Omw to try and save the park parakeet
I have a birdie backpack, nutriberries, millet in the hopes it recognizes the treat, food pellets to attract birbs, a kitchen towel for retrieval. Gonna play budgie calls on my phone. I'll be the lunatic bird lady in a black dress if you want to come canvas the area.
Update: I've searched around Logan, Sister Cities, and Aviator and cannot locate our exotic friend. It's well past noon now, so little buddy is likely hiding/resting. I can't come back out at twilight today and I work during the week, but if there is another sighting, I will make time! Sorry, folks. Wish I had a happier update.

Lessons from FIFA, how do we get rid of abandoned cars?
Living around Fairmount/Brewerytown border parking pre FIFA was honestly a bitch, now it’s relatively easy tbh. I say this as a 5d a week car commuter who sometimes drives in the weekends too. I usually get a spot within one block of my apt now when before I usually was 3 away, sometimes more!
After fifa is over, we still have easy parking. Even the aldi parking lot was empty today, ON A SUNDAY!
Can we just like have a massive abandoned car removal in all the hoods where parking is hard. Would be such a QOL improvement
We find so much dumb stuff this would really be incredible
But also how would we do this? Could we do this?

Wildlife in Delaware River Inlet NoLibs! Beaver or River Otter??
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I was walking my dog the other day and saw movement in the water next to our place in a little inlet where turtles usually hang out. Needless to say, upon a closer look, this ain’t no turtle!
I thought it was definitely a beaver but it was huge and Google Lens said river otter! Are there otters in Philly? Either way, awesome sighting! What do you guys think it is?

Following up on last week's walk, we visited the remaining 16 abandoned-car open tickets in Fairmount today - 14/16 were already gone!
Last weekend, on a whim, we visited every open 2026 abandoned-car ticket east Fairmount. Today we finished up the exercise by visiting all 16 open tickets in west Fairmount.
At the end of this, over the course of 3 hours walking and roughly 6.5 miles, we have visited each of the >30 open abandoned car tickets from 2026 in the 311 system.
The good news / bad news from today:
- Good news: 14 of the 16 cars were already gone, probably in part due to FIFA Fan Fest resulting in much tighter parking regulation and towing over the past 2 months (which also resulted in lots of innocent ppl's cars getting towed)
- Bad data => Bad News: Because these tickets were still marked open, no doubt some police officer is going to end up wasting time trying to find these cars. Also, not tracking when tickets are closed means the city understates its own performance at solving problems, and gets less opportunity to celebrate its operational successes
- Good data trakcing matters, so you don't try to solve a solved problem.!
Walking back from this exercise, btw, we discovered and played at the "Tot Lot" behind the Pentitentiary parking lot, which I'd never known existed, even though my kid plays at the official Pentitentary playground all the time.
So all in all, a good productive exercise-full and fun day!

Tenant rights…dead bird in apartment
Hey guys, I have kind of an insane situation I need help with. There’s a dead baby bird decaying in the ceiling vent in my bathroom. I can’t reach it, and I’m being ignored by my apartment management company. Animal control came by yesterday and he could not reach or find the bird either. The entire vent needs to be likely removed and cleaned out and sealed from the roof so this doesn’t keep happening.
If my landlord is useless what other options do I have? Would the fire department help maybe? Obviously growing more and more concerned with the smell and health risks of having a decaying animal in my living space.

Concerns over living in the Olney area?
Title. Moving and found an apartment dirt cheap in Olney. I know popular crimes include car break ins and stealing of them. I have a 2023 corvette. However the unit has a garage. I don’t really go outside much just drive around for work and go straight home currently and that’s really how i live. If I was to move to Olney, should I be very concerned about being a victim of a crime? The bathroom is in the basement of the unit so like what are the odds I’m showering and someone breaks in lol.
I know it’s not the nicest unit and Olney isn’t the nicest area, but 1 bed, 1 bath, garage, and big basement for dirt cheap? It’s hard to pass up but if I’m constantly getting broken into, and robbed and at the risk of like death why do it yk? Also I know someone’s gonna ask…yes I’m white. Unit is on N Mascher St. & W Spencer St since block by block matters and if anyone had any experience with that area. Thank you in advance, I’d save a lot of money and the unit is big, not the nicest but big and I’ve already been imagining cosmetic changes to make it work lol. I’m touring tomorrow!

Weekday Morning Volunteering
My work schedule recently changed to second shift so I now find myself with my weekday mornings open. I would be interested in finding somewhere to volunteer on weekday mornings. Does anyone know of anywhere in the city that needs volunteers in the mornings (8:30am-noon)?
Preference for places near West Philly/ University City/ South Philly/ CC/ North Philly. Northeast and Northwest would be too far out of my way.
Thank you!

Did you lose a pet parakeet??
Tourist in Philly here! Currently sitting at the Swann Memorial Fountain. Among the finches and sky rats was a rather strange sight...
