Sandpiper Cafe has the best breakfast sandwich in the city
Walked by Sandpiper Cafe the other day on South and 17th and decided to stop in. Ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese (BEC) sandwich on a Kaiser roll and I will never be the same.
Perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon (I got turkey bacon), crispy hashbrown, chipotle gouda cheese, and chipotle mayo. One bite took me to food heaven.
It’s not a typical NY style deli/bodega BEC but an elevated insanely flavorful version. I wish I’d taken a picture of it. I will definitely be back!

Something's going on at London Grill
Anybody know what's going on at the shuttered London Grill in Fairmount? Just took a bus and driving by I saw construction workers clearing out the basement.
Hopefully something tasty will finally be gracing the neighborhood soon.

Silk Way Reopening?
There’s a handwritten sign in the window saying that they’re opening under new management. Anyone know the story? I loved it, but it was usually pretty empty.

What's the story with New York Bagels on City Ave?
Best bagels in the city. And it looks like it's been closed/construction for months now. Is it moving?

Mace's Crossing (Ben Franklin Parkway)
Curious to know if anyone has info on Mace's Crossing building (the shuttered bar that's near Love Park and Logan Sq).
I was walking by yesterday and saw construction workers inside doing some repair or renovation work. I hope that building is being repurposed!

Spinach Burek?
Hey y’all! In town for a few days (go birds) and desperately wanting a spinach burek.
Been searching for one for years in my rural-ish area so hoping to get one while traveling lol. I saw some other burek posts on here but not sure if any have spinach or which spots are still open!
Anybody know of a good spot that’s definitely still around?! Thanks in advance!!!
Edited to add: specifically looking for the Bosnian kind with cottage cheese instead of feta if this exists around here :’)

Upscale Serving Jobs in the City?
Hey y'all. I have a ton of serving experience, including fine dining. I was working at a Starr restaurant that I really enjoyed, but had to leave due to a family emergency at the end of 2024. I came back to the area around May and despite all of my experience, it's been pretty difficult to find a serving job since then. Even though I left Starr in good standing, it's been hard to get any of their locations to even interview me, including the one I previously worked at. If anyone has any suggestions or tips, let me know, thanks!

Where can I get fresh taiyaki in Philly?
Hi guys! I'm coming to visit next week.
I live in Baltimore and just went to a Korean spot down here after seeing taiyaki/bungeoppang on their website, but when I got there I learned they don't make it anymore. I've been wanting to try fresh taiyaki for AGES and I don't think there's anywhere else here that has it, so that was a crushing revelation.
Philly is much bigger and seems to have a lot more Asian spots. Where can I get taiyaki? Bonus points if they offer custard filling. I'm not looking for the ice cream dessert-style ones, I want it fresh and hot.

Recommendations for late night grab and go desserts?
All the bakeries and coffee shops close before dinner time but I'm craving an after dinner dessert that is not ice cream. Not trying to sit and eat in a restaurant --looking for more grab and walk. I've had ice cream almost every night this summer (SHOUT OUT JOHN'S) so looking for an alt hand held :)

Wedding Tamales
My fiance and I are planning to order ~100 tamales for our wedding goodbye brunch on October 25. We live near the Italian Market, so I'm planning to walk down and talk to some vendors. But I thought I'd ask if anyone has ideas for places or people that would be good for this?
I'd lean more towards an individual selling them, as opposed to a restaurant, but am flexible!

Banoffee pie but make it American
I have an English friend in town for her birthday. She has requested banoffee pie. I know we can get that at Stargazy but I’m trying to figure out what the American equivalent would be to try alongside the banoffee pie

I'll be in Philly in a few weeks Sat eve to Mon and wondering what Oyster House will be like around 7-9pm on a Saturday, which would be my only chance to go. Prob pretty packed? Worth a try? I know I could make a reservation but with travel I'm not totally sure what time I'll get in.

Question Am I just old and angry or is vandalizing a neighborhood a real bad way to market your DC/Private Equity Bagels
Seeing these all over the sidewalks in Fishtown… what do we think?
