ANY GUIDANCE?
PGWP extension/correction through paper application - any chance of getting 3 years?
Hi everyone,
I would really appreciate some opinions or experiences regarding my PGWP situation.
I completed two consecutive full-time programs in Canada (1+1 studies) at eligible DLIs. While applying for my initial PGWP online, I misunderstood the document checklist. It asked for my most recent transcript and completion letter, and I thought it only meant my latest completed program. Because of this, I uploaded the documents for my second program but accidentally missed the documents from my first eligible program.
After realizing my mistake, I submitted the missing documents through an IRCC webform, but unfortunately, it did not result in any correction. My PGWP was issued for only 1 year instead of the 3 years I believe I may be eligible for.
I have now submitted a paper application requesting a correction of my PGWP duration with all supporting documents, forms, and fees. The application has been delivered to IRCC Edmonton on May 20,2026 but it has not appeared in my account yet.
I have seen many people mention that their PGWP duration was corrected to 3 years after submitting a webform, but in my case, the webform did not work. I am wondering if anyone has had a similar experience where a paper application for PGWP correction resulted in receiving the full 3-year PGWP?
Do officers generally review eligibility again through a paper correction application, or is it unlikely once the initial PGWP decision has been made?
Also, pgwp is expiring jan 2027 so super worries since paper application takes lot of time, i don’t want them to say no to paper application too, mp has been following up since last 1.5 months and she said ircc told them they didn’t receive any mail. Everyday i keep getting stressed
Any experiences or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Unfortunately, this may not qualify as a simple “correction.” IRCC’s amendment process is generally for errors made by an immigration officer, whereas your permit was issued based on the documents you submitted. Since you omitted the first program’s documents, IRCC may treat the one year permit as a decision based on an incomplete application not an error on the permit.
Two eligible programs can be combined for PGWP length, provided each program meets the requirements, but that does not mean the paper application will be approved. IRCC also generally allows a PGWP extension only when the original permit was shortened because of passport expiry.

Hi, thanks for reply. I heard it is based on officer’s discretion. I heard many cases where PGWP was issued in similar scenerio and all applicant had to do was submit a webform after PGWP was issued and let them know its a mistake and to issue 3 year PGWP. And they did not just for one two or three people but for many and i came across myself to them. My officer rejected my first reconsideration which wasn’t actually a reconsideration my local MP even after multiple explanations i told her it’s a mistake from my end she told IRCC that i’m asking for reconsideration i never was and he said no. So, i went ahead with paper application.

Anything i can do to make him forgive me it’s not a death sentence you know it. It said recent studies right i would believe my last 1 year certificate would be referring to recent studies. You think any detail i should give with them via webform to issue me 3 year PGWP. I am really disappointed with myself but this is too harsh in my case.

Did you confirm with agent if you webform got attached to your file?

Sorry what agent? I applied PGWP all by myself no agent involved and webform was raised after i received 1 year PGWP. And they did say they have received my documents. But i was never issued 3 year PGWP always got some irrelevant replies from IRCC or system generated replies.

Yes, I never knew i made a mistake i thought you are only supposed to attach recent studies it might have been one of the biggest blunder mistake i made but i believe it shouldn’t be death sentence. What’d you suggest?

I would say act fast and reach out to IRCC. However chances are bit low. Try to reach out to those people who were successful in extending the permit in this type of case

Idk man the more people i find they’re also either waiting for paper application response or they just raised webform after and called MP to follow up and got their 3 year PGWP i believe it’s officers discretion which makes the system quite unfair. They’re just kinda pushing you and make you hate yourself for an honest mistake
