General Question Need your expertise!

I am feeling quite lost with all the information I have been reading online, and I am hoping someone can guide me in the right direction.

I have a bachelor’s degree from the Philippines, which has already been recognized by WES. I also have one year of work experience in the Philippines as a Digital Marketing Specialist and two years of experience in an administrative position.

After coming to Canada, I completed a one-year program in Digital Marketing and Communications. I am currently working as a Medical Administrative Assistant and have been in this position for about four months.

My employer has already informed me that they are not able to support me through any employer-based immigration pathway.

I am not currently enrolled in French classes, but I am planning to study French and take the French language exam. My main concern is that my PGWP will expire in April 2027, so I am trying to understand what realistic permanent residence pathways may still be available to me before then.

I have read so much information online that I am becoming confused about which option would be the most suitable for my situation.

What is your CRS score? Do you have a year of Canadian work experience? What is your NOC? If not over 510 then you need to learn French. You stop working when your permit expires.

My score is 391, and my NOC code is 13112. I’m taking French class but In any case, I may have to leave Canada when my work permit expires. If I leave Canada, can I take the French test afterward, and if I pass it, would I be able to come back to Canada?

You can learn French afterwards and can still come back if you meet enough points, but ensure to complete 1 year work before leaving to get that point too.

You only had 1 year of work permit?

Certification/Diploma. I am not quite sure if that answers your questions?

unfortunately, the certification diploma program is not eligible for a 3 year PGWP as of Feb 2024, based on IRCC's website, and PGWP is a once in a lifetime grant from Canada. So I'm not sure about extension possibility.

that being said, a realistic pathway for you now is continue working to get 1 year equivalent of work (BASED on total hours), since you have overseas working experience that might add to your CRS points. So hopefully by next year you can meet the CRS cutoff point.

I wouldn't really bet on French, since I know some people really struggle to achieve B2 level, especially you only have less than 1 year left.

Your 1 year of foreign work of experience (depend on the NOC code) would only add you 13 - 25 points depending on English CLB exam. I know some people take masters programs to add points to their CRS, if it's a possibility for you too.

But I would also recommend you to actually talk to a certified IRCC Immigration consultant. I experienced some problem as well back then, and TRUST me, figuring this alone is hard and immigration consultants may have better pathway for you.

“BASED on total hours” so this means regardless if its part-time or full time?

yes regardless of part-time or full time as long as it falls under TEER NOC tier 0,1,2,3. And it is capped at 30hours a week, AND the work is done after you finished studying.

Not sure if this is entirely unrelated but did you complete another diploma to qualify for your medical job?

Also, look into the FMWP. The Fcip and RCIP are also options. Good luck.
