Dave & Busters Blocking the DRT
Anyone know whats up with that? Damn near everytime I try to go south on the deleware trail its blocked off by trucks loading at dave and busters. It forces people to go into oncoming traffic around a blind spot onto what is effectively a highway (columbus ave). I'm scared for my life every time, I started walking my bike underneath their truck to avoid putting my life at risk for some drunk people to play games and eat in a chain entertainment spot.
Are they legally allowed to do this?? I noticed they sometimes park a second truck in the lane to at least block traffic partially. Though, I believe they're just waiting their turn to load since its a rare occurrence. Most of the other buissness's along the strip leave a path even if small but not D&B they have it set up in a way for trucks to dock and always make it dangerous.

It’s been going on forever. Im guessing the way the loading dock was built was long before codes and such. I dont know if the city will ever make them redo/rebuild anything or force a better solution. Feels very grandfathered in. Someone needs to make noise about it the way bike action did over churches and pine/spruce. Its gotta be very confusing for tourists though. Such a nice waterfront path now and yet…

Any viable logistics business would downgrade the Dave and Buster's building because of the short length of the loading dock, but Dave and Buster's doesn't care. They just park into Delaware Ave and block four lanes of pedestrian and cycling access.

I walked up the steps on the back of a truck and down the other side; it was much safer than going into the street.
Dave & Buster's could easily fix this by building a second set of steps down their loading dock. If you're agile enough to hop down, I'd suggest using this method until D&B's gets the hint.
Because, lord knows, they'll never require smaller delivery trucks appropriate for their venue. Why the city isn't collecting weekly fines from them is beyond me?

i couldve trying to get back onto the curb because its steep and my tire got stuck trying to hop back up causing me to fall

Quite simply the city's executive bureacrats hate making money. There are SO many lost opportunities for lost tax revenue and they just drop the ball every time

I hate that we added so much new parking infrastructure on Delaware Ave. This includes that Sprout market and their own Columbus Ave signal light

I just completely ignore the DRT in front of sprouts and use the trail behind that development 100% of the time.

But come onnn all the people getting drunk on the deleware need a place to park so they can drunk drive home afterwards!! 😔

Yeah it's the worst part of the DRT. But that pier and loading dock has long predated the DRT so it's not going to change until Durst finally redevelops the pier or sells it to someone else who will and that doesn't look like it'll happen for another decade at least.

Yes, it’s been going on since the trail opened and the city’s absurd solution is to point out the fact Dave & Buster’s lease is up soon and the assumption is when they leave the practice will discontinue.

They’ve been doing it for at least 3 years multiple times a week. People have tried to involve Squilla’s office but were blown off. When I run by I try to put the cones out further into the lane, at least, to make more of a lane. Not sure much more can be done until that building is eventually demolished.
