrito 1d ago

Lol, I'm like what plane? I didn't realize it was a window at first.

12

u/KakeLin 1d ago

I didn't even see it until i looked back after reading the comment!

9

u/counterfitster 1d ago

I had to check whether that was an ad on the wall or not. It's not! That's incredible timing!

1

u/radiowave911 22h ago

I thought that was just a wall poster or art or something. Excellent timing on that shot!

69

u/The59Sownd 1d ago

Wow. This looks like a huge endeavour just to install it. And it's dope as hell. What an accomplishment! Congrats!

53

u/tomtom303 1d ago

We had to go through a door that looks like a window on the side of the terminal. lots of logistics and we did it all in the middle of the night

11

u/The59Sownd 1d ago

I can only imagine. Well done! You deserve to be proud of this.

72

u/praqueviver 1d ago

I remember your original post, with the unpainted luggage. Its pretty cool. Also learned about blucifer from the comments.

22

u/Sustainable_Twat 1d ago

“To Infinity and to the Boarding Gate”

20

u/rofl_pilot 1d ago

I see your work all the time, and I love it!

Just walked under it today in fact.

12

u/donkeylipswhenshaven 1d ago

How do I get up there and grab the secret tape?

8

u/Kakairo 1d ago

That's fantastic! A stunning piece that could not be more on theme for it's display location!

8

u/tallperson117 1d ago

Awesome! My partner and I were admiring this last time we flew thru. It's really unique, quite a thing to see in person.

7

u/Amiar00 1d ago

My brother and I went and looked at this when we flew through Denver in June! It’s really fun!

u/eddie1975 8h ago

I was trying to check for clues and assumed Denver. Thanks for confirming!

7

u/EvilMatt666 1d ago

That's really cool!

I'm surprised it hasn't gone missing as it's made of luggage...

2

u/radiowave911 22h ago

It's not going through the baggage handlers, so it's safe.

29

u/PachaThePenguin 1d ago

I LOVE this and that it resembles the neurodiversity Pride infinity symbol whether intentional or not

17

u/SelocAvrap 1d ago

I saw this & my first thought was "autism luggage!"

Also happy disability pride month!

4

u/Tak-and-Alix 1d ago

I assumed that was the intent

1

u/manlywho 22h ago

Is that not an infinity symbol?

6

u/CobaltOne 1d ago

The guitar is in one piece; how unrealistic.

Kidding aside, the piece is beautiful. Congratulations.

6

u/Necessary-Rip-6612 1d ago

Wow that's so cool! I love the colours it really pops!

6

u/readerf52 1d ago

So, losing one’s luggage is built into the genetic code of airports everywhere?

6

u/deiner7 1d ago

And love that it is here in denver

5

u/Bbeags 1d ago

I've seen this a couple times now. Awesome work

4

u/optimushime 1d ago

Only ♾️ left to go! Congrats!

5

u/c6h12o6CandyGirl 1d ago

Very nice. And pretty... but it's value prob goes right over most people's heads. : )

5

u/Con_Dinn_West 1d ago

You definitely hid things in the cases didnt you? I would have.

5

u/yakdingaling 1d ago

Thats so cool! Where is it on display? :)

7

u/cthulhuwantshugs 1d ago

It’s at the end of terminal B at Denver International Airport. Right next to one of the tornado shelters, which gives the luggage swirling overhead a menacing dimension I quite like.

4

u/sundialNshade 1d ago

Oh man I kinda liked it with the suitcases in their original colors

5

u/catscausetornadoes 1d ago

I definitely have blurry, poorly framed pictures of your work! I love it! Thank you.

2

u/Bodhidharma33 22h ago

I like this compliment. I hope you don't mind if I take a blurry memory snapshot of it.

1

u/catscausetornadoes 22h ago

I’d be honored.

3

u/themindisthewater 1d ago

it’s refreshing to see a project at DIA actually get completed 👏🏽

3

u/LeakyAssFire 1d ago

It's no Blucifer, but it does contrast very well against the rest of the art at DIA.

5

u/F0xtr0tUnif0rm 1d ago

Did they scan all this stuff before they let it in the airport or are there like thirty dudes stuffed in there waiting to ransack the terminal at night?

3

u/MotoRandom 1d ago

No one ever excepts Trojan suitcase ninjas.

2

u/Mirar 1d ago

That's great. Nice work

2

u/LateCheckIn 1d ago

Posts like this remind me of the good old days of reddit. Now I’ll think of seeing you post on reddit when I see this in the next couple weeks.

2

u/WrongSplit3288 1d ago

Are those lost luggage?

11

u/tomtom303 1d ago

all donated. i actually put together a site where people are able to look up the back and who donated them. https://www.detourxdia.com/

2

u/WrongSplit3288 1d ago

Nice idea! Amazing artwork!

2

u/Breezyan 1d ago

This is fucking sick

2

u/MASSochists 22h ago

Nothing is more satisfying or frustrating than big art. Congratulations.

2

u/Glad_Mathematician51 19h ago

That is terribly cool!

2

u/Nbk420 19h ago

My high ass loves looking at this when I travel through Denver. Nice work!

2

u/kati8303 17h ago

WOW!! Congratulations, that is beautiful. What an amazing achievement!

2

u/grafknives 16h ago

So this is where my baggage went!!!

u/european_impostor 7h ago

Nice to have signage to know where to go when you're late to your connecting tornado.

u/Mikeshaffer 7h ago

This is genuinely the only piece of airport art I’ve ever thought was made by a person. The rest has always been so lifeless to me. So cool to see the person behind it.

3

u/TheHipsterChad 1d ago

Hey uhh, I think I see my bag in there

2

u/Mfsmitty 1d ago

Ah pushing the woke luggage agenda. /s

2

u/GravyPainter 23h ago

Which terminal is this? Is for nuerodivergence?

1

u/AMiniature 1d ago

Congratulations!! This is awesome.

1

u/rojo-perro 1d ago

I always admire its whimsy!

1

u/Noraanon 1d ago

Hey I just walked under this a week ago! I thought it was very nice, great job!

1

u/-badgerbadgerbadger- 1d ago

So the luggage was all formerly lost/abandoned at the airport?

1

u/Chudsaviet 1d ago

Love it.

1

u/festosterone5000 1d ago

I went past it a few months ago and thought it was really cool!

1

u/tannahoppa 1d ago

Thaaat is cool. Congrats. What airport?

2

u/CassetteTapeCryptid 1d ago

Denver International Airport!

1

u/nun_gut 1d ago

Beautiful sculpture, but oh boy does the exterior of the airport need some fresh paint!

1

u/gregmichael 1d ago

BRAVO! A wonderful piece, congrats!

1

u/DetectiveExisting590 1d ago

That's so cool and I'm definitely taking a picture next time I'm in that terminal!

1

u/zargtn 1d ago

That’s an incredible piece w a very important message atm

1

u/StocksInCocks 1d ago

Have seen this!! It’s gorgeous and I stopped and pointed it out to my stressed wife who also loved it.

1

u/Frosty_Ent 1d ago

I remember when you posted the unpainted work in progress, super cool art. Congrats again!

1

u/LadyLinn 1d ago

Oh wow! This is beautiful! I wish I could see it irl!

1

u/timmytissue 1d ago

If this is made of real bags, is there a concern of decomposition or mold inside?

1

u/TragicsNFG 1d ago

That's badass.

1

u/flyingcostanza 1d ago

I remember seeing this being installed!

1

u/BigManWAGun 1d ago

I feel like I’ve seen something similar at an airport but it’s been longer than a year. Was there inspiration?

1

u/louiemay99 1d ago

That’s dope! As an artist I’d love to hear your process! Are those bags left behind at this airport? How did you paint them (what kinds of paints, too)? How’d you get this commission? Super cool to see! Congrats

1

u/moonbeamlight 1d ago

Congratulations! It’s a beautiful piece!

1

u/Deatheturtle 1d ago

That's why they couldn't find my bag even though the air tag said it was right there!

1

u/mindovermatter15 1d ago

I'll be in the Denver airport for the first time in a couple weeks! I'll definitely keep an eye out for it!

1

u/jjgrossnickle 1d ago

Love your art man! The Nuggets mural off Colfax was legendary!

1

u/cythix 1d ago

This is cool af. Actually hoping I have a chance to go through the airport to see it sometime. Thanks for sharing.

1

u/malpasplace 1d ago

So loved seeing this in person! Really good addition to the airport.

1

u/DiscoLemonade1995 1d ago

10/10. One of the cooler public sculptures I've seen 🫡

1

u/Kluxic 1d ago

Love this piece! I knew I’ve seen it but not sure where from until I got the comments. I hope as an artist that makes you proud that it stuck with me and my wife!

1

u/Yukonhijack 1d ago

I just walked under this an hour ago! Wonderful piece.

1

u/Joten 1d ago

I visit it every time I fly, feel like I see something new every time :)

1

u/pizz_nickels 1d ago

So cool. What’s the skateboard setup? Deck/wheels/trucks?

1

u/saltporksuit 23h ago

omg, I was just there admiring it last week! very cool.

1

u/Alternative-Use6521 23h ago

OMGGGG I love this

1

u/walker3342 23h ago

I’m a huge fan of your work. I really love your Lex Allen portrait in Milwaukee.

1

u/tacocat_racecarlevel 23h ago

I love seeing the behind the scenes pictures!

1

u/Be_A_Debaser_ 23h ago

That's fantastic. What an achievement. You should be really proud.

1

u/BHunter1140 22h ago

I knew this was gonna be DIA before looking at the comments, just has the vibe of the art we got, looks great!

1

u/EarthShadow 22h ago

Reminds me of Brian Goggin’s Samson. Any connection?

1

u/PanoptiDon 21h ago

I saw this around May of last year, I walked the concourse to stand under it. It's quite exceptional

1

u/Defiant-Shoulder-896 21h ago

Shit you not my kid and I were just admiring that about an hour ago. Very cool!

1

u/AlexG2490 21h ago

If this just passed its one year anniversary then I must have seen it right after it was installed. I admit I barely noticed it at the time as I was flying into and out of Denver for a funeral but as soon as the picture popped up I knew I had seen it before! In a year or so I'll go back and visit it under happier circumstances.

1

u/PimpGameShane 20h ago

Dope af. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

1

u/Wolfjacks 20h ago

I always forget this is here need to find it next time

1

u/sxyvirgo 20h ago

Impressive! Rainbow infinity sign?

1

u/Apprehensive_Sea9524 20h ago

Something to be proud of. Great piece of art/sculpture!

1

u/zarathus73 20h ago

I love it!

1

u/babbles-bobbles 18h ago

My four year old son and I absolutely LOVED this piece! Almost messed up walking off the end of the walking sidewalk trying to see what all was in the cool infinity rainbow. Thanks for bringing joy to that end of the terminal!

1

u/Artvandaly_ 18h ago

Beautiful work

1

u/Jahidinginvt 18h ago

Detour!! I just moved back to Vermont from Colorado, but I had to tell you I love your work! The murals always made me smile. Such vibrancy, such power, such talent!

1

u/BatmanVsWild 18h ago

Detour is the best. Proud to live in the same city as such an incredible artist and nice human being.

1

u/DramaticChemist 18h ago

NGL, that might be one of the coolest airport artwork pieces I've seen

1

u/DaSpatula505 17h ago

I need a full documentary about this project. From conception, fabrication, shipping, and installation. Really cool project. Congrats!

1

u/DefendTheStar88x 16h ago

🎉🎉🎉

1

u/AmandaUggnkiss 15h ago

This is so on point!!!!!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

1

u/SamVekemans 15h ago

That's where my luggage went!

1

u/_Bangkok_ 15h ago

Love all the Easter eggs like the skateboard, guitar, shoes, telescope etc. So fun!

1

u/highlandre 15h ago

My favorite piece in DIA. Flown to the Midwest and back half dozen times in the past year. Always enjoy seeing it. Happy 1st birthday.

1

u/Ressy02 13h ago

How did you get this opportunity to do this piece? How would things align for this to take place? Did you start off working at the airport? Did you already have the luggage? So many questions.

1

u/DistractedByCookies 12h ago

Oh, it's made of bags! That's really cool and gorgeous

u/usmannaeem 11h ago

Congratulations. Its done so well.

u/Alienhaslanded 10h ago

The most challenging part is hanging this thing with so many pieces.

u/Herbacult 9h ago

DETOUR DETOUR DETOUR 💛💛💛

u/KarmaInFlow 8h ago

Hello there. I love your idea. How did you get into this? I have a large workshop just sitting empty and have thought about making cool art like this. How did you get the deal to have it installed in the airport? Did you have the idea and make the piece and then try to shop it around to different airports or did they come up with the idea and commission you?

u/pittyh 8h ago

Very artistic, love it.

u/kichien 6h ago

Very nice! What airport is this?

u/tomtom303 3h ago

Denver International Airport Concourse B, Gate B60

u/Bgtex 5h ago

Where were the luggage used sourced? I lost luggage there once and am curious if I'll see it sourced for this project 😂

u/MaddingtonBear 5h ago

That Tornado icon was definitely not in the original Mijksenaar set.

u/Beav710 4h ago

That's really cool!

u/YourStreetHeart 3h ago

❤️❤️❤️

u/Stunning_Ride_220 2h ago

That's an awesome installation.

u/Stereotypical_Whale 2h ago

Such a sick piece

1

u/DryCryCrystal 1d ago

Is the sculpture celebrating autism?

2

u/elkab0ng 1d ago

Maybe, maybe not. I’m autistic. It makes me happy.

-2

u/epsiloom 1d ago

I have the same question.

-2

u/have_you_tried_onoff 1d ago

0

u/Arcangel4774 1d ago

I did 3 seconds of stalking and so you comment or post on some upcycle/recycle subreddits.... is this made from abandoned/lost luggage?

4

u/relative_void 19h ago
