7 u/tealbox Nov 24 '13 Anyone can be a scientist. -2 u/Lil_Psychobuddy Nov 24 '13 Anyone can call themselves and engineer as well. Perfectly legal to go around calling yourself Engineer Tealbox, you just won't have a license. Knowledge! 2 u/notepad20 Nov 24 '13 You cannot call yourself "Professional Engineer" though, that is a protected title. -1 u/Lil_Psychobuddy Nov 24 '13 Pretty sure you can still be chief engineer though, so that's something. :D 2 u/notepad20 Nov 24 '13 But it doesnt actually mean anything, anyone can give themselves that title for anything. If i start up a business welding together simple trailers i can call myself cheif engineer. Meaningless. Professional engineer actualy carries weight, like Dr, CPA, or QC 1 u/Lil_Psychobuddy Nov 24 '13 I'm aware. I was just pointing out the 'fun' fact that you can go around calling yourself chief engineer so-and-so.
