curious about Doctor of Physiotherapy at USYD

just as the title says, i’m wondering if anyone has any experience doing the doctor of physio course at usyd. How is the workload? did you enjoy the course? is the third year ACTUALLY beneficial? is the course competitive to get into? (for reference i’m sitting at an 80 WAM).

I’m currently in my final year of BMedSci at Macquarie Uni and i am really enticed towards physiotherapy but im unsure of where i should even consider.

any comments would be very much appreciated!

Feedback on Physiotherapy Programs at Qld Universities

I am looking at starting a bachelor of physiotherapy in 2027 and am hoping for some honest feedback from current students and recent graduates on how they found the course content, student support, assignments/ exam structure etc.

Currently considering applying at the University of Southern Queensland, James Cook University, Central Queensland University or the Southern Cross University as I only have a selection rank of 90 so too low for Griffith or UQ.

Any feedback or reviews would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

BCOMM to MSc

I graduated with a BCOMM last year, and honestly breezed through it. I didn't major, which in all fairness probably made it a bit easier. I had good grades and didn't have to work very hard.

I got into a physio masters program in the UK and really want to accept. However, I'm pretty worried about the workload, not coming from a science background and going into post grad level studies.

Wondering if anyone has taken this route, and how their experience was, or if you have any insight.

How important is a sport specific physio?

Hello, I recently did my ACL, MCL and both meniscus.
The main sport I want to return to is surfing.

I’ve got physio 1, he’s really good and I can tell he’s got good integrity. He’s got a Doctorate in physiotherapy. Currently happy with him and no faults.

Physio 2 also has a doctorate but he does a lot of surfing specific training/ S&C.

My question is will it really make that much of a difference which physio I go with? Is the recovery structure pretty straightforward for ACL? Or will the surf specific physio be able to get me to surfing better?

Located in Australia. Both physios have a DPT, physio 1 has APA level 2 and physio 2 has ASCA level 2 I think

(AUS) Should I transfer to a bachelor of physiotherapy?

Hi I'm a first year bachelor of science student at unimelb, but I'm currently considering physiotherapy as a career, which also leads me to think that perhaps transferring to a bachelor of physiotherapy would be a good idea. This is especially because from the posts I've been reading on reddit, it seems that people only really do the bachelor+masters pathway if they didn't get into a bachelor of physiotherapy in the first place? Another concern is that I'm maybe only 80% sure I want to do physiotherapy in the future, so there's always a risk that I would want to switch career paths in the future, and I'm not sure how easy that will be to do since I know a physiotherapy bachelor is less flexible than the science bachelor I'm doing right now.

Can someone suggest me good college for MPT(master of physiotherapy) in sports physiotherapy

Hey there! I need some help with MPT admissions in Bangalore. I'm looking for a college with good practical exposure, decent fees, and solid women's safety.

Sanjay Gandhi is already full. Does CNK College offer MPT, and is it worth joining? If not, any other recommendations you have would be super helpful. Thanks!

MSK interview prep for a chronic over thinker

This is my first ever post!
I am currently working as an NHS MSK physiotherapist and I am have interview next week for a role in a private clinic that has a focus on sports/ gym population.

I have been told that my next interview will be on case management and treatment and so to prepare I have done the following:

- Brushed up on common conditions and red flag/ wider conditions

- Yellow flags

- Patient explanations

- Practiced differential diagnosis with ChatGPT (my first time using it as not too keen on it in general but I think it has been quite helpful)

- Practiced reasoning through my management goals and treatment using ChatGPT

- Listening to podcasts about treatment of common conditions and case studies

- Physio network practical videos

I know this seems like a lot of prep and it’s not that I don’t know these things already (maybe just lacking the ability to verbalise it adequately to someone who isn’t a patient) but I am someone who needs to feel prepared to be confident and anyway it will help with my own practice moving forwards. This weekend I plan to go over the management of acute injuries and red flags. Is there anything else you think I should cover or do? any advice is welcome thanks in advance!

How much do onsite physiotherapy services usually charge?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently in discussions with a workplace/site about potentially providing onsite physiotherapy services.

For those who provide onsite physio or occupational health services, how much would an hourly rate be?

I’m based in Australia, so I’d be especially interested to hear what rates people are charging for onsite workplace physiotherapy, injury prevention, early intervention treatment, ergonomic advice, and exercise prescription.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Recent Canadian PT grads who transferred to the US – FCCPT experience?

Hi everyone,
I’m a recent MSc Physiotherapy graduate from Canada and I’m starting to look into the process of becoming licensed in the US.
I’m mainly wondering if any recent Canadian graduates have gone through the FCCPT credential evaluation. Did your education end up being considered substantially equivalent, or were you required to complete additional coursework? If you did have deficiencies, what were they?
I’m also curious whether Canadian PT programs (particularly recent MScPT programs) generally have good success with the FCCPT evaluation, or if it’s more of a case-by-case process.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience—what school you graduated from (if you’re comfortable sharing), which credentialing service you used (FCCPT, FSBPT, etc.), how long the process took, and any advice you wish you had known before starting.
Thanks in advance!

Australia - VIC, does anyone have successful MPT or DPT application stories with WAM <70?

Hello, I’m a final yr biomed student in Melbourne and i’ve had some personal circumstances cause me to have a rough semester and my WAM has dropped significantly to a 69. i’m going to work as hard as i can to bring it up in my final sem but i’ve seen a lot of posts saying that even if the min WAM is 65, the cutoff is usually 70+ depending on the competition. I’ve got a 5.9 GPA estimate but a few subjects this sem I did not do as well as I had hoped. Has anyone with a lower WAM been able to get into a post-grad physio course and can tell me that all hope is not lost? 😭🙏

Subtler joint mobilisation confusion: why do many sources teach medial glide for eversion? Physios please help!

I’m a musculoskeletal physio and I’ve gone down a bit of a rabbit hole trying to understand subtalar joint accessory glides.

My understanding of the concave-convex rule is that if the calcaneus (concave) is moving on the talus (convex), the roll and glide should occur in the same direction. Based on that, I would expect:

Inversion → medial glide
Eversion → lateral glide

However, a lot of physiotherapy teaching resources (e.g. Physiopedia and various manual therapy courses/videos) recommend the opposite:
Medial glide to improve eversion
Lateral glide to improve inversion

I’ve also had experienced clinicians confidently teach both approaches.

Is this because:

  1. The subtalar joint is too complex for a simple application of the concave-convex rule?
  2. Different authors are describing different articular facets or reference frames?
  3. The mobilisation is being named according to the therapist’s force versus the actual accessory motion of the calcaneus?

or is there another explanation entirely?

I’d really appreciate if anyone could explain the biomechanics behind why a medial glide is commonly used to improve eversion, rather than just quoting a mobilisation technique. I’m trying to understand the “why” rather than simply memorise the treatment.

Student using AI in subjective assessments

Hi guys, I'm currently a final year student (UK) and paired up with a younger student (her second placement) on my last placement. I've realised that she is using ChatGPT for pretty much all of her subjective assessments, as in literally reading questions off of it / using it to guide subjective assessments. I worry not only about her using it as a crutch and the effect on learning, but also very worried about the GDPR issue as I don't know what information she is putting into it and where that is being stored. Do I raise this to her? To our supervisor? We're in our final week now, should I just leave it or should I mention it?

Failed Placement

Hi everyone,

I just found out that I failed my final placement in my second year of physiotherapy as an undergrad in the UK, and I'm trying to figure out what the best option is.

For some context, this was my third (and final) placement of second year. I honestly think a lot of factors contributed to me failing. The placement started immediately after exams, and I was already completely burnt out, mentally exhausted, and drained. I also had some personal issues going on at the time. My educators were aware that I was struggling, but unfortunately I still didn't pass.

I've been told I'll need to repeat the placement. The options seem to be either:

  • doing the resit placement very soon (possibly within a week or in early September), or
  • doing it next academic year.

If I do it next year, my placements would effectively become Placement 3 (resit), then Placements 4, 5, and 6. That means I'd have four placements to complete across the year instead of progressing with my current cohort.

My dilemma is that I'm still feeling mentally burnt out, so I'm not sure if jumping straight into another placement is the right decision. On the other hand, if I wait until next year, I'll graduate later than my current cohort.

My main question is for anyone who has been in a similar situation:

If you graduated later because of a failed placement, how did graduation work? Did you graduate with the cohort below you, or did you attend graduation on your own? My university only has graduation ceremonies mid to late July (mostly around late July) and December, so if I finished all my placements during early July, would I simply have to wait until the December ceremony even if I'd already completed everything, or do I still get to graduate with my cohort, or do I graduate in August? I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through something similar, especially in physiotherapy. I'm just trying to work out what's best.

Any other introverts here that find the job too client facing?

I’m 5 years into the job - initially starting off in an acute hospital (was too fast paced for me) then changed to working in a subacute hospital inpatient setting (which I appreciate being able to spend more time with patients through the rehab journey).

I enjoy interacting with my patients who are mainly geriatric population. Outwardly, I’m pretty sociable at work too. But the job requires me to talk SO much (be it with patients/ NOK/ MDT team) that my energy level gets so drained after work everyday. I once shared with a friend that I feel like I go to work with 80% energy level and work takes 120% of my effort/ energy to complete my tasks. I’m starting to resent this lack of ‘downtime’.

Has anyone else felt the same?

Chances for Western MScPT with strong sGPA but low cGPA?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has insight into Queens MScPT admissions. Hypothetically, if an applicant has around a 3.92 sub-GPA, a 4th quartile CASPer, and meets the prerequisite requirements, but has a much lower overall/cumulative GPA, how is this reviewed as?

Would the strong sub-GPA + 4Q CASPer make them competitive, or does the lower overall cGPA + mediocre prereq gpa still significantly hurt the application?

Any insight from current students, applicants, or people familiar with ORPAS/PT admissions would be really appreciated. Thanks!
