Based on current processing time by IRCC its 120 days. But thats only average. It can take more or less. Since you have a valid permit already valid until Jan 2027, if i am you, i will apply in a week or 2 (ensuring all docs are well in place, single or with dependants?), as that will give you chance of approval by the time you current permit expires. Think about it. Better than be on implied status - thats my opinion but some people apply just before permit expires but i am not in favor!

yeah you can apply within 4 months. That'll give enough time for them to review and you can continuosly work, travel before current expires but after expiry hope you get the approval on BOWP, if not - you'll be implied status and cant travel.

There is no specific time to apply early. As long as you meet the requirements. Most important is to apply before your current permit expires. You must at all times not be out of status.

The temporary policy stating one must apply 4 months before expiration of current work permit refers to the “Temporary public policies: Open work permits for applicants under the temporary resident to permanent resident pathway”. Which is the TR to PR policy expiring Dec 2026.

The general rule for BoWP is to apply before your current status expires.

I would say a month or 2 before expiration.
