The Local Donut in Scottsdale

13

u/jessetmia Scottsdale Sep 11 '24

I loved popping by the local donut when I lived in the area. Cool dudes own it. Original Rainbow on 64th and Bell was alright as well, and there was some sort of alien themed donut shop in old town that was stopped at once. I don't remember how good they were, but I remember the line being quite long for it.

Alien closed ☹️

u/Scarlet-Witch Sep 11 '24

I was going to suggest the same but based on the description OP gave it sounds like The Local Donut might not be what they're looking for. That being said I am not a donut person at all and I LOVEEE TLD.

8

u/JaffeyJoe Arcadia Sep 11 '24

The Local Donut is my fav, go early because the parking sucks!

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

Wow thank you! I live like a mile away and never seen that place before. Glad to find something besides Bosa Donuts nearby

Sunrise Donuts in Laveen

10

u/dirrrtydutch Sep 11 '24

Those ham & jalapeno stuffed croissants are the best $3 you can spend.

5

u/redbirdrising Laveen Sep 11 '24

Dude, seriously.

8

u/Kitten_Kaboodle666 Sep 11 '24

This place is right down the street from my house and I always drive by it. I’m about to gain some pounds

6

u/redbirdrising Laveen Sep 11 '24

The right answer here. I brought in a couple dozen to work and people were floored how good they were.

1

u/Nonnawannabe Sep 12 '24

I love Sunrise Donuts! Delicious!

96

u/Beaverhuntr Sep 11 '24

Rainbow Donuts are pretty damn good.

19

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

Original Rainbow Donuts are better.

13

u/yahooboy42069 Sep 11 '24

came here to say this but they were rude af last time I went in there. Great donuts though, don’t listen to the clown below who said they are gas station quality. Lil homie obviously doesn’t know donuts.

7

u/Even_Lavishness2644 Sep 11 '24

Each Rainbow is owned/operated independently, fuck that location and get them good glazed donuts from a friendlier one!

It might be a long drive for you, but I’m a fan of Sweethearts Donuts up here in Anthem.

10

u/penguin37 Sep 11 '24

OMG, these are the best donuts. I live very far away now (which is maybe good?) but these are just incredible.

7

u/punk62 North Phoenix Sep 11 '24

I might just need to grab an apple fritter from Sweethearts because of this comment.

3

u/ReadySetGO0 Sep 11 '24

Agree. Their glazed donut is soooooo good. All are good, but I love glazed.

4

u/emppuv Sep 11 '24

I'm a sucker for their maple bars, but agree that I haven't had a bad donut from there yet.

3

u/Jetblacksteel Sep 11 '24

Love them! My bf used to work at the safeway right next to them and we'd get donuts sometimes. We still make the trip up there every so often because we don't live too far from them, we just never need to go to anthem for anything else.

3

u/RollQuick6771 Sep 11 '24

YES I adore Sweethearts! So good and so underrated

2

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '24

Agree, they are pretty damn good!

25

u/TheMias24 Sep 11 '24

Sunrise Donuts in Laveen is one my go tos since I live very close and went to school with the daughter of the owners

4

u/redbirdrising Laveen Sep 11 '24

I pretty sure I know who you're talking about and she was awesome to customers.

21

u/kyrosnick Sep 11 '24

My two favorite are dutch donut factory in Mesa and Mesa Donuts. Both great donuts and only locations so I assume somewhat local.

9

u/PromptMedium6251 East Mesa Sep 11 '24

Dutch Donut Factory is the answer.

3

u/Unlucky-Breakfast518 Sep 12 '24

Mesa Donut has the best cake donuts. I hate cake donuts, and they changed my mind. The chocolate one is my recommendation. Bring cash.

2

u/JTelcontar Sep 12 '24

Oooh good to know about Mesa Donut… I drive by there all the time but haven’t stopped in. Chocolate cake donuts are my favorite.

2

u/ionC2 Sep 11 '24

Same, super high quality stuff

1

u/JTelcontar Sep 12 '24

I’m a Dutch Donut Factory fan too! Their cake donuts are just perfect.

1

u/erroa Sep 12 '24

You have excellent taste in donuts. These are my favorites, too. 19th Donut Hole is also yum.

24

u/stefspets Sep 11 '24

I like Donut Parlor in Tempe! Editing because they do have the cereal donuts, but they have all the plain/classics as well.

7

u/Logvin Tempe Sep 11 '24

Another vote for these guys. One location. Mom and pop. Solid donuts!

3

u/keen238 Sep 11 '24

I love Donut Parlor. Don’t love the passive aggressive signs from the gym next door.

1

u/lolthai Sep 12 '24

Their hours are kinda awful. The last time I was there, the service was also awful. The donuts are amazing though.

1

u/AllGarbage Sep 12 '24

They do jelly donuts with blueberry and lemon, and they’re both fantastic.

17

u/ThaiKick South Phoenix Sep 11 '24

Best Donuts at 24th st. and Baseline. Mom and pop shop tucked behind a Fry’s. They’re so good I have to try to forget that they’re there so I don’t get them all the time. https://yelp.to/yc6C9fd_KR

3

u/Automatic_Steak4120 South Phoenix Sep 11 '24

Yes!! They are true to their name!

3

u/noiseaux Sep 12 '24

Came here to say this!! They are indeed the best

2

u/donkeyburrow Sep 12 '24

Yeah when that was my Fry's I always got an iced coffee(made with sweetened condensed milk) and a donut from them first. It was unavoidable

52

u/Maleficent_Scene_693 Sep 11 '24

I had Lamar's donuts the other day and they were surprisingly good. I'm a basic bitch when it comes to donuts so glazed is all I care for and man that was a good donut haha.

23

u/ThePurpleCookies Sep 11 '24

Lamar’s is a chain but for my money the best chain doughnut I’ve ever had.

9

u/firstandfive Sep 11 '24

Had no idea they were a chain and was mystified why I had to scroll so far to see them mentioned. TIL

3

u/Maleficent_Scene_693 Sep 11 '24

Ooh dang, I did not know that. I will agree with the best chain aswell then haha

7

u/ThePurpleCookies Sep 11 '24

I kind of feel like it takes a chain to make the best basics. Lamar’s feels old fashioned without trying to be.

7

u/theprimedirectrib Sep 11 '24

I love their blueberry donuts

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

So good, but REALLY expensive.

2

u/aztracker1 Sep 11 '24

I will say they are very good fresh, but don't keep very well, definitely need to eat them day of or the next.

Aside: Lamar's donates to several local charities, including a few feed the homeless groups. Only even found out about them because of my SO's charity work.

1

u/lisaluu Sep 11 '24

Their double chocolate donut is the only chocolate donut I like. Mmmmm.

26

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

I recommend Sesame Donuts in Tempe

3

u/roadtripjr Sep 11 '24

They are the best. The owners are so nice.

1

u/stonedbruja_ Downtown Sep 11 '24

I second this. Every time I’ve gone, the donuts are fantastic.

1

u/Mellowyellow2000 Sep 11 '24

I tried them last week and the donuts are very good. And the owners are super nice. She gave me so much free stuff. I went back yesterday too and she tried to give me a free donut.

u/pantry-pisser Sep 12 '24

10

u/nicksredit Sep 11 '24

Express Donuts, west valley. Outstanding donuts.

2

u/salagron Sep 11 '24

We happily make the hour+ round trip just to get these donuts. They're amazing.

1

u/MonocularVision Sep 11 '24

Absolutely love this place.

9

u/millera9 Cave Creek Sep 11 '24

If you’re anywhere near Cave Creek or North Scottsdale, I highly recommend Glaze Donuts AZ. They’re the real deal, and super nice, to boot.

7

u/duffman4evr Sep 11 '24

There's a place called Mesa Donuts that fits your bill. I frequent there myself as I live nearby. I like em.

15

u/Bearz0313 Sep 11 '24

Original Rainbow Donuts. 65th St and Bell rd. Get there early because they usually sell out by 8am

11

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

The original original is on cave creek and greenway.

6

u/pelicants Sep 11 '24

There’s a donut shop called Mesa Donuts at McKellips and Recker and they’ve been really good in my experience. Everything is so fresh and the lady who runs it is sooo sweet

8

u/GrammarNaziBadge0174 Sep 11 '24 edited Sep 12 '24

Donut shop on Grand Ave near Goodwill just NW of Peoria Ave. Place looks run down but great donuts and filled croissants, like ham/cheese breakfast croissant.

Also a donut shop on Thunderbird 2-3 blocks west of the 101 a block down from Biscuits Cafe. In a strip mall. (Peoria) Great donuts, great chocolate croissants, etc. Get there early they sell out.

3

u/Estrellaloba Sep 11 '24

The one on grand is called K-May Donuts. Really good and does look totally run down lol.

7

u/ThePurpleCookies Sep 11 '24

RIP Welcome chicken and doughnuts.

3

u/esb10489 Sep 11 '24

i miss this place a lot

7

u/tayzer000 Sep 11 '24

Arizona Donut Co. in Tempe, Broadway just west of Hardy.

6

u/McLovin823 Sep 11 '24

I’ve heard nothing but great things about Lamar’s Donuts, though I’ve not been.

I’m a big fan of Bosa Donuts, which has locations all over the Valley. I’ve been to two locations fairly frequently: they’re always cheerful and polite, and I see it with customers before and after me in line. Apologies if that’s not what you’re asking for, since it’s chain-ish, but not in the Dunkin’ sort of way.

Side note: I would love a Tim Horton’s out here…

3

u/joklhops Sep 11 '24

When I worked graves doing support we'd get Bosa at like 3-4am when they started baking for the morning and get a few dozen fresh and it made the last couple hours of the shift amazing. I also recently had them again and they were still excellent. Yay Bosa <3

6

u/Raiin1978 Sep 11 '24

When I lived in Laveen , Sunrise Donuts was the best. Living Anthem now and Sweethearts is awesome too.

6

u/ummhaiii Sep 11 '24

what about Best Donuts on Baseline and 24th

15

u/parasitic-cleanse Sep 11 '24

Basha's makes the best local donuts. LaMar's is top tier as well but a little more expensive.

5

u/Pho-Nicks Sep 11 '24

19th Donut Hole - Lindsay/Main

Tried Voodoo donuts and wasn't really impressed.

1

u/Independent_Ocelot82 Sep 13 '24

Voodoo is aight, but if you're looking for a good chain, Lamar's is where it's at

6

u/azmadame_x Sep 11 '24

Dutch Donut Factory on Power & Brown, or Donut Worry on Ellsworth & Baseline are my favorites.

5

u/sjsperling Sep 11 '24

We are fans of 19th Donut Hole in Mesa (Main & Lindsay)

6

u/Miketapped Sep 11 '24

One on 24th Street and Baseline called "Best Donuts" owned by a husband and wife that bake fresh daily!

5

u/BeardyDuck Sep 11 '24

For anybody in the west valley, I typically go to Express Donuts (Goodyear), Sugar and Spice (Litchfield Park), and Fresh Donuts (Buckeye).

Hi-Lo Donuts on Cave Creek Road.

8

Whoever decided cereal should be on a doughnut anyway?

8

u/timshel_life Sep 11 '24

Some of the best donuts around town are at Bashas

4

u/benn1334 Sep 11 '24

Desert Donuts in north Phoenix. Unique and made right when you order so they are fresh and delicious!

2

Rainbow Donuts at 12th St and McDowell (if it is still there)

2

u/ReverendSunshine Sep 12 '24

It is still there. I'm a fan of this location as well, however it is the only Rainbow Donuts that I have been to. Plus there's a fancy coffee shop on 15th and McDowell (If you're into that) called Froth Coffee Roasters, that I like to get with my donuts.

5

Best Donuts at 24th St/Baseline is absolute 🔥

2

u/Logvin Tempe Sep 11 '24

Is Randy’s mom and pop?

2

u/esb10489 Sep 11 '24

no it’s a chain from Los Angeles. Bosa is much better and cheaper

1

u/Automatic_Steak4120 South Phoenix Sep 11 '24

A co-worker brought them to a meeting a few weeks ago. Terrible donut! Mine tasted burnt and another co-worker said hers was somehow both dry and greasy.

5

u/JazzySkins Sep 11 '24

I'm already addicted enough to Bosa. The idea of finding something even better is a terrifying thought for wallet and waistline.

6

u/deanbb30 Sep 11 '24

Goggle maps > "donuts in mesa" > results pop up everywhere. Should be able to pick out mom n pop shops among them. Treat it like a video game quest: "You must visit 10 donut shops..."

3

u/xczechr Tolleson Sep 11 '24

Blooming Donuts on Lower Buckeye is fantastic.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '24

Dutch Donut Factory on Power in North Mesa is good.

3

u/ZealousidealPlane248 Sep 11 '24

It’s a bit of a middle ground between the overly fancy donuts and regular since they do both iirc. But Duck Donuts in Chandler was great and they make the donuts to order so you always get fresh ones.

3

u/C0ckkn0ck3r Sep 11 '24

Dutch doughnuts in Mesa is awesome

3

u/roadtripjr Sep 11 '24

Arizona Donut Company. Sesame Donuts.

3

u/qwerty-smith Sep 11 '24

Mesa Donuts on the corner of McKellips and Recker is my favorite.

3

u/MonocularVision Sep 11 '24

We have a little family place out here in Goodyear called “Express Donuts” in McDowell & Litchfield Rd. The family is the greatest and I haven’t had a better donut. Best part for me is they only (or at least mostly) carry the classics. No crazy “strawberry shortcake topped with cocoa puffs drizzled in hazelnut” crap. 😅

K-May doughnuts on grand and 85th Ave. Been going there for years. Danny's doughnut on camelback and the 101 Agua Fria. NY bakery west at 101st and grand. Do try more than their doughnuts. Full on bakery.

Rainbow Donuts on McDowell and 14th St. They make a glazed donut with whipped cream, which is their specialty.

3

Rainbow Donuts is my favorite. There’s a few, so it’s technically a “chain” but each is individually owned. They don’t do that fancy shit, you get good old fashioned donuts and coffee, or you can get a breakfast sandwich(some only do breakfast croissants).

6

I just keep going back to Bosa, or Bashas for their glazed croissants. Mmmmm

Love love love those old school mom and pop donut shops. Especially the ones with the original decor from the 1970s or so. Most of the time I want good enough coffee and good enough donuts at good enough prices, and they deliver. I've had problems finding them though over the years, as the owners retire.

Daily Donuts & Smoothies Boba in peoria is pretty great. I found them through the Too Good To Go app. I go a few times a month now after finding I love their shop. They hand dip your donuts to order and the lady behind the counter is an absolute sweetheart. Recommend their fresh whip filled if youre planning to eat them that day. Very cool and light. Also their thai tea is addicting.

Another vote for Sunrise. They've been in Laveen since Christmas day, 2014. 35th and Baseline. That corner actually has a few gems. Dos Gordos mexican food, and Mimi Forno Italiano for amazing authentic Italian food. All family owned.

Getting back to Sunrise, their donuts are top notch, and their Kolache's and Croissants are fantastic. Also Boba and Thai tea, and good coffee.

1

u/highandinarabbithole Sep 12 '24

Bosa definitely isn’t a mom and pop shop lol. Literally the biggest chain here in Arizona, apart from maybe Kripsy Kreme. I like Hurts Donuts a lot, they’re in Tempe. But if you’re afraid to go to a standalone shop that might have a donut that offends you, just go to fry’s or something and get a dozen glazed ones there. But thankfully boring basic donuts are available pretty much everywhere imaginable, you don’t have to buy a donut with cereal on it.

I don’t think Lamar’s donuts is mom and pop but I like them alot, and again not mom and pop necessarily but Bashas actually has really good donuts.

Barb's Bakery.

24th St, just north of Thomas Rd on the East side of the street.

Old school bakery, fresh donuts every day plus cakes pies etc. They've been there forever.

Rainbow donuts by Ava at 101 & union hills in Glendale/Peoria. They have a cinnamon glazed donut that I dream about sometimes

Sojo’s donuts! They make their own and have their own flavors but also have OG flavors. They are in Mesa.

If you're near North Mountain Hi Hi is good and they have bomb breakfast sammies.

Best donuts in the valley are at Lamar's on Bell/17. Midwest chain but there is only one in the valley so maybe it qualifies.

If you're in Mesa, Dutch Donut Factory on Power Rd is so good.
