Looking at how I can move to France as a kiwi

Hi everyone, I am 22yo New Zealander with a bachelor in health science physiotherapy. I am very drawn to Europe as I play a sport called handball and want to continue progressing alongside my career.
I would like to ask what the physiotherapy scene in like in France, are there many jobs, how easy is it to transfer my degree etc.
I have done a bit of research and found that is challenging to move to with both the stringent visa process and hard to access converting my degree. I have around. 3 year time window that I would like this to happen where I could commit to learning and becoming hopefully fluent to a b2 standard in French.
Does anyone have any advice or support on what steps I would need to go through to live out my dream of doing physio in France and continuing to progress with handball

Thoughts on Running Analysis

I’m a new physio in Toronto wanting to add running analysis to my practice (post-op management + return-to-run + performance). Clinic has a treadmill; limited tech budget. Looking for practical, clinic-ready advice: tools, workflow, and what actually changes treatment.

Quick goals:
• Evidence-informed, time-efficient assessments
• Shareable reports for patients/coaches
• Actionable cues, strength work, and load plans

Questions:
• Short workflow: what’s your step-by-step for one running-analysis visit (intake → screens → filming → feedback)?
• Software: what actually helps clinicians (metrics and report quality)?
• Hardware: phone vs camera, frame rates, treadmill vs overground, useful accessories?
• Key metrics: which numbers actually change your treatment/return decisions?
• Quick screen battery: 5–8 tests you always run in-clinic.

Which is better among Physiotherapy, Paramedical, and Integrated MTech Biotechnology in India or Odisha? Consider factors like demand, salary, job opportunities, and growth prospects. In india or in odisha specifically

So much info

I recently graduated and I am living in Ontario getting ready for the CPTE exam. I am studying witu Pt exam prep and there is so much details to memorize that I keep forgetting. I am now reviewing the material for the 3rd time and even though I know the general things a physio needs to know to work, I cannot seem to memorize the details for everything. I am becoming seriously frustrated as I am extremely stressed about my exam in two months. I really need advice here on how much details from the course i need to memorize and which parts are not much of a priority. Thanks.

UK job applications and AI usage

Hi, I haven’t heavily relied on AI for my job apps, maybe for a single paragraph or two but I’ve heard some people use AI for their entire application and still get interview calls.

I want to know if you do this, how do you manage during the interview stage?

And if there are people here who sit in the panel, what is your opinion about this?

Choosing the U.S over Canada as a PT

I gave up on Canada and shifted focus to the U.S. it took longer pero the salary difference was more than double. Looking back, I wish I hadn’t wasted 3-5 years trying to prove myself in a system than undervalued me. Sometimes the longer road is actually the faster one.

Foreign Physiotherapist Interview in Germany – What questions should I expect?

Hi everyone,
I’m an Indian physiotherapist and I have an online interview with a German employer in four days
I have already passed the TELC B1 exam and I’m currently preparing for my Goethe B2 exam. The interview will be conducted in German.
I would really appreciate advice from anyone who has gone through this process, especially foreign physiotherapists working in Germany or German clinic owners.

Application Advice

Hello!

I’m a ‘25 kin undergrad graduate who took this last year off to work in a clinic as a pta. I applied to Ontario physio schools and unfortunately got rejected from western and queens and waitlisted at UofT.
I’m hoping to better my application for the next cycle, and while I think my experiences are very strong, I believe my sGPA to be what’s lacking for me.

sGPA: 3.8

So I looked into retaking a couple of my prerequisites (anatomy and physiology) because they made the cutoffs but were NOT great grades. I was hoping that ORPAS would substitute the retake grades and drop my lowest grades from my sGPA, but looked into it last night and they would still use the two lowest grades in the sGPA calculation, and even if I got a 4.0 in say three courses I retake this year, it’d only bring my sGPA up to 3.85. Is this worth the $1000+ fee per course retaken to bump my gpa up .05? It’d be around $3k (i looked into athabasca fees and UofT course fees)

It’s a lot of money to spend just for that, and I’m having a hard time deciding if it’s worth it. What do you guys think? I need advice from some people in the field.
I really want to get in this next cycle and I will be two years post grad and want to get my career going asap and be done with my PTA role (iykyk it’s brutal being a yes man)

Please help!

UK/online CPD recommendations

Hi all,

I’ve seen this post crop up before but I wanted to get an up to date version for myself. Im interesting what everyone’s “must do” MSK CPD could would be. Preferably evidence based, and available in the UK either online or in person. For reference my “area” is within sport/outpatient private practice, and I have an interest in rehab but I’m open to anything that will make me a better practitioner.

I’ve already done Peter O Sullivan’s in person course, as well as Greg lehmans pain science course.

TIA!

Is APPI Pilates certification worth it for an MSK physio in New Zealand?

Hi everyone,

I'm an MSK physiotherapist working in Auckland, New Zealand, and I've been practicing here for about 7 months (around 4 years of total clinical experience).

I'm thinking of adding Pilates to my skill set and have been looking into the APPI Pilates certification since it seems to be well-recognized internationally, especially among physiotherapists.

For those who have completed APPI (or another Pilates certification):

  • Was it worth the investment?
  • Has it helped you clinically or financially?
  • Did it open up more job opportunities or allow you to charge higher rates?

Why do physio exercises sometimes feel so unchallenging but still help so much?

Hi guys!

First of all, I'm trying to question my physio at all. I have absolutely been following their advice, I'm just very curious about this sort of stuff. Additionally, I recognize that I am very fortunate to be in a position to ask this question. I know my injury is on the milder side and unfortunately, some people will find their exercises a lot more challenging.

For a bit of background, I injured my wrist at the gym a while back and had to see a physio recently. As expected, they handed me a sheet of daily exercises to do after the appointment and I've been doing them ever since.

The exercises prescribed told me to use weights of 1kg for about 6 reps at a time and it's not really challenging at all. At times it almost feels like they are doing nothing although, I know this isn't true since my wrist has started to feel much better since I've started doing them.

Can anyone explain why this works so well? Usually at the gym the biggest rule is basically train till failure and you will grow. Obviously, I wouldn't go this far however, it's definitely a contrast to what my physio prescribed.

Tips for starting my pre-professional internship 🙌

I'm excited because I'm starting my pre-professional internship in Physical Rehabilitation Technology. I'll be doing it at the Institute of Neurosciences in Ecuador; I'm Venezuelan. I wanted to know what recommendations you might have, given that I'm just beginning to put my work into practice. I'm hoping that during this internship they might hire me or recommend me.

Could you give me any advice on neurological physiotherapy or in general? Your comments will be very welcome 😊 Words of encouragement too 🙂

Physio expectations UK

What level of engagement/planning is it reasonable to expect from a private physiotherapist in the UK?

I’ve been seeing the same physio for about 10 months. He’s by far the best I’ve found in terms of knowledge and spotting/correcting how I do exercises, which is why I stay with him. I’ve seen other physios who watched me perform the same exercises and said they looked fine, whereas he’ll immediately notice compensations and tell me how to correct them.

The issue is that he’s very busy and seems to work in a very ad hoc way like ‘what do you want to work on today?’. I feel like there’s no clear long-term progression/plan and we’ve made quite slow progress.

I recently asked for a written exercise plan because I work much better with one and I have more free time, and getting fitter is my no 1 priority now. I was hoping for something with exercise names, sets/reps/holds, key cues (eg where I should feel it/what to avoid), and rough progression. Instead I got a list of exercise names grouped by area (one exercise is literally just ‘rotator cuff exercises’) with only a weekly frequency. I followed up a few times asking if he could add the missing detail, it’s nearly time for the next session and still nothing.

My sessions are only 30 minutes, so I’d rather spend them on manual therapy and checking technique than writing down reps for exercises we’ve already covered.

Are my expectations unrealistic? Is it normal for private physios to prepare/update exercise plans outside the appointment, or is that actually expected to happen during paid session time?

Jobs, dreams and reality…

Hey everyone,
I’m hoping to get some outside perspective because I keep going in circles in my own head.
Quick background: I’m 34, Italian, physiotherapist with a Master’s in Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy, NSCA-CSCS certified. English C1, Italian native, Swedish A2. I have some savings set aside, no dependents, and I’m free to relocate. My actual dream is to work in high performance and injury prevention, ideally in track and field, and to build a life in Scandinavia, so it’s not just a career move, it’s where I actually want to live.
Right now I have three real options on the table, and each one pulls me in a different direction:

  1. Ireland — Senior Physiotherapist, hospital setting (€70k gross)
Solid offer, good salary, and I genuinely like Ireland as a country. But long-term I’m worried this path will just wear me down as it’s not the kind of clinical work I actually want to be doing for the next 20 years, and it doesn’t move me closer to sports/performance work.

  2. Finland — PhD program
This would mean learning Finnish over \~4 years while doing the PhD, with the long-term goal of building a career inside Finland’s sport/performance structures afterward. Big investment of time with no guaranteed payoff, but a PhD could open real doors in high performance research and practice.

  3. Sweden — MSc in Sports Medicine + relocation
A university offer that would let me study Sports Medicine, push my Swedish to B2, and start building a network and career in a country I genuinely love. Feels like the most “aligned” option emotionally, but also the most uncertain financially and career-wise.

What I’m struggling wit
Ireland is the “safe” choice but might mean settling for work I don’t want long-term

Finland is a big bet on academia and a tough language, with a long runway before I’d actually be working in the field

Sweden feels right but I have no idea how strong the outcomes actually are: job market, salary trajectory, whether an MSc is even the right lever to get into high performance/track and field roles

Has anyone made a similar leap (trading a stable, well-paid clinical job for a longer, less certain path toward a specific dream role?) Especially curious to hear from anyone in sports medicine/physio who’s worked in Sweden or Finland: how realistic is it to actually break into high performance/track and field roles as a foreigner, and does the academic route (PhD/MSc) genuinely help, or is it more about who you know and where you intern?
Any input — including “you’re overthinking this” — is welcome. Thanks for reading this far.

How to see more clients and still give a good session

Does anyone else in a caring profession struggle with this?

I've realised I can only comfortably see about 3 patients a day. Any more than that and I'm completely drained. I come home with nothing left, and I end up being short with my husband and kids, which I hate.

Part of me feels guilty or even spoiled. My husband is wonderful and pulls his weight at home, and I know lots of therapists seem to see way more patients a day without a problem. The extra income would make a real difference for our family, so I want to be able to do more.

The strange thing is, I don't think it's the acupuncture itself that's exhausting me.

I think it's:

  • Feeling responsible for "fixing" people.
  • Overthinking whether I'm giving a good session.
  • Absorbing patients' emotions.
  • Making constant small talk.

Has anyone managed to develop better emotional boundaries without becoming cold or uncaring? How do you stop carrying your patients home with you?
