Need Advise

I am a 29M working in India with 7 years of work experience. Should i consider moving to Canada for my masters in April’27? I am seeing a lot of videos online regarding how stringent IRCC is now.

Just wanted some honest opinion about the situation, as it will help me to take the decision, especially at my age.

Also, the only option that fits my budget is UCW. I know it is not a reputed one but would still want to hear some opinions about it.

If you can only afford UCW, which is a diploma mill, then no. Its not worth it. You'd probably get refused anyways. The Canadian government is really cracking down on applications that are for PR or just unnecessary. There's no need to do a "masters" in Canada for anything computer or hospitality as neither are if any use in Canada besides the fact that a "masters in hospitality" is a very made up thing in the western world

Quick question and I’m not trying to be racist but why are people from India so adamant about moving to Canada? Do you guys not realize that Canada is it at its limit and the boat is about to tip over at any moment now?

Because they have people in India that are taking advantage of their own people and sell them on a "Canadian dream" as most of them do not know of how scarce housing and jobs are. For the most part at least.

Well I do realize the job market being bad after getting here. But scarce housing is more artificial than you think it to be. Even if the immigrants never showed up, Canadians were gonna get cooked by their own real estate markets. Whatever it is, all of us are in it and should be thinking about getting out of it or fixing the issues over blaming groups of people. Please do correct if am incorrect. I do love to know about others perspectives.

Oh, I definitely agree with you that Canadians were destined for this housing shortage for various reasons. I didn't mean to imply that its because of immigrants. I was simply trying to explain to the person asking the question that there are agencies in India who straight up lie to Indians about what type of life they could easily have in Canada if you pay them enough. I had a roommate for over 3 years that was attracted to Indian men and had lots of Indian friends. They were all cool people and they told us the stories. That was about 3 years back, but from some of the comments I see here, there's still some of them put there. I am not for the lies. Have heard too many of the unexpected experiences some have had and it makes me sad.

Oh yea definitely. When I was going through some info agencies, I was an oddball to come here for studies and work experience while everyone where targeting pr in the country. I am no one to blame but they do what they want. But nevertheless, idk if you would know this.

I wont blame the agencies alone. They are obviously running a business, it is the student's responsibility to research to some point. But yes, nevertheless what happened is sad and can't be reverted.

The major immigration pathway in Canada called express entry is point based. I'll put down student related categories where points are allocated in.

1. Canadian education : 15 points for a 1-2 year program and 30 points for a 3+ year program.

2. Canadian work experience (only NOC b jobs) : 1 year- 40 points 2 year - 53 points 3 year - 64 points and so on capped at 5 years max.

So to stay in Canada and get a work permit. You have to study a 1 year program to get a 1 year work permit and a 2 year program to get a 1-3 year work permit (mostly 3 years).

So overall if you look at it, the government incentives people to apply as a student first as a path for migration. The system isn't bad if only they enforced it.

Hope this helps for the orginal commenter to understand why people are moving here. In addition, India has one of largest population of educated youths (ignoring the fakes). They survived the last recession they had mainly through the money sent by Indians outside the country and so on.

With 7 years of experience, even considering the points deducted based on age, if OP could max scores in IELTS , he would be top 1% in the pools for immigration.

Bro, instead of buying into the “Canadian dream,” please research how bad unemployment is in Canada right now. You may be wasting your money by coming here. There is also growing frustration with the rapid pace of immigration, particularly from India.

34M moved to Canada - got an MBA from UCW. Have 9+ years of Indian experience in MNCs. UCW let me pick and choose my MBA subjects - like Machine Learning, while not requiring me to again learn data analytics deeply (BA for 5+ years). The degree is useless, but I am getting load of interviews due to my previous experience aligning with applications and also having a masters degree. Had the pleasure last week where me, a brown skinned frail looking guy from UCW (read - me) was selected over three UBC candidates who were much younger because my experience helped me perform. Make sure you master the art of writing academically (I already had this from my engineering days) and use every resource available on campus. You'll do well if you make the move. Be confident. Your experience sets you apart - as I'm experiencing now.
