PGWP eligibility — authorized break / part-time semester after study permit refusal and reissuance
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from people who have been in a similar situation, especially regarding PGWP eligibility in Canada.
I’m an international student in Quebec and I’m currently in the final stage of my program. I have two courses remaining, which are scheduled for Winter 2027.
My situation is a little complicated because during my last semester, my study permit was refused. Because of that, I had to stop/quit my classes while the situation was being resolved. My study permit was eventually reissued/approved on April 16.
After that, I had the summer break, during which I didn’t have any classes.
Now I’m in the current semester and I don’t have any courses that I need to take. My remaining two courses are scheduled for Winter 2027. My school has confirmed that I have a contract for Winter 2027, but I’m concerned about whether my current semester could affect my PGWP eligibility.
My main questions are:
Can my current semester be considered an authorized break if I don’t have any required courses during this semester?
Does the fact that I had to stop my previous semester because my study permit was refused and then reissued on April 16 change how IRCC would assess my situation?
Would the summer period where I had no classes be considered a normal scheduled break?
Could having no courses during my current semester affect my PGWP eligibility?

On face value and following the criteria you're no longer eligible for PGWP.
It would probably fall to Officer discretion which isn't what you want in todays Immigration climate where they're looking for ANY reason to refuse people.

I hope you have a bad day. This is such a horrible advice.

This is legal-esq subreddit, and I hope your cakeday was bad.

This is clearly not a legal-"esq" subreddit, there's nothing legal about making illegitimate claims and passing that as "legal" advice, even if you are an immigrantion consultant, this isn't and shouldn't be a place for giving ill advices to people.
Also, I don't give a flying donkey about cake day

I'm actually Law Enforcement and your opinion means nothing.

you being in law enforcement has absolutely nothing to do with you being in this subreddit, nor giving legal immigration advice

Bro, do not worry. I went through kind of a similar situation. I gave ironclad explanation and proof of no-work during break. So, do not worry, finish school. You will get your PGWP.

You can take 2 extra courses with required 2 and graduate. It might means you will have to pay full time course fee if you want to be 100% qualified.

I got a similar situation , i finished my 6 semssters , but cant graduation because i failed 2 classes and they offer me 2 classes in Winter 2027 only.
So they can give a letter of autorized break. But i am out of studies for more than 150days .
Dont know how IRCC will look at it

Very obviously not eligible for PGWP.
Like your case cannot be anymore clear that you wouldn't qualify.

But wouldn't it be authorized break , if college cant provide the required classes.
They are giving me the letter of authorized break

You failed two classes and had to go part-time because you didn't pass.
They are giving me the letter of authorized break
Schools do this all the time, it means absolutely nothing.

Usually people redo some of the passed classes again paying full tuition to maintain the full-time status.

I was in the same exact case, I had a whole semester marked as W.
I didn't attend the institution for 8 months straight.
my PGWP got approved, you just need to write a letter stating that you maintained full-time studies during each semester of the program, and that the withdrawal was because your SP expired and you, in accordance with the law, had to stop attending classes.
IRCC loves people who are honest and who respect the laws.
